“Glad we chose to stay here.”
Reviewed 9 February 2013

We loved our stay at Sea Breeze. I only booked it two days ahead, and found when I phoned to enquire that I was not understood, but when I emailed the replies were in perfect English.
Our impression is that the resort is fairly new and has been well built with good quality materials, everything works! It’s a shame no-one told them the fridge should have an independent electricity supply though. The panoramic villa we had was lovely and very clean. The resort is located amidst a rubber plantation, up a track from the medical centre, on a bay overlooking Ao Nid pier and Koh Kut. There is no beach, and the sea is not clear, but the view is fabulous, and the infinity pool is absolutely great.
The food from the restaurant was very good quality and we found to be well priced. We didn’t bother to go anywhere else. We had two loads of laundry done, and it was returned fresh and clean within 24hrs, again very reasonable costs. We did a morning cookery lesson round the bay, and took the results back to the resort where they were happy to keep in in their fridge and reheat it for me for dinner.
We only booked three nights initially, and looked around Koh Mak at other resorts to book another three nights, but basically decided we had made the right choice from the start and decided not to move.
Everyone at Sea Breeze was really friendly, helpful and welcoming and we felt completely at home. The only reason this resort doesn’t get top marks is that the restaurant and bar shuts up early at 9:00pm. We were OK to sit in the restaurant area for the wifi (entertainment provided by the numerous geckos!), and we were more than happy to sit on our balcony overlooking the bay and relaxing, but although we had our own beer in the fridge, as mentioned the fridge turned off when we were not in the room, so it was difficult to keep it cold. The TV only shows thai channels, but we found the English speaking MCOT expat channel entertaining, especially the lesson on how to shop at IKEA!
I'd recommend it to everyone.

We had a fantastic stay at this resort. It is nicely situated with a fantastic view. Far away in the horizon you can see Cambodia. The kitchen is great. You can chose between both thai and european dishes. Our oldest daughter is allergic and the chef managed to cook just about anything she wanted to eat. I strongly recommend this resort!

Overall a nice new hotel that I would return to. The pool is terrific. The only serious negative for me is that the wifi signal did not reach the room. Don't miss the track to the shore at the bottom corner of the garden (we found it after 4 days!).

Positives:
- Fantastic swimming pool. Big enough to do laps.
- Good wifi in the restaurant (& probably reaches poolside).
- No sandflies at this resort (big problem at some beachside resorts on Koh Mak).
- Good food in the restaurant. Great burgers.
- Very well maintained gardens.
- The bed was very comfortable (not hard as I have read in other reviews)
- Awesome air conditioning.
- Good bathroom, plumbing, hot shower, water pressure.
- Helpful staff.
- Very quiet and peaceful.
- Good new fully automatic motorbikes for rent at reasonable rate.

Negatives:
- Wifi does not reach the panoramic sea view rooms (but perhaps reaches the regular rooms).
- Arftificial wood flooring along poolside is very hot and slippery. Bad design choice.
- Resort is strangely in almost complete blackness after 9.30pm (take a flashlight!).
- Room needed a table & chair under the TV. Most of our stuff had to live on the floor.
- The road to the resort is a dirt track. Very slippery indeed on a motorbike in the wet, and needs improving.
- The staff would do well to clean up the rocky beach below the hotel, which is covered in litter.
- Nice big new TV but no foreign TV channels (Personally I don't care as I only turned the TV on once in a week, but some might be bothered by this).

Room Tip: The four "panoramic sea view" rooms have a nicer view than the garden rooms, and are just...

What a wonderful place! We arrived after a long day's travel from siem reap and were met at the port by the wonderful Noi ie member of sea breeze staff. The island itself is small and intimate and the sea breeze doesn't disappoint. Situated in a private setting overlooking a beautiful bay with private cabins plus the incredible pool. We were there in hot season and the a/c was well welcome. We have to say that we loved the staff and the young owners, so polite and attentive. We also made good use of the restaurant which we found excellent plus being really good value. If you want to get about to other bars and restaurents you can either rent bikes or mopeds - but as we were enjoying a few drinks the local pickup truck taxis were a great experience in themselves. The local Koh Mak divers whom we would also recommend can also be booked at the front desk which we appropriately did upon arrival. What a wonderful experience we had on Koh Mak and in particular the sea breeze. We really look forward to getting back to seeing Noi and the wonderful owners in the near future.

This place is fantastic, if you are looking for away from it all this is the place for you. Koh Mak is very low key which we loved. Nothing to do but read, swim, walk and eat (and drink!). Perfect! Sea Breeze is friendly, the restaurant is good and the village restaurants about 15 mins walk, the Italian run by a burly european (probably German) is great the bread lovely and coffee fab. The beach is about 25 mins walk and well worth it but dont forget the insect repellant as the sandflies are a real pain, daytime mosquitoes also a big problem in the village. Sea Breeze is in a fantastic setting with a beautiful garden with hammocks to laze in, looked after by a friendly hard working guy who seems to be gardener, handyman and waiter! The pool is lovely and view great and the sandflies dont seem to make it here. The room was lovely, panoramic sea view (great!), and very clean the only gripe I had which might put me off a bit going back was the very hard beds. I have travelled throughout Asia and India and haven't come across quite so hard beds - I had bruised hips bones after 3 days!! I recommend the management invest in some of those padded mattress covers as this would make beds comfier without the cost of new mattresses!

Room Tip: The panoramic sea view rooms are best but the others still have reasonable views.

We had 5 nights at Seabreeze and we were not disappointed.

The villa we had was the Sea View Room (not panoramic). It was not huge, but big enough, very clean and comfortable, a great sized bathroom and shower area. Whilst the beds are a bit hard, they are not the hardest we have had in Thailand.

We had taken a previous recommendation from trip advisor and requested room 9, but I think if you are taking a Sea View room, then room 5 is the best one. Its got a good view just back from the front villas, and is a bit more private.

The infinity swimming pool is fantastic. Its kept super clean, and its even big enough to swim some laps and get a good amount of exercise. The view from the pool is great, and lounging by the pool really nice.

We specifically chose this resort because it wasnt on the beach. We had heard about the sandfly issue on Koh Mak, and picked this resort as its grassed/landscaped, but you can rent a motorbike to get around and see the island. It was a good choice, the only time we were bitten by sandflies was when we went to other areas of the island to swim at the beaches.

Having a fridge in the room is also handy, and the aircon is available all day. The only glitch is that when you remove the key from the holder and lock up, the electricity goes off in the villa, which also includes the fridge.
There is a TV in the room, but there are only Thai channels in Thai, so that was a bit funny.

The cost of renting a motorbike directly is no more than renting anywhere else on the island, 300 baht per day.

We didnt eat many meals at the resort as we were out and about quite a bit, but the meals that we did eat were very tasty. The included breakfast was great. Lots of choices and good size portions. The museli, fruit and yoghurt was some of the nicest and generous in portion I have had.

Rooms are serviced daily and you are provided with 2 complimentary bottles of water.

The area where Seabreeze is located is close to quite a number of really great local restaurants, and also some local shops to get any supplies you may need.

The wireless internet speed is very good - we were even able to get a good signal from our villa. Not sure if this is the case in all villas.

The staff are very friendly, the owner speaks quite good english. The pool, restaurant and cleaning staff are all very efficient. We had several email exchanges about our booking prior to arriving, and all emails were returned quickly. If you want to correspond with the resort, best is via email, I tried to call to discuss our booking, but the spoken english over the phone was a problem, but if you email you will have no issues at all.

Overall there wasnt really anything we could fault during our stay. There are only 9 villas so its relatively quite and personal. We actually enjoyed not being on the beach, it was one thing we were worried we would be disappointed about, but it was perfect for us. Especially with the pool and we rented a motorbike to explore anyway! We would definately stay here again should we return to Koh Mak.

Room Tip: For Sea View (not panoramic) I would choose room 5.

This was a bit of a treat for us and we absolutely loved it from the minute we arrived. We booked the front sea view villa which was gorgeous with uninterrupted views of the bay and ocean - you can't see any of the other villas from this one. It's not big but suited us fine. We spoke to other people staying there and the villas set back a bit are a bit bigger if you need more space and all open out onto a lovely garden even if you don't have the sea view. The great thing about this place is that it's small with only 9 villas so very peaceful. It's not on one of the beaches but you can hire a scooter or get an island taxi cheaply easily enough. The infinity pool more than makes up for the lack of beach - stunning and we struggled to tear ourselves away from it. The food here is delicious and some of the best we tried on the island - it's also very reasonable compared to other places. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side in comparison but we made use of our fridge! The people that run Sea Breeze are very friendly and happy to help. A definite recommendation on Koh Mak which is a very chilled little island.
