Firstly this is a good review, we loved our stay here over Christmas, it was bliss, despite it being geared around the Germans! However, Steve F is correct because whilst we can't fault the resort, it is immaculately clean, grounds are pristine, beatifully manicured lawns and stunning orchids, staff super efficient and friendly, we did think it was expensive for what you get, in comparison to other Thai resorts on other islands.
We had the best bungalow which was spacious and perfectly located right by the beach, in fact it was idyllic, but to be critical, it was sparsely furnished. For the best bungalow I would have liked to have seen a few little extras, such as nicer furniture, better mattress, higher quality bedding etc etc and some traditional homely Thai touches to set it apart from the cheaper accommodation . All the bungalows are identical, which seems strange when they are different prices.
The interior was quite stark, it being all concrete, which i realise is maintenence free, but appearance wise, not very attractive. My boyf says - although it doesn't matter to me - for that price he would have expected a tv and satellite to catch up on news.
Also funnily enough, the best most expensive bungalow has the worst wifi signal, due to the fact it's is furthest away from reception. We could tell when other guests had returned, as water pressure was significant reduced so much so the shower was just a trickle and electrical power pretty poor when everyone had their air con on. This wouldn't put us off, but it should be something to be addressed when paying 4/5 star prices
Saying that the owner Ann and his wife are absolutely lovely as are the staff. The resort is in a perfectly tranquil location, transfers from the Pier included and so is a comprehensive breakfast. We did think the evening food there double the price of local restaurants so only ate there once, but what we had was very good indeed.
We would stay there again without question, but it would come down to our budget or if perhaps these little things were addressed. I have no problem with accommodation that commands a high price, however the finish and amenities need to reflect that.
In conclusion, Lazy Day is lovely and probably in the best location on the island, maybe they will be open to little suggestions to make it even better without raising prices further though!
