Plubpla Koh Mak Retreat
Ranked #6 of 15 Hotels in Ko Mak
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 23 February 2010

We travelled here on a reccomendation from some friends, we were on Koh Chang and originally planned to travel down to Phi Phi, we are so pleased we chose Koh Mak and in particular Plubpla Retreat!
Both my girlfriend and i were looking for somewhere completley relaxed, slow paced and romantic, we got all of this and more!
I cannot explain in writing how loveley this place is, the only downsides to Plubpla are the fact it is very remote and the staff do not speak English. Having said that the staff really did there best and i felt ashamed that i did not speak Thai!
The rooms/small houses are fantastic, very modern with a Japanese feel, the entire front of the property is glass doors that fold all the way back, the bathroom has an inside and outside shower with sliding glass doors between them, my girlfriend loved taking a shower under the stars at night!
The main room is air condtioned and has a large flat screen tv with some movie channels in English.

All accommodations are linked by raised wooden walk ways, be warned though, after about 10pm all exterior lighting is switched off!

The staff and the resort is fantastic, when we arrived they were on the beach waiting to greet us, when we left they waived us off at the pier, we were very sad to leave our romantic retreat!

For both my girlfriend and i this was more than we could have wished for, we found the food menu to be very good and allthough the timing of the delivery of food to the table could be improved the quality of the food was fantastic.

We will certainly return to this beautiful part of the world, i wonder if they would cater for a wedding!
Thank you Plubpla and Koh Mak, lets hope this remote island does not get spoilt!!

we came for two days and stayed for six in the end.
There are some disadvantages, but all in all we loved it very much, so we stayed much longer then planned.
Here are the advantages:
- friendly manager, likes to help & improve
- most modern place on the island (finsihed in 2009)
- "remote" (10 minutes from the real beaches), so there were only 6 or 8 other people with us
- great infinity pool
Here are the disadvantages:
- not at one of the 2 large sandy beaches
- staff speaks nearly no english except for manager, but still very freindly and helpful
- remote: you need to drive a scooter if you want to go to another restaurant or beach (10min)
- no wireless

This is a fairly new resort and immaculate. The rooms are lovely - we stayed in one of the back ones - with great views. The bathroom had an indoor and outdoor shower! Spoilt for choise!

Aircon in the rooms and very modern with an oriental feel.

Great big pool overlooking the sea.

Good food!

Staff very friendly but had the feeling they are still getting onto their feet.

Away from any hussle but only 5 minute drive into the main area which is very small.

A great getaway island!

Secluded and modern resort with beautiful and clean upmarket bungalows, having air con and TV. Our beachfront room had even an outside jaccuzzi. Private beach, but not very snorkeling adapted. Great infinity pool!
Friendly staff, but poor service, probably more because of their lack of knowledge than their unwillingness: for example, the rooms are not cleaned daily, but if you ask, they tidy it.
We had a look at quite many resorts on Koh Mak island, and this one was for sure among the best values.

First of all, our holiday in Plubpla was amazing, so mostly i will praise it, but don’t be seduce it’s really great place!
To make something good it has to be not just a good manager you have to open your soul for it. Mr. Kwang the owner of Plubpla is that kind of people who love what they do and know how to do it for people not only for themselves!
With my girlfriend we spend 10 days on the island, stayed firstly in Big Easy, but when we driving across the island we saw most of all Koh Mak hotels, finding Plubpla by accident and I absolutely sure Plubpla is one of best on the island.
It’s truly ideally place not for all but for everyone. Trendy, new, fresh and warmly retreat where you can runaway from the world. I really love it, but don’t be a fool if you want to find something extraordinary or silly fashion house, or maybe get a high nightlife you should find something another.
Hotel. Plubpla situated outside another hotels, down side the road on the hill. From the hill it look like very little village. For the location, you can look from two sides, one side it’s very quit romantic (in the evening you can hear funny birds), from the other one what makes it good make it bad, cause from there it’s hard to get anywhere by foot (also everyone goose by motorbike).
Room. All rooms the same, it looks like small house with glass wall and it get a big classic king bed, 32inc LCD TV, fridge, air conditioner and two shower(one in room, another outside). Some with Jacuzzi.
Beach has a very good view, surrounding by rocks, clear water, you can see small fishes. Also for swimmers it’ll probably be not the best place on the island for swimming but it’s very easy to get to another beach by motorbike.
Swimming pool. For those who would like to take sunbathe they get a cozy pool. It's about 25 meters from pool to the sea.
Restaurant. The food is good also you can’t find something very special but everything you would like to eat will be good cooked and tasty. Good value for good price, much better than most of restaurants on the island where I eat. Breakfast is also good, but I recommend them to add a yogurts or some milk products to make it more different.
Staff. 5 stars. No variants, it’s the first time in my live when I found so many great people in one place. My best wishes for Sang, Gone, Tip and everyone from the staff whose get of our holiday a real pleasure. Only a little disappointment most of them don’t know English very good, but its great chance to progress!
Plubpla what mean little home for a kind, will give you a chance to feel yourself like a king… don’t miss it!!!
