“Simply delightful!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

We went in the off-season so maybe that had something to do with it! I cannot describe how absolutely gorgeous the chateau was. We had a wonderful time. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained - I mean there was a moat for gods sake! We went in mid November so it was a bit chilly but that didn't detract from the experience at all. Great location - its conveniently close to Paris and nearby Chartres. Our rooms were beautifully proportioned and decorated, though we didn't stay in the chateau itself but in a lodge on the grounds. The main chateau is beautiful, historic, and opulently furnished. My favourite part of each day was the delicious breakfast (included), and if you're lucky enough to grab the window table, gorgeous views of the lake! Only down side was the pricey dinner (which was delicious) but there are lots of other places to eat nearby. The staff were also helpful and friendly.

Chateau d'Esclimont is located SW of Paris and takes about an hour to drive to. We stayed here for 3 nights in mid January. If you don't like crowds, this is the time to travel. I think that we were one of four couples staying in the chateau. The building is lovely - like Dowton Abby I've heard some say.

We were greeted and promptly checked in and shown our room on the second floor of the main building. The room had a large master bedroom with a separate sitting room equipped with a TV and fridge/mini-bar.

Breakfast each day was included in our package. There was a great buffet spread consisting of breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, juices, eggs, croissants, etc. One morning we arrived late and the eggs/sausage was gone, but the Maitre D graciously arranged for an omelette.

Dinner at the Chateau was on the pricey side, but the food was very good and well prepared. Glasses of wine, starting at €9.00 can run the tab up pretty quickly if you're not careful.

The stay at Chateau d'Esclimont was a great way to kick off the second week of our trip to France. We used the chateau as our base for day trips to Versailles and Chartres - both well worth visiting.

On route to Calais from our home in the Ariege we had got to within 100k of Paris and the light was fading. So turned of motorway and the pulled into parking. Asked SatNav for hotels close by and this was closest. When we drove into the grounds the Chateau is stunning and probably worth the room cost just for the experience of the history of the place. Went to reception staff a little cold and we booked the least expensive room 190 Euros without breakfast. The room was fine with a large marble bathroom and bath, but shower part was a hold in your hand job. It is at this point that I will shout a little bit this is part of a international chain so at the prices charged it would not hurt to supply tea and coffee facilities. Anyway once settled we walked the grounds and admired the place it was a nice surprise, we booked for an evening meal as it is of the beaten track . Once in the restaurant I went a bit crazy and said what the hell now we are here let's eat the prestige set menu and this a full experiance , it was worth it the food was delicious especially the steak. The wine list was also another experience with some reds over the 2,000 euro mark, needles to say I did not go that crazy. We did not have breakfast so no comment . overall as stated a very good experience but it does cost and probably rightly so and walking through the Chateau was like stepping back in time and you could feel the history in the air. No regrets about stopping, but for me the staff where quite aloof which might be what is expected in places of this standard but I prefer a smile and a chat, they were not exactly rushed of their feet.

Live a fairy tale!!!! Stay in a real castle!!!.... feel like a princess or a prince... This gorgeous Castle was transformed into a beautiful hotel. Set on calm, beautiful grounds, surrounded by lakes and ducks... among gardens of fresh green grass... hidden from the world...
It´s definately a five star hotel, beautifully decorated with ancient furniture and paintings, but among all the antiques, you have the confort of a brand new bathroon and flat screen tv. The service is very good, the staff is so polite, and they offer a 5 star cuisine restaurant inside, the "Rochefocault restaurant", absolutely delicious food and wine. Worth every dime!!!!

Room Tip: I recommend one of the "Classic Traditional" bedrooms with a garden view.

check in was really slow. beds are so old an uncomfortable (not like a W heavenly bed, or big chain hotel beds) rooms are spacious and very large, but quite dated, and heating didn't work properly. bathrooms also large, though no heating in marble floors, unlike other 5 star hotels.

we chose to have dinner at the hotel, and was very disappointed in the food! the beef steak was barely edible as the odor was so strong. the risotto was also disappointing, tasted it was made with evaporated milk. would highly recommend to drive out to nearby villages and try dinner there instead.

definitely not a 5 star for us, and found it overpriced. would not return.

Me and a couple of friends stayed in Chateau d'Esclimont for 2 nights in mid-September.
It was my first time staying in a real castle, so no previous experience to compare.
Vast, silent and beautiful park, pond with black swan, walls and the turrets of this old chateau - it all was impressive, romantic and kinda dreamy.
And then... it may be my own biased opinion, but the interior and service is not that of a 5* hotel one would normally expect. Rooms are big and clean, but cold (we couldn't manage with heater system to our shame), and some equipment is not all that modern. Staff is smiling and willing to help, but if you need anything urgent (like taxi or coffe) - don't set your expectations too hight.
Still, it's a perfect place if you want some relaxed and isolated time for yourself, and don't ming minor lack of comfort in exchange. In the end, kings and princeses of older times hardly ever nagged about weak hairdryer :)

beautiful chateau - great grounds - great location.
but needs to change their lift - hot water system.
it should have a real business center with enough space to open a file.
otherwise excellent service - food - location.
a great thank you to all

thank you

Room Tip: stay in the main building of the Chateau.
