“A riverside gem...will stay here again.”
Reviewed 11 January 2012

My husband and I spent the last night of our Honeymoon in December '11 at this hotel. MyPond went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we enjoyed the large Honeymoon Suite which they upgraded us to upon hearing we'd abandoned the hotel we'd originally booked due to the lack of attention to detail. The Honeymoon Suite is huge, spotless and has a few surprises guests have to discover for themselves. We enjoyed breakfast on the river bank and dinner at a local fish restaurant right next door (although the hotel does have it's own). The staff were lovely and helpful. Would stay here again and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra and book the Honeymoon Suite...even if you're on your own!

I had been booked in a suite on the riverside of this hotel, which was a very spacious room with everything I wanted, nice and comfy bed, good bathroom with shower, a desk to do some work. The hotel is run bij students from the hospitality college of port alfred, nice to see how these people do their level best to get you a good feeling. OK sometimes it looks a bit clumsy but you can feel that they are trying. At breakfst I asked for a good cappucino, the girl said that she had never made one but that she wanted to try to get met what i wanted, took a while but then she served me a nice cup. With a big smile which showed how happy she was it worked out. Wifi did not work which is a pitty and they have to resolve that as it looks it is a reoccurring issue. I will defintivly stay here again when going back to PA

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are very nice

Was staying there at the end of June / beggining of July 2011 for four nights.
Nice, new hotel, great and friendy staff, not so good breakfasts. Most time not working wi-fi. Enough, spacy room, not quite efficient heater/air con - lot of noise, smelly and it can be freezing or heating only - and nothing in between. One awful story - door are used to be locked for the night so You should ring the bell or make a phone call to get in. Once - got back at 1a.m and was trying to get inside for 2.5 hours - and no response! Called friendly security agency, tried to get some help from local friendly police station - no way to get in! Had to take some sleep in the hotel next door, and came back in the morning. Manager was so sorry and ashamed, obviously they didn't charge me for that night, but also gave me another one free. So - probably just bad luck and lot of good thiings back. Would stay there anyway once again.

What a treat to stay two nights in a family 'room' here - two rooms actually, both with televisions and superb bed linen. Spotlessly clean, warm (ecofriendly geothermal heating) and comfortable with a real upmarket feeling. The riverside setting is hard to beat with the whole place opening straight onto the river bank. A sun trap to watch local birdlife and boats go by. Very short walking distance to shops in town, or a 1 minute stroll along the river to Barmuda (terrific bar restaurant). Many thanks to Hugo and his team for making us feel like welcome friends. We will be back when we can.

MyPond is definitely not an ordinary hotel. The decor is funky and the hotel is full of interesting quirks. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean and well equipped. We stayed here twice (on our way up to the Underberg and again when we returned). We also got bumped up to a suite on our first stay. The river side suites have an awesome view.

Stayed for a long weekend with my two older children in a family suite. Perfect size for us all, comfy sleeper couch(Im told!)nice quality linens. Modern chairs which despite looking really uncomfortable , were very cosy to sit on. Bathroom only had shower but it was a good one!
Conveniently located in a part of town you could safely walk to the shops from. Sadly the resturant was closed in the evenings(off season) but there is an Ocean Basket almost next door.Breakfast in hotel was okay...Friendly polite staff, happy to help with anything any time.
Only gripe is that the suite was located at the top of the main stairs down to lobby. All the floors had that shiney hollow sound so they should ban high heels! Also scraping furniture below us was a slight annoyance .Fisherman yelling along shoreline on Sunday morning also not appreciated but these were the reason why I graded the sleep quality so low- the bed was very comfy!!
