Fell in love the moment we walked into the lobby. Gorgeous wood everywhere. Fascinating carvings. Two nights in a a most comfortable bed with amazing views out the window. Didn't want to leave. Restaurant was good. Loved the buffet breakfast and eating on the balcony.

We just had a fantastic three nights here and can't say enough about how happy we were. The views from our "Sunset Room" and the hotel restaurant are spectacular and change hourly as the clouds roll in and out. The staff is extremely helpful and always willing to answer questions, call a cab or do whatever is needed. All spoke English very well. The food in the restaurant is very good from breakfast through dinner. The room itself was beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows to bring the outdoors inside. Although it was the rainy season, it was actually very nice each day until the mid to late afternoon when the rains moved in. We even toured the cloud forest in the sun! We recommend the night tour, the ice cream at the cheese factory, and restaurant named Morpho. And Stella's Bakery. The hotel is situated between the cloud forest reserve and the town so you do need a cab or car to get around.

Room Tip: Sunset Room was great!

This is a beautiful hotel with it's elegant furnishings and decorations. The buildings are chalets, appropriate for the mountain setting I was fortunate to be upgraded to one of their deluxe chalet rooms with full windows on two sides, affording views all the way to the Pacific Ocean (on a clear day). The room also had a private jacuzzi and a wonderfully comfortable bed.
Being the low season, with few bookings, the breakfast was a la carte rather than the usual buffet, but quite good just the same. Coffee is free any time of the day, and can be brought to your room. Staff are friendly and helpful, and I would happily stay again.

We stayed for 2 nights and loved the breathtaking view and serenity of the hotel. We loved our room - floor to ceiling windows overlooking the valley, the decor of the hotel, and the town itself. The room was extremely clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the food was delicious. The trip to Monteverde is an experience(!) but we are glad we didn't miss out. We had to leave at 5:30 am and they offered to pack us breakfast etc. Thanks so much for everything!

Room Tip: Room 16 or 17 overlook the valley and are exceptional.

Stayed here for two nights while in Monteverde. I was hoping to enjoy the hotel more than I did after reading the good reviews. Unfortunately that was not the case.

We arrived tired after a bumpy, rainy, drive through 20 miles of unpaved, gravel road. It's the only way to get into the region but still worth the visit. We were greeted with cool towels and a mixed fruit drink.

We were shown to a room on the top floor which was moderately sized, but damp and musty. I know that it is rainy season, but without an HVAC system, everything was damp. The bedding/bed smelled moldy. The furnishings and the bathroom design were tired and dated. The bathroom ventilation system had a leak in it. There was a pool of water collecting on the floor which I wiped up with a washcloth. Somehow that dirty washcloth was placed back on the vanity with turndown service. Despite informing the front desk of the problem, it was not corrected during our stay. We did not ask to change rooms since we had already unpacked and did not want to repack to move.

Additional poor cleaning issues including finding blond hairs in the room that did not belong to my husband or me.

The one great thing about our room was the view over the cloud forest on the clear mornings. We can see all the way to the Pacific.

We had a private dinner arranged for us which was well prepared. It was five courses with salad, stuffed mushrooms, sea bass, tenderloin and a selection of desserts. It was paired with a nice malbec. We received great service from the private waiter.

The hotel was located neat Santa Elena with easy access to Monteverde Reserve. We had a private tour with a guide and learned a lot about the cloud forest. We also did a private tour in Curi Cancha and were able to see several quetzals.

Not sure if I would recommend this hotel. It is probably the best hotel in the region but it still has room for improvement.

Pros-All the wood in the Hotel Belmar is beautiful. The beds are comfortable and sleeping in the cool, open-air was great. The view was serene. The hot tub was relaxing after rigorous adventures in Monte Verde. The breakfast buffet was yummy and the coffee was delicious. The staff was initially friendly and helpful with directions. A great family-owned Italian restaurant is walking distance from the hotel. Cons-If you have noisy neighbors, you hear everything because the balconies are right next to each other. The restaurant is over-priced, and the "Happy Hour" prices won't make you happy. The pros could have outweighed the cons to the point of overlooking, and not even remembering them because we had such a magnificent experience in Costa Rica to this point. So what was wrong when we were so ready for everything to be so right? The Safe isn't safe. We had an envelope of small bills in US$ stored in our in-room hotel safe that we counted before we stored it and left on our adventures for the day. $46 USD were missing upon our return count. Although the concierge denied safe-theft as a possibility, the money was still missing. Upon check-out, the staff tried to tell us we owed on a restaurant bill charged to our room when we had eaten elsewhere that evening. They weren't insistent because a staff member had given us directions to the restaurant where we had eaten and we had the receipt. We also had the receipt settling our room charge account. Something is amiss here. I sense that something unscroupulous is going on here internally that has not come to light yet. Would not stay here again.

My girlfriend and I stayed here in June this year for just two nights but we had a great stay. Our room was exceptionally clean and looked great with the wood finishing. We had a huge window which covered floor to ceiling two walls of our room which allowed us amazing views out into the rainforest. The shower was excellent and the little balcony was perfect for sitting out in the mornings and evenings. Beyond this, the restaurant served some of the best food we had while we were in Costa Rica and is highly recommended.
