“Great architecture and views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2014

We did not stay at this lovely hotel but went there to look around as day visitors and then went back the same evening for dinner at "Fish Eagle Restaurant". The architecture is beautiful - Cape Dutch style - apparently built as a private home in 1941 (a 10 bedroom beach cottage) and later converted into a Hotel - a really grand looking hotel. We spoilt ourselves to a very tasty meal of Lamb Shank served with mash and vegetables. My husband had a side salad instead of the mash, the meal was delicious. My photos of the meal did not do it justice as the night time pictures never come out right. The staff were great and we tipped the 2 chefs involved in the cooking - they came out to thank us personally. The young manageress was delightful and very thoughtful - nothing was too much trouble for her. We had a long chat to her (they were not very busy on that evening). During the day, the view from the restaurant is lovely - one can see the estuary and the sea in the distance. At night, the lights from the chandeliers reflected in the large glass windows. Overall the place and the food was very impressive. We will go there again!

The hotel is set in a beautiful location overlooking an estuary and a short walk to a beautiful beach. it is also surrounded by lovely flora and fauna. The room was spacious, clean and basic. There are so many nicely thought about activities on site. we found a games room with pool tables, darts , table tennis etc all for free. The location of the hotel is very close to Wild Coast Sun.

Breakfast was delicious. Staff were all very friendly. The only problem that i found was that most of the tv channels were not functional and it seemed to be a satellite problem.

I would definitely return as this hotel is all about location, location, location...

We enjoyed our Valentines dinner at the Fish Eagle. The fact that we could have drinks and not worry about driving home was relaxing and the music was spectacular. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The Valentines package was value for money. I will recommend the Estuary to anyone that wants a quiet getaway from the busy city life.

Just back from scouting a new venue for one of our festivals and had a light meal at The Estuary Hotel - what a delight it was! We had a gorgeous Smoked Salmon and Avo salad for lunch, fresh crisp greens, ripe avocado, scrum dressing - most delicious! I took the opportunity to have a look around and was surprised at the beautiful spa (fresh smells of lemon verbena), stunning little chapel and great conference facilities. The setting has to be one of the nicest on the KZN South Coast and the hospitality of both staff and owners was most welcoming. I highly recommend this venue and look forward to trying out more of what the new chef has to offer on their evening dining menu.

My Fiance surprised me with a Valentines weekend away at the Stunning Estuary and Spa Hotel.
We booked in on the valentines special, which was just what I needed as I am getting married in a week and needed this little pre wedding get away to calm the nerves.

We were warmly greeted by friendly reception staff member, Sinazo, who checked us into the sea facing block - Breath taking views!!
I was so excited for the Valentines dinner which was unbelievable and to add to this memorable experience there was a live band that had everyone on their feet dancing the night away.

I would just like to add that we had a lovely laze around the estuary's pool with its magnificent view. Michael our waitron was fantastic and never let out drinks run empty.

Included in our Valentines package was a Spa treatment ( every girls dream!!) we had the most amazing couples massage, which was a first for my fiance!!!!!

Once again I would like to thank everyone at the Estuary Hotel for making us feel so welcome, and fulfilling my weekend away with such beautiful memories.

A MUST for anyone wanting to experience the true beauty that the South Coast has to offer.

Room Tip: DEFINITELY sea view room. Beautiful colonial hotel.

This hotel was utterly disappointing in terms of staff, food, room service and the spa!!! Firstly, my husband and I had visited The Estuary Hotel and Spa for the Valentines weekend. The Fish Eagle Restaurants menu was a pathetic set menu of ONLY two choices - beef fillet or quail. SERIOUSLY!!!! Not everyone eats either so a better, more appealing menu should have been offered. We chose to have dinner in our room and so ordered room service. Big mistake!!! The man who answered the room service line was rude and told me he is too busy to take our order-call later! Then when I finally got to speak to someone who could help me, she told me our food would be delivered to us in 20 minutes. Food arrived an hour and half later at 21:15!!! We ordered chicken - prawn curry, mushroom soup and pasta al funghi. ALL three were disgustingly AWFUL!!! The prawns were old and uncleaned, the overall curry tasted vile and revolting. The mushroom soup was overly thick and curdled and the pasta had absolutely no taste at all-just boiled with mushrooms thrown over. Food not even worthy to feed a dog is my opinion!!! We sent it back after just one bite. The restaurant manager offered no apologies. Me being a heavily pregnant women-went to bed without any dinner. Expecting breakfast to be a whole lot better the next morning, was actually another sore disappointment. It was so awful I actually threw up an hour later. The scrambled eggs were a funny yellow-greenish colour, mushrooms overcooked, sausages undercooked, baked beans just thrown into the baine marie, croissants over done and burnt. As for the Spa- what a joke of a Spa. The Spa does not even have a reception desk. It lacks in ambience. The therapists do not look very well trained. Treatment rooms totally standard and instead of the aromas of pot pouri and scented candles, the spa smelt of Sunlight green bar soap. My husband had a facial which he says was extremely disappointing as they had not even steamed his face. What kind of facial is that? My massage was mediocre and not worth the money spent. Most shocking of all is the lack of privacy to the hotel guest, and I say this because the housekeeping manager entered our room whilst we were inside, without first knocking to check if we were in fact "in"...let herself in using her key and went into our bathroom. This is appalling as she had no right to do so. The rooms do not have safes so the safety of personal belongings is at risk. This sure was one Valentines day we would not forget. Estuary Hotel management - you need to better your services. Upgrade to quality please!!!
Highly disappointed guest.

Room Tip: Seaview facing

Very comfortable and spacious rooms with a lovely patio to sit and enjoy a cold beer with this awesome sea view, after being at the beach not far away! Excellent service in dining room, food good! Chocolates in evening a nice surprise! Very special setting and ambience!

Room Tip: Rooms with view onto sea are lovely! The higher the better the view!
