I moved here from Monkey Island. For an extra 500BHT I got a much better standard of room, service, location. So here for three nights and really liked it. It's at the very end of the northern beach so not right on it, but only a walk away. They have their own pier stretching out 100m into the sea which is the best seat in the house. The sea breeze keeps you cool and the sunset from here is gorgeous.
Room was good size, separate bathroom and toilet - although slightly open air a mozzie coil seemed to keep them away.
I must must must warm you of the sandflies though. They are a real pain and left me totally covered in bites. Even with inspect spray!
Free wifi and really friendly staff make this a lovely place to stay.
The nearby Koh Mak resort has a lovely cafe on the beach that does high-quality lunches.
The menu at Coccape is not the biggest for a selection but the small village is only a 15 min walk away.
Koh Mak is a real hidden gem (apart form the sandflies) and gives you a taste of how parts of Thailand must have been before the tourist revolution ruined other islands. Rough Guide says this beach isn;t as nice as it's southern alternative but I totally disagree.

We stayed here for 5 days, and had properly moved, if we had not paid for the 5 days the day we arrived. The food in the restaurant where expencive and not very good. Breakfast was terrible. Our aircon in the room was broken when we arrived, but they fixed it... after a couple of days the aircon broke again, and we complained. They tried to fix it again, but it never worked properly so we complained again, and the girl: "Bun" at the frontdesk, went angry and told us that we had broken it ourselves, and besides they had also given us a discount on the room!! We finally got an other room with a working aircon.

After 2 days we didn't eat any more meals at the Cococape restaurant, but went to some of the other restaurants on the island with much better food at lower prices.

I booked to stay at Cococape for myself, my girlfriend and another couple for 1 week over christmas 2008. I spoke to the manager guy on the phone and booked online and they seemed very professional. On arrival the "compound" looks impressive and well manicured and the restaurant/games area looks good. The pool area and rooms are lovely, but there is NO beach, although a short walk led us to a perfect strip of sand had it not been for the rubbish that was washed up there. The breakfast was TERRIBLE...cold eggs, soggy toast, and very little thai choice...cold noodles and eggs again. The staff didn't have a clue what they were doing, a Thai guy who was running the bar told me most of the staff are first years from a catering and hospitality college, so they tend to smile and be curteous but can't understand a word you are saying. The manager lady was rude and the standard of food was average. To top it off on the day that we were leaving, we had booked a speed boat back to Ko Chang with Monkey shack(on the other side of the island). One of the guys who could'nt speak a word of English, suddenly started talking like the Queen by saying "excuse me sir, but the speedboat is cancelled due to bad weather, we have a boat leaving later on, we will put you on that" He then passed me his phone, and a guy on the other end said "Sorry, Boat cancel" I went to Monkey Shack to check and the boat was running as normal...on my return to Cococape, our helpful friend suddenly forgot how to speak English and at first refused to take us to Monkey Shack(Boat pick up point), eventually we got there with 2 minutes to spare. I know there is a scam around every corner in Thailand, but you don't expect it after spending a week at the same place...The other side is totally different..Poms place was nice and he was very helpful..AVOID Cococape.

I loved Cococape. Friendly staff, good food, nice snorkeling. You can use their WLAN for free. If you want to go snorkeling on nearby Ko Kham, just ask and they take you there with a boat. I will go back soon.

For our honeymoon my husband and I travelled around Thailand for a month during March and April 2009. We stayed in Coco Cape Koh Mak for two nights. Without a doubt Coco Cape was the worst place we stayed in Thailand. In fact, it was the only bad place we stayed. Our bed was crawling with ants. There was a huge amount of insects inside the villa because there were large gaps at the tops of the walls (some of them wedged with ugly polysteryne) so the insects came in freely as did other wildlife. There were HUGE cock roaches. We also had lizards (which I like). We spoke to another guest when we were leaving the island and he had had a huge brown hairy spider in his room, as big as his hand, taranula type spider. I was so glad to get away from there. Luckily everywhere else we stayed was endlessly better than Coco Cape.

Besides the bugs etc. there were other problems... The sheets felt like they hadn't been changed, they were old and worn and felt horrible. Definitely the worst we came across in Thailand.

The food was way below average and the waiter was the rudest we met in Thailand. If you are vegetarian the best you can hope for is stir fried vegetables with rice. Ordering anything was really complicated because of the language barrier so don‘t try to order off menu. There were a number of places on the other side of the island with much better food. There are also a few other resorts along the water next to Coco Cape with restaurants but we didn’t try any of those.

We got an inferior room to the one we had paid for and our air con didn't work properly. So watch out for that. Also, most of the rooms only have air con from 9pm to 7am so there is nowhere cool to go to relax if you are feeling too warm during the morning/day/evening.

On the morning we left the island we had a long journey ahead of us. Breakfast was included in the price we paid. The breakfast that was given to us consisted of a plate with two slices of dry toast and a knife and fork, nothing to drink. That was it, I kid you not. The previous morning it was a bit better, we had eggs and toast with butter and tea (and warm cut fruit with flies on it).

The resort had seen better days and had had shabby repairs made. When we were there some of the beach cabins had ugly patches of corrugated metal on their thatched roofs.

The location is on the quieter side of the island. It's a very beautiful location but removed from other amenities. The resort is on the sea but at a very rocky area. You have to walk a short distance to get to a place where you can go into the water. Even then I suggest you bring rubber shoes that you can wear into the sea because there is still a lot of rocks and stones to negotiate. Because this is a less developed island it seems that nobody cleans up the beaches unless it's directly outside their resort. As a result there is a lot of rubbish on the quieter beaches. It's washed up because waste is often dumped into the sea.

Besides the rude waiter all the other staff were friendly, even if they didn’t speak English, so it wasn’t all bad. The girl on the front desk was friendly and spoke good English.

The waiter also tried to charge us for dishes we hadn't had so unless you are happy to pay for things you didn't get I suggest you check your bill before paying.

Overall we really liked the island, it's beautiful - if you can see past the rubbish on the beaches. It was very peaceful there. But we would never in a million years stay at Coco Cape again. There are much much nicer places to stay on the island.

The CocoCape is on the windy side of the island. There is no beach at the resort, and the closest beaches are dirty because of the wind and the waves. Full of rubbish like plastic, rotting coconuts etc. The wind also made it a little uncozy to sit in the restaurant, so most nights it was deserted. A couple who were staying in the beachfront bungalows couldn't sleep because of the noise from the sea at night. But this was in November, other times of year might be better! The resort itself is beautiful, with lovely rooms and a nice pool area. They also offer massage on site. And they seriously have the best cleaning service I've ever seen. They even wash the chairs and the windows every day - and they fold your clean towels into beautiful figures of hearts and elefants, decorated with fresh flowers.

Unfortunately, this doesn't make up for the wind, the poor and overpriced food, lots of tiny ants in the room (do not keep food in your room!!) and the relatively high price.

The staff is friendly, but speak very little english, and they are many. 13 waitors standing over you when you eat isn't very romantic.

I did a lot of research on this website and a few others before I selected Cococape... and it lived up to all the expectations.
Sprawling property across different levels and almost an entire private bay, with no other resorts in the vicinity. Very scenic and landscaped in a very natural way... the resort itself is an exploration with various sit-outs, a split-level swimming pool, a viewing platform, where you can have your food, a really huge natural pool with fish and a lovely private pier too. The other advantage is that it has all independant cottages, ranging from a single room literally over the sea and taseful 2 bedroom cottages... to suit different budgets. The staff too are very friendly and efficient and no request was too big... from mosquito coil to ice cubes (since we had got our own vodka at the Dutyfree). You can enjoy a whole lot of adventure stuff like snorkelling, kayaking and the cycling trail or just chill around in the resort. The only downside was the food was just okay and a wee bit expensive.. but you could check out a few other restaurants like Bann Koh Mak and Rib Shak (behand Lazy Days Resort) around the island for lunch. If you're looking for a not-so-expensive peaceful and private getaway, this is it!
