I returned to this restaurant after saying I would never go back but out of convenience for pre show eating we went. Service was prompt and friendly. Even though they where busy food
service was quick. Food was fantastic. Cocktails good as was wine. Only complaint I had was
the entree we had was too small to serve two one piece of toasted bread was a bit hard to share.
All in all it was a great dining experience and I will go back. Lamb was perfect medium rare and
my companions Salmon was delicious. Well done and thanks

Good first impression, looks OK and a friendly welcome. Menu OK. Told by waitress that because of football, three out of eight items were unavailable, at least it limited choice on the menu. When we came to order drinks we choose another sold out item so joked with the waitress that the manager should learn how to stock properly so as not to run out. In under a minute the manager arrived to tell us that he could not possibly be expected to cater for all eventualities, he could not possibly get anything thing else because it was a Sunday and basically we had no right to criticise. We were duly told, so knowing our place we shut up. So, the famous 'Garlic Prawns' (award in 2001) were served, seems that these prawns had been frozen since then, edible but less than special. The chicken liver pate could have come from a supermarket (in fact Woolworth's has a better flavour and texture). Mains next, three sirloins and a salmon. The salmon was good. The sirloins, providence known, were good quality meat, but when served were all well done, so the member of our party who asked for medium well was OK, the others that asked for Medium and Medium Rare were less happy, we kept quiet not wishing to be educated on how little we know about cooking. Deserts next, all good! The icky sticky pudding, a date sponge with toffee sauce was great.
So, the Witches Cauldron could be so much better BUT on this occasion, the manager forgot that as customers we should be treated with a bit more respect. When you know a major event is on you stock up AND you have a back up. It is offensive and possibly illegal to charge customers nearly 20% more for a set meal just because you serve it at dinner as opposed to at lunchtime. You may question the illegality but when you use the menu showing the lower price that could be taken as being the contract offer..... At best this was clumsy.

Visited the Witches for a business dinner after a long absence last night, I have been eating here since I was a child in the 80s, it hasn't changed, same menu and decor style, but that is not a bad thing. It is one of those places which is good to visit if someone else is paying, that way the prices don't get in the way of stepping back in time to enjoy some old school dining favourites.

They have a great wine list, with a heavy focus on West Australian wines which are my favourites, prices are consistent with other Perth venues.

For entree they do great garlic prawns, old school style in a sizzling pan, with butter, oil and a cubic mega-tonne of garlic, eat the prawns, sop up that awesome garlic butter oil with some bread and then keep it a secret from your doctor. They have made them the same for 30 years and they are just as I remembered.

For mains I ordered the fillet steak. It comes out looking like it is served in a country pub, sides of mashed potatoes, a choice of three 80's era sauces and a grilled tomato. The steak however is amazing quality, tender and perfectly cooked but it should be for $46!

The Witches is a perfect place for an business meal, but give it a miss for anything else

We revisited this restaurant after a break of many years due to disappointing meals in the past. I'm glad we did as it is a short walk from the Regal Theatre, where we has been for a show, and the food has greatly improved. Six of us enjoyed the meals we ordered, including an amazing fillet steak (herb crusted), served with a truffle mayonnaise - delicious. There were a few things that were a little odd, eg the shared seasonal vegetables comprised of sweet potato in a creamy sauce - no greens or other vegetables available. The shared green salad however was delightful, full of fresh ingredients.
