“Awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

I have a really great memorable moment at Seavana beach resort. The suite beachfront room is so wonderful and private. It's ocean facing and just few steps down to the beach. All staffs are so nice and very helpful with their smiles. The private rooftop is perfect place to lie down seeing the stars at night. Foods from their restaurant is also wonderful. I'm really happy staying here, Seavana is great place for relaxing and get away from town. I will come back here again for sure. :)

A very nice resort and location, a quite island with few activities - this is the place to go if you want to relax and enjoy beautiful scenery.
Service was not consistent and some misunderstandings in the restaurant.

We stayed here for 3 days during our honeymoon. The resort i probably the best on the island, and we had a villa right on the beach with fantastic views and our own rooftop terasse. The beach looks great, but it has sandflies. Its not a maybe, its a sure thing and this is of course very annoying. But everything else is great. The restaurant, the pool and in particular the view. You can see koh kham (which is post card pretty) and you can even use one of the brand new kajaks and go there anytime you please. This is a great place for some days, everyone is really nice, and it's very much worth going. If it wasn't for the sandflies i would give a 5 star review in a second. One tip is to go to the end of the pier to the left that has a small bar at the end at which you can see the sunset. It's calles the pearl.

Room Tip: beach villas are great!

stayed for four nights at the Seavana. Considering this is classified as a B&B on TP, I'm not sure what else the lady that wrote the previous post was expecting from this place. Friendly staff, great food at great prices, clean rooms and tranquility. Wasn't expecting staff to bring me drinks at the swimming pool or beach. Sun loungers were comfy as they are made out of straw, and as for the workers, you try working in 37 degree heat?

overall a great place to stay in Koh Mak, no complaints and nothing but praise.

The friendly owners that other reviewers have referred to, were not at the resort while we were there. The resort was fully booked over that weekend so very busy. Nor did it appear that any manager was onsite so we assume that this is why our experience was quite different to other reviewers? It was very up and down to say the least.

The big plus about this place, is the location on one of the nicest beaches on the island. Crystal clear waters and nice sand. Lots of shells and corals along the beach to explore too. It was quite a paradise also with a view onto Koh Kham – a beautiful private island with a stunning beach. And in a nice quiet area too. This is not a party island - it is for relaxing and that's about it. Just what we were looking for to escape busy Bangkok for a long weekend.

Accommodation:
We had wanted to book the beach front suite but they were booked out so we opted for the delux beach front room instead as that was all that was available. On the last night, we noticed a suite had been vacated so we requested to change rooms and paid an extra THB900 for the upgrade. We were very surprised at how much nicer the suite was in comparison to the beach front bungalow, but only at a very minimal price increase.

Delux Beach front room:
Two queen sized beds so good for families with children. Nice shampoo and shower gel - organic products which are also available for purchase at reception. Small stereo with their own CD collection was a sweet concept. Outdoor shower was a nice idea. No black out curtains so difficult for a nice sleep in if light affects you in such a way. Bathroom lighting was not good especially if someone wishes to shave or apply make-up. No bed side tables or lamps. The two beds rested on an elevated concrete block. That may be hazardous for people with limited mobility and don't forget about that gigantic step when visiting the bathroom in the middle of the night! We found this particular room lacking in privacy especially on the balconies. Privacy screens would be a good idea. Our room had terribly smelly plumbing - almost unbearable at times. The bathroom sink faucet was wobbly and loose, the person who installed the hot water heater into the indoor shower must have been a butcher as it was a mess with holes left everywhere, toilet flusher was loose and falling out, the nice oil burner had no oil in it so was rather useless. We were surprised to see these issues in light of the fact that this is a fairly new resort.

Beach front suite:
A world apart from the delux beach front room. No strange smells, beautiful and directly on the beach with uninterrupted views, practical set up with the bed facing the views, tasteful decoration. Nice bathroom area with a large bathtub in a private outdoor courtyard. This room fits with the perception of bare-foot luxury that comes across on the hotels website. We did find it amusing that the vacated suite next door appeared to be the meeting place for the cleaning ladies - it took them a couple of hours to clean it dispersed with the odd song and dance and a nap on the deck chair. I guess they had nowhere else to go. We actually found it very entertaining but maybe other guests would object to this.

General facilities:
Swimming pool was very nice and had a fab view onto the ocean. The beach and grounds were generally clean but we were disappointed to see cigarette butts everywhere. And those butts appeared to come from the staff who freely and happily smoked in guest areas whenever they pleased and then happily flicked the finished cigarettes across the lovely grounds. Not a good impression at all. We are smokers ourselves but found this behaviour really unacceptable. A bit of training required so that staff understand that it is not ok to pollute this pristine environment so carelessly.

We were disappointed that the pool side bar with lounges was not in operation. All the cushions from the unused bar were thrown around in a huge mess which didn't look very pleasant either.

On one lazy afternoon, we watched as the gardeners did approx. 10 minutes of work and spent the another 3 hours napping, smoking (and of course flicking their finished butts onto the grass) and playing on their phones - right in front of our delux beach front room. An interesting study in productivity when the boss is away? Plus we didn't really appreciate that in front of our sea view because it felt like a general lack of respect towards paying guests. We have no problems with a relaxed atmosphere, but this was one step too far.

All the tables and deck chairs in the pool area, didn't have cushions so were quite uncomfortable. The eating area near the library, had a terrible sewage smell so we stopped sitting there. Public toilets - the soap dispenser was always empty and the bins in the toilet were overflowing (and this is not pleasant in light of the fact that you can't flush any used toilet paper into the toilet - it goes into those bins as is the case with many bathroom facilities in Asia).

Restaurant service / menu
They make the best Panang curry we've ever tasted. The Tamarind tiger prawns were also amazing. Steak baguette was also very good. Other meals were a bit hit and miss but generally good. We weren't overly impressed with the breakfast selection as things didn't look very fresh but it was very hot and we did arrive towards the end of the breakfast session so this may be the reason why. We avoided breakfast for the rest of our stay and just had an early lunch. During one evening, we were disappointed when we tried to order the tiger prawns and were told they were not available. Then we saw other tables being served the tiger prawns. It transpires that those people had booked full board and pre-ordered their meals. We would question why the hotel would not think to order extra supplies for those of us not on full board? Full board was only offered to Thai people and not to foreigners from what I was told. My disappointed was allayed the next evening when the staff offered me some tiger prawns even though they were only intended for the Thai guests on the full board package. I really appreciated that extra effort but still went away feeling rather mystified by this entire situation. Those tiger prawns tasted great BTW – the best I’ve had ever!.

Our other niggling frustration was that their wine fridge was empty apart from one bottle which was overpriced for what it was - a normally cheap Gallo but at THB1200 per bottle. We purchased it of course - as we had no other option. The only wine that was available, was cheap cask wine by the glass. The hotel missed out on a lot of revenue due to that lack of planning. Must point out that their cocktails are really good - some of the nicest we’ve had in some time so kudos to the bar staff.

We enquired about mozzie coils in the public areas but were advised that they had run out. Probably not a good idea in light of the huge mozzie and sand fly issue in the area. During our stay, they did the mozzie fumigation once and not again as far as we saw.

There was no food or drinks service around the pool. You had to go and order yourself at the restaurant bar. Again another missed opportunity to capture revenue and also an inconvenience for relaxing guests. Even when we sat at the tables right next to the restaurant (in library area), we were basically ignored as there was no table service there or so it appeared?. One day, we ordered lunch, ate it and went to our room. We came back at 6pm to watch the sun set and those dirty plates, salt and tomato sauce bottle were still sitting on the table in the festering heat. Not a good impression of cleanliness. I actually asked the 5 staff members milling about on their phones in the bar area, to maybe go clean the plates which of course they did straight away. Just indicates the need for constant management.

We had considered getting a massage but were put off by the behaviour of the masseuse who spent most of her time lolling around on the massage tables and having loud phone conversations and also shouting across the grounds to her colleagues. Kind of ruins that nice peaceful atmosphere that most people are on this quiet island for.

Reception
The lady at reception was nice and pleasant. She helped us to get a newer scooter to rent - that was much appreciated. When we had an issue with our in room safe, she sent someone to fix it quickly.

So in summary to this looooong review, we can say that yes this place is indeed in a beautiful environment, yet the service was just a bit too lax for us. No problem with relaxed staff but it was bordering on a bit of a joke at times. It was abundantly clear that the whilst the staff were all very lovely and friendly and were doing their best, they were missing the guidance of a manager. This gave us a few negative experiences and frustrations. The thing that turned it around for us, was when we moved to the nicer suite which made us forget about many of the issues we had experienced. Iron out the service issues and some of the maintenance problems, and this place would be perfect.

We are giving the beach front suite and the beach location, a "very good" rating. The service and maintenance issues are an "average" rating from our perspective. Maybe we got unlucky with service as the resort itself, is very nice. We would consider to go back again due to the amazing location and peacefulness of it all… but would only book the suite plus we would hope that the service issues have been tweaked a little.

Room Tip: Don't bother with the other rooms - go for a beach front suite.

Seavana was booked up and unavailable for the first two nights we were spending in Koh Mak. So we went to another place. But Seavana Resort is far superior on every count. That was what we found when we finished off our holiday in the most exquisite beach resort in Koh Mak!

Their villas are located a stone's throw from the sea and the beach. They are exquisitely designed with ceiling to floor glass windows offering amazing views of the water. The villas themselves are spotlessly clean with vitrified floor tiles. Bath towels and beach towels are both provided as standard. There is a kettle and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. A small fridge is kept well-stocked with a free supply of bottled water, full-fat Coca Cola and milk. There is an excellent shower plus a bonus outdoor one if that takes your fancy! DVDs and CDs can be borrowed from Reception and played in the rooms. There is also the luxury of a flat screen television if you wish to stay indoors. Everything seems to have been well thought out and catered for.

Spend your days in the sea, lazing on a hammock or a beach chair or of course otherwise there is this wonderful infinity pool with sun loungers. Take your pick indeed!

On the contrary, if you wish to explore the island you have the option of free bicycles provided on depositing your room key.

As for food, you will be spoilt by their DayBeds restaurant where service is excellent and the quality and choice is superb. Be warned however that their portion sizes are huge, be it even soup or salad! The cost of a sumptuous cooked breakfast (or alternative choices) is included, unlike the other place we stayed in.

Therefore Seavana Resort comes very highly recommended. Should we get another opportunity, we will certainly come back to Koh Mak. And of course there is no other place we will even consider staying in! No two opinions on that!

What a resort! Speedboat journey was really good, was met at the pier by hotel staff and driven the short distance (2-3 minutes) to the hotel. Free drink and souvenir wrist band on arrival. Room was 5* with excellent ocean views. Infinity pool in the sun all day. Would definitely stay here again when I return to Koh Mak. Wi-Fi worked all the time and the drinks in the restaurant/bar were not too expensive. Ice cream & waffles is a good choice!
