This reserve is less traveled than Monteverde, but similar in what you will see. We took a 7:30 am tour and were very impressed with our knowledgeable tour guide. His English was very good and he appeared to be an expert bird caller. We saw the Resplendent Quetzal (magnificent) in his scope. I think that others were also able to see it with the naked eye but I did not. We also saw the endangered Belbor. I was very impressed with our guide’s persistence in looking for the best viewing opportunities. One thing to mention: monkeys and sloths are not usually seen. I went with the expectation of seeing them, but they really are difficult to spot. Regardless, though, the birds, insects and plant life are amazing and you’ll be amazed what you learn on the tour.

A nice hiking experience in a wonderful piece of ancient preserved forest. Easy trails for a self guided walk. Beautiful nature!

Without our guide - Bernie - this would have been a fairly ok trip but he was brilliant. Spotted a Quetzal bird very early on and the hummingbirds were amazing. We only went on the sky walk but the views were stunning and even vertigo-afflicted husband enjoyed the trip (as long as he could walk along the middle of the bridges!). Bernie had loads of info and was very adept at finding the birds and animals and we didn't feel at all rushed even though we were running a bit late. We were so pleased at seeing a coati foraging in the undergrowth that the joy of discovery wasn't diminished by the three other coatis hanging out in the car park!

This cloud forest is breathtaking. OK, you may not see a whole lot of wildlife, in large part because it's misty, cloudy, maybe a bit wet. But the purpose of this park, in my opinion, is to soak up the lush greenery and beautiful sounds...and some water droplets, too.

We've visited Monteverde and Curi Cancha and prefer Santa Elena over both. Orlando was an excellent guide. Even if you don't see much wildlife, enjoy this magical forest.

We didn't see a lot of wildlife on this day but this was still an informative walk. We didn't go to the Monte Verde but were attracted to the "less people" thing this place had to offer. We saw some quetzals and other birds. You definitely will need some rain gear for this and take care of your camera!
