If you want a nice place, right on the beach, with a great restaurant! Look no further. We had the biggest beach bungalow and that was great as we travelled with a small boy. And he had his own bed. The resort, is a bit used, compared to the other resort we stayed in. but the view from the rooms is stunning, also the sunset is direct in front of the room!
I will say that the restaurant is one of the best on the island, please try the curries, they are great.
Breakfast; Not buffet, but very good and lots of choices and excellent quality. We got orange juice, coffee (fresh grinded), omelette, yogurt with fresh fruit, toast with butter and jam.

This was our second trip to Koh Mak and our first stay at Lazy Day Resort. It was superb - the location was perfect, the rooms were cleaned every day, the staff were helpful and very pleasant, and the grounds were well kept. The beach was small but clean. The food was very good. The owners were lovely people.
The only issue we had was with the people giving massages at the massage hut on the resort grounds. The man often listened to his radio so loudly we could hear it in our bungalow and on the beach, and he went to the bathroom in the trees behind our bungalow. One of the ladies often talked so loudly on her cell phone we could hear her from the restaurant!
We would love to return to Lazy Day Resort. The resort staff were great but the people working at the massage hut could be much more considerate to guests. Everything else about the resort was just wonderful.

'Lazy Day' may be one of the more pricey options for your stay at Koh Mak island, but without a doubt it is one of the best.

From what we saw driving and walking around the island, Lazy Day offers one of the best (if not the best) beaches and accommodation. Elsewhere seemed smaller, dirtier and generally unkempt (I wish Thai people would appreciate their surroundings more). What really sets this place apart however is the manager and his friendly and caring manner. Service is top-notch by anyone's standard and food is always good and breakfasts generous.

To say a few words about Koh Mak, it is not an island for adventurers or restless people. It is a destination for couples in love or people needing to unwind. By that I mean, there is not that much to do on this island (they can show you the rubber tree plantation, how's that!?) apart from eating, drinking (at your room), swimming and making love. DO NOT go here if you want to party and live it up. You will be gravely disappointed.

While food at the hotel restaurant is very good, I would recommend going about 5 minutes outside the resort (by motorbike) to a local restaurant called ''Peaw restaurant" (see picture). This place serves INCREDIBLE Thai food that is also very cheap (30-50 baht per dish compared with 150-350 baht at the resort) and large in portions. Don't miss it!

So often when you come to an island in Thailand, it looks like paradise on paper. The reality is that it often reveals itself as an over-developed tourist trap, where relaxation is impossible due to the noise of bars, loud music, crowds, traffic, on-going building works etc. This is not the case with Koh Mak. It is genuinely a peaceful island getaway, so don't come here if you need constant sensual stimulation of the artificial kind. It is a place to relax and enjoy nature. The Lazy Days resort couldn't be better for this activity.
Lazy Days is a low-key development of around a dozen bungalows, built on a lawned garden area right in front of the sea. It is surrounded by a coconut grove, so no noisy neighbours. The extremely friendly owners will collect you from the boat pier and take you to the resort. The bungalows are spacious white-washed villas (they look like something from the Greek islands) which are bright and airy. All have views of the sea, and you can even watch the sea whilst you are having a shower (if you wish). There are large sliding doors which open onto a wide balcony. The villas are situated for maximum privacy. The large windows all open to allow sea breezes to come through. There is a fridge in the room, no TV, and beds are firm (not to everyone's taste).
There is no pool at the resort but as you are right on the beach it is not necessary. The beach is pretty but quite a narrow strip of sand and a lot of flotsam& jetsam floats to shore but the staff regularly sweep the rubbish away.
The food in the restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced. You can rent Mountain bikes and motor scooters from the resort and it is really pleasant to get out an explore the island. You can still see working rubber and coconut plantations and nice island scenery. The roads are lightly used so it's one of the few places in Thailand you would be safe to ride a motorscooter around! The owners make you feel like a long-lost friend which gives you a very warm feeling and makes you want to come back. Come and enjoy this place while it lasts; it is worth the extra effort to get here.

We enjoyed three really beautiful lazy days there. Perfectly placed at the end of the beach so that you can enjoy absolute quiet while sunbathing or reading at the seaside. Very nice owners and comfort bungalows.

When we arrived at the pier on Ko Mak we telephoned Lazy Day Resort and asked for directions - as we were happy to walk with our backpacks (As yet, this resort is not listed in the "Rough Guide" - we found it on Travelfish). They told us to stay where we were as this would involve a walk of several kilometers in the noonday sun - and a pickup truck would immediately come to collect us. Fifteen minutes later we were being checked in by an absolutely charming couple. First impressions were excellent - and remained unchanged during our entire stay. Our room was huge, bright and spotless - with sliding doors leading onto a balcony area with comfortable deck chairs and free wifi access (extremely useful as we were planning each stage of our month-long trip around Thailand just a few days in advance). The beach was only a few metres away and each bungalow was perfectly positioned to take advantage of the view. We chose to eat at the resort each night as they offered a really good range of Thai food, which was served exctly as we requested ("phet phet" - hot & spicy). We had already considered other restaurants in the local village as possibilities for evening meals - but almost all seemed geared towards providing food for Western European palates; principally currywurst and french fries!. We hired mountain bikes from the resort on our second day and spent about 8 hours exploring what is a wonderful and (as yet) unspoilt island - coconut groves and rubber plantations. Most other days we walked up and down the length of Ao Kao beach, or just lay and enjoyed the sunshine. On the morning of our departure we had an early start to catch the first boat of the day - check out was painless and a pick-up truck was already sitting there to take us to the pier. Our hosts waved us off - and continued to to so until we lost sight of each other. We would recommend Lazy Day without hesitation - but do not miss the opportunity get out and explore the island. Given the length and quality of the main beach (plus a number of smaller beaches - some impossible to access through the jungle without a motorbike or mountain bike), I suspect that hotel development will arrive here sooner rather than later. Whilst there we learnt that the greater Ko Chang area has already been earmarked by the government for expansion of tourism. Get there as soon as you can!

Would go there again if i'm going to Koh Maak.

Room Tip: Any room would do in my opinion.
