We may have had one of the worst rooms, and have US standards, but our room was very cramped with no heat or air conditioning. The "town" was about 1/2 mile away on a very rough dirt road. The grounds were very nice and breakfast typical, but even by the Costa Rica standards, an inferior experience.

A beautiful location very near to the village. The rooms were fine but lacked hot water as mentioned in other posts. We had multiple trips to the reception to get the water working usually resulting in the water working for about 30 minutes. Breakfast was simple but ok.

The grounds of Hotel Claro de Luna are gorgeous; however, everything else was sorely disappointing. We were in one of the "luxury" suites. There are no ceiling fans or screens on the windows, so we ended up with lots of bugs in the room. Somewhat expected since we were in Costa Rica, but still something that could be easily remedied if the owners actually cared. The phone in our room was dead. Unfortunately, we had several problems so that meant we had to make several trips to the front office. On our first day there, we realized that there was no hot water. The girl in the front office explained that the person who deals with such matters was no longer on the premises, so we were just going to have to wait until the next day. Ok, not the best costumer service, but there was nothing that we could do so we decided to wait it out. We were told that breakfast started at 6:30am. This was great since we had a tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest that started at 7:30am. At 6:30am we walked over to the breakfast building to find the cook stranded outside. She explained that she did not have a key. No worries I thought, the front office opens at 6am. Surely they have been hard at work for the past 30 minutes. WRONG. The front office was locked and empty. We walked back to the breakfast building and stood around with the cook for a while. Finally, someone with a key showed up at 7am. They rushed to serve us breakfast which was nice, but we ended up being late for our tour. When we returned to the hotel, we went back to the front office to ask about the hot water situation. We ran into the people in the suite next to us and they mentioned that they did not have hot water either. The girl in the front office told us that someone would come to our suite to help us. We waited about 45 minutes and someone finally arrived. She turned on the water for us and we waited and waited and waited. You know what we got? Luke warm water. Our "luxury" room had a whirlpool tub. There was barely enough tepid water to fill past the jets. What's the point of that? Basically we paid a lot of money for...I don't know what. I generally don't write bad reviews for places. You know, maybe they were having a bad day or something. However, I mentioned all of this to our travel agent. He kindly messaged Claro de Luna to investigate and they lied about everything. I find that unacceptable. My favorite part of their response was, "no one has ever complained about a lack of hot water". Maybe they should check out their TripAdvisor reviews...

We were here 1 night and had a great experience with the hotel. Very friendly staff. We had one of the rooms in the back of the garden and not in the main building. Big rooms with a porch.
You can walk from the hotel to the village to find a restaurant.

Room Tip: Take a room in the back of the garden. In the main building its really noisy and the rooms are very...

The hotel is better than in the pictures,it looks like a Swiss chalet, with beautiful small gardens and you can walk to the center of town where the restaurants are .We stayed there 3 days with our 7 year old and love it, the staff it's amazing they went out of their way to please us. Breakfast is very good. We booked a deluxe room which has a lot of lovely details and a porche with rocking chairs in front of a flower garden. We felt like if we had a small casita (house) in Costa Rica. If we go to Monteverde again we'll definitelly stay there again.

Room Tip: They have only 2 types of rooms : Standart and Deluxe, I recomend the deluxe because you have more s...

We had an excellent experience here. The staff are friendly, helpful, and extremely tolerant of exuberant, noisy children (ours). The setting is intimate yet afforded a lot of privacy. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the rooms immaculate and luxurious. The breakfasts were delicious. We'd have loved an in-room coffee maker, but all in all, it was fantastic.

Room Tip: They're all good rooms, but the rooms facing away from the main courtyard are very private and f...

My sister and I want to tell you that, thanks to you, our trip to Costa Rica was awesome! We had a great time and everything went perfectly. I cannot adequately express to you how impressed we both were with the willingness of the personnel at the hotel to accommodate and provide for our needs. The service was unparalleled. I would highly recommend your services to anyone considering a trip to your remarkable country. Susan and Suhyleen at the desk were SO helpful. I broke my camera during this part of the trip; they were willing to burn a CD of my photos on their computer so that I wouldn’t lose our pictures. Our room was very nice and the gardens were exquisite. The power went out while we were there and they were still able to take care of everything that we needed. Thank you very much.
