“Proud to be British!!!”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

Have just returned from our family holiday at the Royal Garden, Suites or hotel - apparently both!! I'm not going to share our room experience as we didn't let it spoil our holiday. Don't get me wrong, the majority of this hotel is stunning, very clean and well maintained, however, the downside was quite obvious as we weren't German!!! The staff themselves told us that we came 3rd in the order of importance after the Germans and Russians??? So they don't want our money or our sense of humour??? I have to say that the Germans we encountered at the hotel and anywhere were just plain and simply rude. The staff automatically address you in German and then struggle when they discover you're English??? Even the kids club starts in German!!! The hotel is a in the middle of nowhere, you can't really walk anywhere other than to the shopping area which you need to prepared to be pestered although a lot of the time the pestering was turned into fun with the locals. Probably the worst aspect for us was the daily 5 am wake up call when the locals are called to prayer. We did have a great time and met some great British people (eventually) but would I recommend this hotel......no.

Room Tip: Ensure you request a room in the main block of the hotel

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Garden for 1 week, booked through Thomas Cook. It was our first stay at an All inclusive hotel and I have mixed views.

Firstly, as others have noted, you should be aware that this hotel is geared up largely for the German market. In fact whenever we were spoken to by Staff it was in German. The entertainment was in German, the food was typically German including Bratwurst, frankfurters and Schnitzel and obviously the overwhelming majority of guests were German. I am not German, I do not speak German and if I wanted to go on holiday to be surrounded by everyone and everything German I would have gone to you've guessed it, Germany.

Room. Our room was in the main building and even though we booked a family suite (supposedly with 3 beds) we were given a room with 2 single beds. When I complained we were told that all rooms in the main building were the same. When I showed the receptionist a photo from their own website showing a room with a double bed AND a single bed, I was told that they were in the new 5 star select building. So be aware that that the room photos online are not in the 4 star hotel building. Also we never actually managed to get the room to a comfortable temperature. Every night I woke up freezing cold due to the Aircon, turned it off and then woke up a little later sweating. Also every morning I had a terribly sore throat.

Staff. Very helpful and friendly. The maid was excellent and provided little touches like arranging the towels on the bed as swans etc. Nice.

Food. Plentiful and then some. Breakfast was fresh omelettes, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, lots of cheese, salads, cereals and yoghurts. Lunch and Dinner were quite similar and included several different hot meal choices as well as cheese, salad, breads and lots and lots of different desserts. We were amazed at the greed of some people but it made us chuckle as well. We certainly never went hungry.

Pool area. There are several pools, but only 2 in the main section. These were well used and a welcome relief from the blistering heat. Clean water, loungers and staff patrolled regularly clearing away empty mugs and plates etc.

Bars. There are several bars where you can get your free soft drinks, local beer or a selection of spirits. Service was friendly and quick. Areas clean.

Snacks. If 3 meals are not enough for you, then head to the pool bar where they serve up cakes, biscuits, donuts and pancakes between lunchtime and dinner. Most of these failed to live up to the standards of the restaurant however.

Beach. A short walk from the hotel is the beach and the Med. The sand is very gritty (if you know what I mean) but still fine. The sea was lovely and warm (more so than the pools) and there were an abundance of loungers.

We also went on an excursion organised through the Thomas Cook rep to Manavgat for a river cruise, visit to a market and the waterfall. It cost around £30 each. Save your money. Although the tour guide was excellent, very honest with good English, the actual trip was largely designed to get more money from your pocket. The river cruise stops near to the sea at which point you are invited to walk and have a paddle. Just so happens that you have to walk past several stalls selling various wares to get there. The indoor market which sells supposedly top notch clothing for fixed prices offers items you would expect to get on any crappy market in the UK but for a higher cost. The waterfall at Manavgat took my breath away. Not because of its awe inspiring beauty, but because of all the stalls selling you the same old tatt that you will have seen dozens of times already. The waterfall itself is nothing much. The fall drops no more than 8 to 10 feet and runs the width of a normal sized river. The best viewpoints are all taken by restaurants. At least the outdoor market was entertaining. Dozens of stalls, but unfortunately all selling pretty much the same thing. Fake Clothing, Fake Perfumes, Fake Leather goods and the odd food stall. Give even so much as a glance at a stall and the owner will be over like a shot. "Yes Please.... Good Price"

All in all an OK holiday. I am sure that the Turkish people are lovely but unfortunately I only really saw those selling crap and lots of Germans, so I'll never know.

we booked this through thomas cook 2 adults 2 kids for 13 night which said royal garden suites but there site shows picture of the royal garden. will try and clear this up for you the ground of this hotel contains 3/4 hotels
royal garden,, royal garden suites ,,,royal garden beach the royal garden is really the only genuine 4 star hotel on the ground we stopped in the suites which is tired and dated looks like it was built in 60s /70s and nothing been changed since then. we booked through thomas cook web site which is obviously deceiving people showing all fancy pictures of of the royal garden all nice and fancy when you are not booking that hotel you are booking royal garden suites. and if you are in the suites you can not use the fancy restaurants in the royal garden
.the rooms are large in the suites with small balcony and are very worn and dated looking.
they are cleaned daily fresh towels etc cleaners do a good job
it said on thomas cook web site too minibar in room there is a bottle of water in it thats it!!
outside there are plenty of pools nice few little ones for youngsters plenty of loungers
the all inclusive is pretty poor you only get VODKA RAKI GIN no other spirits available no cocktails unless you want to pay for them 6 euros plus
the food is edible with not much variety this is in suites do not know about gardens could not go in!! on 2/3 meat dishes a night and very repetitive salad side of thing is not too bad
the breakfast is dismill if u like eggs your onto a winner boiled fried scrambled and german sausages thats your lot oh and cardboard cereal,
and there is no ice cream for little ones unless you buy from shop
and no real snacks between meal times mainly just flat bread and nothing after 9pm
you can use too 2 alacarte (supposedly) restaurants Chinese and Turkish (suites hotel) all the food is brought down in big trays and just warmed up they start you off both restaurants with a cold starter when you get there they are all out on table not covered or anything it starts at 7 the meal we got there at 6.40 and they were all out on table so god knows how long they were out there some people did not come down till 8 so been on table for well over an hour with all sorts landing on them no good !
then there was about 30 people in each restaurant when we went in and they only had 1 person in each one serving everyone food and drink so as you can service was terrible
the chinise food was not that bad taste wise
the greek was awful greasy really poor
the entertainment is dis-mill too all done in house the kids disco is good for little one but the rest is very poor one bloke seems to do it all there in the morning round the pool comparing geeing people nice fella! but singing and his magic show have some thing to be desired by
we were on the road side of hotel very quite road. but not too far from a mosque with plenty of whaling coming out all hours of day/morning
if you are a light sleeper there is a club not too far from hotel and it is banging if you are not with any kids could be a great place to go but unfortunately i did and kept waking up with boom boom
need less to say i will not be coming back to this hotel if you are booking this hotel make sure you book royal garden part of hotel not suites or beech it might be a total different holiday if you book in there
and my advice dont book it with thomas crook it!!!
may i thank the bar lady who tried to nick our camera!!

Room Tip: book in royal garden if possible dont bother with royal garden suites or royal garden beach

We arrived on 6th August and stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel. We have 2 children aged 6 and 3 and overall the swimming pool and entertainment team are what makes this hotel. Firstly to start with the negatives. We had to wait over 1 hour to check in when we arrived. Kids were very tired and hungry but no food was available for them. Most of the guests are either German, Russian or Turkish. English is not commonly spoken so most of the staff don't really understand requests being made. The restuarant is ok but the food after a while is repetitive and the service is slow so be prepared to have your plates with your main dinner still on the table when eating dessert. It seems very strange that the new part of the hotel was updated but does not accommodate for families of 4 or more. We therefore had to stay in the old part of the hotel Royal Garden as opposed to Royal Select. The rooms really need modernising and are dated but are acceptable once you get used to the standard. Policy is ridiculous with regards to towels. You have to pay €1 for each time you want to change your swimming towel so be prepared for this. Aqua park slides are only open from 10-12 and 3-5 which is ok but would be more fun if they were open for longer. The beach is not fantastic with hard stones there are better beaches within a bus ride if beach is the main attraction but there are water sports on site. As an all inclusive guest drinks only available up to midnight but the only alcohol included is wine, beer, vodka and gin which was ok for us but be prepared to pay for cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. There is a games room but you have to pay for everything if you want to play games.
On the plus side the entertainment team were fantastic and made the evenings really enjoyable involving the audience and the children. The mini club is also very good and involves the children in all sorts of activities including t-shirt painting and mini olympics. The pool is great for children and adults. There are 4 swimming pools for the kids and also 2 main adult pools all within close distance from each other. The spa facility is also very good. Overall it was a good holiday not the best in terms of standards but certainly enjoyable for families with some good adult entertainment too!

Enjoyed our stay at Royal Gardens, very clean and staff are very helpful. Food was not too bad (although my husband didn't really like it) same most nights which consisted of rice, mashed potato, stews/goulash, chips, spag bol, salads etc and cakes.
Only went once to the restaurant at lunch time (as exactly the same as dinner) boys and hubby were more suited to hotdogs, burgers, chips and salad. I went for the roast chicken most days at the beach. Food finished at 9pm and nothing more was on offer until breakfast at 7am. Breakfast was always the same and you had to pay for freshly squeesed orange juice.

Entertainment lasted about 1hr per night which was alright. Mini club aimed at little ones, not suited for my 9&8yr olds and if it wasn't for the slides they'd be pretty bored, and these were only on at certain times!! Not much English going on, more aimed for Russians, Dutch and Germans. On our last day we went for lunch and our towels had been removed from our sunbeds at the kids pool and left on the grass, someone had taken our beds!! They are very rude and push their way forward at queues etc, even the kids do it!!

Ice cream only on offer at 3pm on a Wednesday, but there is a shop open at certain times which sell ice lollies etc.

Beach very good and very clean. Roast chicken on offer at the beach restaurant.
Rooms not too bad but a bit dated! I wish now we had asked to be moved to the other part of the hotel, but we are not ones to complain! There was a bit of a safety issue with the windows and patios...these are way too easy to open and the window opens wide to a straight drop below. We were on the 2nd floor, if we had been higher up we would have had to say something, so not good at all if you have young inquisitive children!!
Be careful as the maid tends to leave the window open and we didn't notice for the curtain and we were bit to bits by the mozzies!!

Drink was local drinks and as I don't like spiriits, I had the wine which was very nice and the occasional shandy, which was nice also. No cocktails on offer which would've been a nice wee change!

Overall we had a decent holiday for the cost, as we got a very good deal through Thomas Cook. Would we go back? Probably not, we have now booked a 5* Hotel in Lara Beach and looking forward to that (but much more expensive!)

Room Tip: Avoid a pool view room if you like to lie in....entertainment starts at 10am!

This complex has an old hotel, bit dated and gemanic style, a new hotel (called Royal Garden select - 5star very posh contemporary and modern) and an old annexe across the road.

We booked through Thomas cook and ended up in a room in the old hotel, a family suite with a living room and bedroom, arrived at night and was shocked that there was a huge window in the main bedroom about thigh height that opened very easily and dropped 5 stories onto concrete! Same in the living room where our two young children would sleep, two very low windows with very easily openable handles with straight drop to floor and a balcony door easily openable....so unsafe for children. If your children are inquisitive then this hotel is not safe. There are no locks on the windows/doors. Had a very stressful first night trying to get hold of someone from Thomas Cook to help.

Hotel moved us the next day to the 5star select hotel and this is totally different, modern and only a patio sliding door, much harder to open and a balcony with very high glass surround.

So once we were staying in the Select hotel our holiday was brilliant. The whole complex is spotless, the food fantastic, does not make you ill, very good hygiene, brilliant choice. Friendly staff. Rooms cleaned perfectly. New towels every day. Free drinks in fridge in room. Food all day. Breakfast, then pancakes mid morning, lunch, doughnuts afternoon, then cakes, the dinner. Free fruit juice all day/night, beer, spirits and fizzy drinks.

Pools very clean. Two huge ones. Two toddler ones. Two with 3 slides in each. Slides suitable from toddler to adult.

Views from hotel of mountains.

Plenty of entertainment if you wanted it. Kids disco, pool ice partys, free scuba in the pool, fun team games etc but this wasnt in your face if you just wanted to relax.

Select hotel quiet at night. Sea view rooms quietest. Old hotel very noisy. If you overlook the pool the entertainment goes on late/loud. But if you look the other way then its a nightclub through the night and when that finishes at 4am the mosque starts its very loud chanting!!!!!!!

We would go again but only to stay in the select unless they put locks on the windows/doors then we would stay in either hotel. The old hotel would be fine if you didnt have kids and dont mind a bit of old styling.

Mostly Germans and russians, staff cater mostly for them but we did not find this a huge problem. Lots of sunbeds so that was no bother.
