It's worth the drive up the long bumpy road! We were greeted at our car and even provided welcome drinks. The staff, grounds and room were AMAZING! Worth every penny. From the breakfast, to staff remembering us by name and the trails and maid service - our stay was perfect.

We stayed here four nights. We were in a basic room, which was lovely and spacious with a view of the gardens and the Nicoya Penninsula. The grounds are well maintained, as is the building. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This is an environmental hotel who take this seriously. A few things:
- restaurant had excellent food. Servers were super friendly. A couple issues: service of drinks could be particularly slow. We often got drinks well after we had started eating, even when the place was quiet. We didn't mins much but you should be aware to be on them if this bugs you.
- breakfast was very nice, but they could be extremely slow to replace items. After waiting over 10 minutes I had to hunt someone down to get plates and glasses.
- juice is delicious and you must try the ice cream for dessert once!
- showers are conservation showers with lower pressure. We didnt care because we have similar showers in BC. However, the temperature fluxes between scalding and ice cold at times. Just beware if you have a child in the shower. Adults can jump out of the way quicker. We found shower issues in most hotels, so maybe this us common throughout the country.

We found these issues minor, especially since the hotel and location were great and the staff was so awesome!

This is one of the most amazing hotels I've stayed at, through all my travels in various countries. It is secluded but close to everything.
The views are wonderful, the hotel has a fantastic atmosphere, and the whole place is amazing!

I got tremendously good and valuable tips and guidance on what to see and do from the staff.

Especially big super thanks to Dylan Vasquez who works at the hotel. He gave me the best help ever, and I felt extremely well looked after. Enormously grateful to meet such friendly people for a woman traveling alone ....
Next time I come to Costa Rica, I will definitely visit Monteverde again!

The Hotel Belmar was perfect in every way! We are a family of four and stayed in a sunset room. There was plenty of space, and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub on our balcony, as we watched the sunset. The bathrooms were spacious and well appointed. The slippers and robes were a nice touch. Breakfast was included and was ample. There was an omlette station, pancakes, delicious fruit and the typical options. The service was impeccable. We were given excellent advice about where to go for the range of activities. Extrema was a great site for bungee and zip lines, and the Hotel selected a great guide for our Monteverde hike. We have traveled broadly and spent 11 nights in Costa Rica. Hotel Belmar was definitely the best of the hotels.

Room Tip: We were in the Sunset Suite. It was perfect!

This is a lovely hotel. We stayed in the chalet and had a large room on the 2nd floor with fabulous views of the jungle and sunset. We felt like we were staying in a treehouse. While relaxing on our balcony we saw monkeys swinging through the branches. There's a large 2 person jacuzzi surrounded by windows that my kids loved. The shower is open concept and is next to the jacuzzi and you'll need to close the curtain to have any privacy from others hanging out in the room. The bathroom is long and narrow with 2 sinks but few hooks for hanging your kit. But with no magnifying mirror and a wide counter it was tough to put in/take out my contacts. They have large containers of wonderful & organic shampoos, soap, conditioner and body wash that stay at the hotel to eliminate the waste of handing out tiny bottles of this stuff. This hotel is very environmentally conscience. The very very best part of this hotel is the wonderful coffee that they make for you for free. It was either freshly pressed or espresso, I'm not sure, but it was freshly made and they were happy to make it and it was beyond delicious. My husband and I would drink 2 or 3 cups in the late afternoon while watching the sunset on the hotel's restaurant's balcony. The breakfast was very good. The banana bread and the fresh fruit were super. This hotel is not that close to town. We were able to walk to Tramonti for a terrific Italian meal but walking into town, especially at night on that narrow street without sidewalks, would have been too treacherous. However, a cab is cheap and they are abundant. The beds were comfortable - they added a queen or double bed for my 2 kids. We were only in Monte Verde for 2 nights for the jungle night hike, ziplining and for the hanging bridges hike, and this hotel was a very good place to stay for relaxing after those adventures. Plus, the staff was very warm and very efficient.

Room Tip: Corner room on the 2nd floor of the Chalet made you feel like you were up in the trees as the side w...

This hotel is just far enough away from the tourist area of Santa Elena to be quiet yet still conveniently located. The view from the hotel room balconies is unbeatable. Before we got there I had no idea that we'd be able to see the ocean from that far inland. The included breakfast buffet was top-notch. The dinner at the hotel was very delicious, though a tad pricey. We enjoyed the hotel happy hour both evenings we were there, and I had maybe the best cocktail I've ever tasted. We walked the small nature trail around the hotel grounds as well as paid extra for an off-site morning hike organized by the hotel, and it was well worth it! We saw monkeys and beautiful rare birds. Would absolutely recommend this hotel!
