“Just a great place with good food, service and wines.”
Reviewed 15 May 2014 via mobile

We asked locally, where would you take your grandma for Sunday lunch, La Citadelle was recommended. What a great recommendation, superb food, we had a mostly fish meal but a course of lamb crept in there. All was very good, the oysters, excellent, the cuttlefish very good and the puds a delight, really can you ask for more?

The bill was £40.00 each, it left us thinking that that was good value, some very good wines of the area to taste and a good list to choose from.

The menu had a number of set menus at differing price points.

So better get your grandma along!

“Great value”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

We had lunch at la Citadelle for my birthday. The restaurant is located by the harbour and offers traditional and regional dishes.
We went for regional choices: whelks, the rockfish soup with croutons and cheese and the fish terrine for starters and then the seafood sauerkraut (choucroute de la mer) for the main course. We thought the food was delicious, very flavoursome. I highly recommend the sauerkraut, it's one of their signature dishes and it's a real treat. Very rich and creamy. It goes very well with a glass (or two) of Gewürztraminer.
We might have been a little too ambitious ordering two starters as portions are very generous and we could barely finish our main course. We were too stuffed for dessert, and settled for coffee.
The staff was engaging and attentive. Prices were unbeatable for the quality of both the food and staff. Next time we come back to Granville we'll make sure to stop by la Citadelle for lunch or dinner.
Best to book a table as the restaurant is very popular.

“Excellent food, service could be better”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Quiet expensive, but worth every cent you pay - really tasty and well-prepared meals, especially sea food and fishes. Good English speaking staff but instead of giving us advices and explaining menu (only in French) he gave us English-French dictionary..
For such class restaurant located in tourism area preparing some menu cards also in other languages (e.g. English, German) couldn't cost very much but it helps to avoid misunderstandings during ordering process and save waiters time on explanation.

“Confusing, but nice!”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

We were there a couple of days ago. Granville is such a sweet city and this restaurant is down by the harbour. We were lucky the first time, but if you can reserve a table. The confusing part was the language. Some how we ended up having one beef on share. Either way the steak was wonderful and so was the dessert and entrees.

“Very Reliable Good Food”
Reviewed 14 July 2013 via mobile

This was the 3rd time I have eaten at La Citadelle. This time was no exception. Food was terrific. We ate from the 32€ menu, ate a variety of choices and all enjoyed our food. The trio of creme brûlée was a little too sweet for my taste, deconstructed pineapple cheesecake was fantastic. Fish dishes marvellous, and duck breast cooked to my son's liking. Service was good and it was nice to see the same staff from previous visits which is always a good sign. We will be back next time we are in Normandy.
