The place is own By a helpfull, welcoming man who waited for us at the Pier at our arrival.
You feel like home in 2 minutes in this Family place. The ressort is very large but the disposition of the bungalows Make you feel in a cosy little place.
The 2 restaurants serves splendid food for reasonable prices.
The staff and service is perfect

What an amazing staff this resort have, many thanks to Nick at the reception and ladies at the Mini-Mart, and everyone in both restaurants and beach bar and housekeeping ladies and taxi driver... they wouldn't have been able to do more to make us feel like home. We highly recommend this place for everyone! We stayed in standard beach front bungalow and it was perfect choice for us. Beach was not too busy and it felt as we had our own private beach in front of our bungalow. Just perfect, Thank you Koh Mak Resort, you surely made our holiday run so smoothly!

Room Tip: Standard beach front bungalows are perfect for couples...

We booked 2 nights here and found the property to be quite ok . We did feel it was a little overpriced and found cheaper nicer options around the island . The front desk staff were very friendly . It had free internet at the main reception . It advertises free internet around the property , as do a lot of hotels but you find when you get there it is only in reception . I am sure on some good days you may be able to pick it up at the room . Breakfast was ok but the staff were not that friendly . A lot of mossies here so take some spray .

We were met at Makathanee Pier and taken to the resort for a swift and easy check in. We stayed in a deluxe bungalow which was steps away from the beach. The room was clean and bright with floor to ceiling windows which gave fantastic views of the beach.
The bathroom was of a good size but it was plagued with ants the whole week we were there. This was not a big problem for us as I just kept washing them down the plug hole.
The beach was described by the Times as being one of the Worlds Top 10 hidden beach treasures - yes it was beautiful, but there is real problem with sand flies and I was eaten alive even though I never lay on the beach! This would explain why the beach was nearly always deserted. Also there was real problem with litter in the water - every day I would be fishing out crisp packets, discarded water bottles etc and putting them in our bin. This is indicative of tourists not respecting their surroundings - I did wonder if the litter was being dropped by people on the Thai Fun Boat which parked up every day?
There are 2 very affordable restaurants in the grounds, both of which provided great service. However, breakfast time could be an amusing time to watch as nobody really took responsibility to top up supplies such as bread or milk, or even bowls. I watched as people went to get cereal but found no milk in the jug so went to use the milk next to the coffee machine. when this was used up, someone would then tell a waiter who then went to top up the milk for the cereal by going to use the milk in the jug for tea and coffee! On finding this empty, he then checked the fridge which also had no milk in it, so a frantic runaround then ensued for the next 5 minutes. I guess it needs someone to take control of the restaurant area as at breakfast time they were constantly fire-fighting because nobody was checking levels of food and crockery available.
The mini mart was one of the most spartan shops I have come across so if you're a snacker you will be disappointed. However it sold things like coffee, cereal, cans of drink, beer, fish flavoured crisps and cigarettes which was fine for us. The information point was fantastic and very helpful.
All in all, a wonderful week!

Room Tip: Commandeer a deck chair and sun bathe in the garden area instead of the beach. Go to Koh Kood for a...

For 1000 Baht you get a nice fan bungalow right in front of the beach, the bathroom is almost the same size as the bedroom and clean. There are many different type of accommodations to choose from, from simple bungalow to big houses. There is an absolutely fantastic poolarea with plenty of sunbeds and beanbags for you to relax in while looking out over the sea. Breakfast is included and it is a fantastic one, in addition to the regular stuff you can order eggs and pancakes any way you like it and they with cook it for you. The only thing I missed is a small fridge to have some cold water in. The main restaurant at the pool is nice but can be à little small during the peaks. Nick, who is working at the front desk is very helpful and don't mind telling you all you need to know about the island. I highly recommend you to stay here. Beware of the sand flies! They bite and if you are sensitive you can get some really nasty marks. Don’t miss the opportunity to take the kayak to the close by island of Koh Kham, the beach here are among the best in the world. The sand is like velvet and water doesn’t get any clearer than this. It’s a private island and it cost 100 baht to enter, you will get a ticket which can be exchanged from a soft drink. They are right now building a luxury resort here and when it’s finished you will probably not be allowed to enter anymore – so hurry up!

We stayed here one week and must say it has been one of the best holidays our family has had. Nice beach, very good service and the most important - calm and silence. We had a standard family beach front 2room bungalow with ac. But they also have and trendy bungalows and.even few villas. Even electricity is provided by local island's diesel powerstation, you wouldn't see a difference. Power supply was 24/7. A great way to explore Koh Mak is to rent a scooter from the hotel information center managed by a very friendly Austrian lady Kristina. She will give you all the information you would need. She also recommended Koh Mak Divers ran by Stieve and his team - a very nice german/ spanish couple. I had a scubadive experience with Stieve. It was worth of every baht paid. It really was like being inside National Geographic. Very much recommended! Nick at the reception is very nice and helpfull. Nothing is too hard for him. Well done! The hotel during our stay had 2restaurants and the bar. Food was of a very good quality. But anyway, do not hesitate to try local food huts even they look too basic, the thai food is excelent!
