On arrival we were given hot towels and cool fruit drinks and soon felt refreshed after our long drive up the bumpy road!! The hotel was amazing, our room spectacular, great service, friendly and helpful staff and very yummy breakfasts. (We had dinner at the hotel too, it was delicious). We called the staff with a question - and before we hung up they were knocking on our door.
We splurged a little and went with the canopy room - we had our own hot tub, amazing balcony view, and i can't get over how nice the shampoo and other products were. I almost bought a bunch! It was just spectacular. I recommend!!

Well run hotel with excellent service. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room had a balcony and a lovely view of the Nicoya peninsula. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Well situated for the tours in Monteverde.

There are people they look for the best value for the price. We look for the best quality and then we decide if the price is reasonable for this quality. Our stay at the Belmar was a decision made from this perspective. And we must say, that we got a very good quality on every level. We had a room overlooking the ocean. This rooms are located to the south. If you take one of this rooms you will have an amazing view and a wonderful spacious room with a Jaccuzzi inside. The restaurant serves meals which are much more delicious as we expected on a place like this. The fish was perfect and the tenderloin juicy and tasty. The service is friendly and very competent, what one should expect in a place like this. We think it is important to choose the right rooms in order to be really satisfied. Just adapt an old secret for travelers. The room has to be directed to the sun and you will fell comfortable. We also had another room first, which was even more spacious as the room we had then, but it was directed to the forrest. Just forget those rooms, if you want to enjoy your stay. Okay?

Room Tip: The rooms to the south are amazing with a wonderful sunset and view to the ocean. Just incredible!

What an amazing hotel in a beautiful location. I can't fault anything!! The room with large french doors overlooking the rain forest and Nicoya peninsula - just spectacular. On arrival we were given hot towels and cool fruit drinks and soon felt refreshed after our long drive up the bumpy road!! But soooo worth it for just 2 nights in paradise. The hotel jacuzzi was heaven after an afternoon zip lining through the cloud forest. Followed by a couple of cocktails on the restaurant balcony (what a sunset!!) and a lovely evening meal. Food was excellent. Staff were very helpful, friendly and informative. Highly recommended.

I have just read some of the other reviews, and notice that they are all over the map! We found the Belmar to be a charming hotel. We stayed in the older building, on the top floor, overlooking the forest. The wind blew rather vociferously most nights, but particularly hard our first night, during which my husband insisted on sleeping with the sliding door open. I thought we were going to blow away. I did notice that on our last morning, we could hear our neighbors through the walls. And the water pressure wasn't fabulous, nor the shower temperature consistent. But they're trying really hard to be ecological, and I can take a bit of inconvenience for that. We thought the staff were universally excellent - welcoming, polite, and very helpful and informative. The food was good. We had dinner there one night, and found it to be good, and very reasonable. We loved the hot tub-- after a long hike, it was a little bit of heaven to sink into the tub in its lovely enclosure. I also took a complementary yoga class with Greg, which was marvelous. All in all, we thought it was an excellent hotel. The road up to the hotel is pretty awful, but if you can't deal with bad roads, you probably shouldn't be in Monteverde in the first place.

One has to appreciate this hotel most especially because it is so hard to get to Monteverde. After a grueling 30 km trip up a steep mountainside on a rugged gravel road in our 4WD, we arrive at this piece of heaven. And the first thing that happens is young Dylan hands us cool washcloths and fresh fruit juice on a tray. Wow. Add to that the very comfortable and well appointed rooms, the hotel's strong commitment to environmental sustainability, and the lovely wait staff (gracias, "Doña" Carla!!). Other highlights: The wall of glass in our rooms, the views of the Gulf of Nicoya, the amazing stars at night, the jacuzzi, the free yoga class, and the great breakfast buffet. We found the hotel's restaurant food a bit pricy and the drinks were stingy, but overall very good quality cuisine. Note that the hotel is a bit of a walk from the town center -- we had our own car but those without may find themselves relying on taxis more than they realize unless they have strong hiking legs. A couple of tips: bring earplugs - you're in the mountains and the wind at night really howls. Also, don't take the lotion. We had an awkward moment at checkout when Veronica told us the half empty tubes of hand lotion we'd thrown in our bags needed to stay behind as the hotel would refill and reuse them. A great idea and I applaud them but wouldn't it have saved me some embarrassment as a guest to put a small sign in my room alerting me to this? I thought I was just not being wasteful. Anyhooo, loved Hotel Belmar, loved the staff, loved Monteverde, and can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: the westward view is everything here.

The level of service is on par with that of the Ritz. From the drinks and warm towels when you arrive to the room cleanings twice a day. The Spa is a must! The restaurant was the best in town. The rooms don't have TVs which I could see some people having an issue with but personally I liked the quality time. The views were spectacular.
