"Worth visiting! write it down in your bucket list!"
We loved every minute of it! Clean and nice place to stay! You are in the middle of the jungle and I was expecting something less but the owners and staff did everything well. Rooms were clean, food was fresh and always hot! Facilities are top of the line! Thanks Buri hut!

We stayed at Koh Mak Buri Hut resort in March 2013. I don't know what it was like back in January or 2011-2012, but in March 2013 this hotel seemed nothing like it was described in the reviews below. Our overall experience was pretty good and we have no complaints.

We talked to new manager and found out that this hotel has been recently renovated and is running under new management. It seems new staff got (or getting) it all under control and doing their best to make this place nice and inviting. I would say that hotel is pretty new (according to the photos I saw it is nothing like it was before renovation). Location is great, sea view is awesome, our stay was very peaceful (just what we needed it to be). We were not disappointed at all. There are things that can be improved and we have no doubt this place will get better and better. We told them they should plant more flowers and plants - they said it was on their to do :)

Accommodation: Huts are pretty basic but nice and very clean. Yes, concrete but its cool inside and there is everything you might need during your stay including AC, fan and hot water. Bedding and towels are clean. Our room had sea view but I think all rooms have sea view since hotel is located on the slope of the hill.

Garden is pretty nice. There are flowers and butterflies everywhere. Birds were singing. It felt amazing just to be there. In-spite of hotel's far away location we had great phone and wifi reception (which was important to me).

Food at the restaurant was great! We ordered many things and everything was delicious. Chef seemed to be proud of his creations and came out to ask us if we liked what he made. I think it was nice of him to ask us if we liked it or not.

Pool is better in person then on the photo. Beach is rocky but it is still possible to swim. Waters are a bit shallow but that seems to be the case all around the island so not a big deal.

We were satisfied with our stay and if you're going to Koh Mak you should discover this place for yourself.

Room Tip: Room #1 has WIFI :)

I was disapppinted in many respects:

- rocks prevent safe swimming in the sea

- food poor both in terms of freshness and preparation; food prepared long in advance and left to get cold

- no effort made to keep thebeach clean

- understaffed

- overall design and layout of the resort was poorly conceived

- construction was amateurish and of poor quality; guiding principle seems to have been low cost

Overall, I would recommend Ko Kood over Ko Mak. Last year our group went to Analay, and it was superior in every respect.

We stayed two days at the Buri Hut natural resort and we loved it. The bungalows with TV and AC are very clean and have a fantastic seaview. The owner cares very well for the rooms, the garden and the beautiful swimming pool. The restaurant serves low priced, but excellent thaifood and international dishes. Canoes and snorkeling equipment are served gratis by the owner! We miss the time at the poolbar talking to the very friendly and helpful staff and other international customers.

First of all:

100 to 150 Baht for a dinner main course is not much. We don't know what one wants to pay for a place right by the sea, over looking the beach from a patio with a smiling, helpful staff serving you.

We stayed in a air-con african style hut and the price was very fair. But even the cheapest rooms they have has sea view and are well maintained.

The owners are very likable. They care. I (Marcel) wanted to prepare something for my wives birthday and they took it out of my hands in a nice way.

The resort is on a steep hillside above the beach. But everything is so close by and walkable with good stairways and ramps.

The breakfast is great. You can choose from a menu one breakfast dish per person. Anything beyond that is of charge, but you probably wont need it. Coffee and tea, etc. are abundantly given.

The pool is a hit!!! A terrace style water wonderland in a place of this price category is unseen (by us).

One thing you have to know:
THE PIGS ARE LOVELY AND ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Buri Huts. The hut was a good size and had air con which is a must in April! The view from our hut was lovely and looked out over the beach. The beach wasn't anything special however the pool was lovely which is where we spent most of our time. We were the only people there other than another couple which made our stay very peaceful. The owners made us feel very welcome and were really friendly. The food was good, if a little overpriced.
