“Rural flemish charm”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

The restaurant is out of the way for anyone who does not drive, but it is well worth a visit.

The food is sophisticated but down to earth and the service is good.

If you are in Flanders anyway, I would suggest taking a tour.

For the second time I have had the pleasure to taste the art of cooking and this at world class level. Went there with high expectation and they where fully met, no, sorry chef, you exceed by far my expectations. Better is not available in Belgium. 3 Michelin stars are fully in line with the culinary experience.

“Exploration in uncharted territoy of tastes”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Our visit to this restaurant, one of the best in the world, has been a wonderful discovery of new exquisite taste combinations. Between the courses, we were served different little dishes, the one even more surprising and delightful than the others.

“A Composer of Flavours”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Chef Peter Goossens is often referred to as one of the Godfathers of modern Belgian cuisine and is a master of contemporary culinary artistry. At his restaurant Hof van Cleve, situated on a farm in Kruishoutem at the edge of the Flemish Ardennes, he has been dubbed “a composer of flavours” thanks to his purist and highly creative compositions.

On arrival, Hof van Cleve looks like any other farmhouse in the area with freshly ploughed fields surrounding the house. Entering the building, visitors are led through what was clearly the farmhouse’s previous veranda, into the minimalist dining room with crisp white walls and terracotta floors, with the few accents of colour coming from the contemporary Belgian art adorning the walls.

Sommelier Pieter Verheyde leads Chef Peter’s front of house team and it is evident that he shares the same philosophy, having gone through an extensive process to source some unique wines for their cellar and during our dining experience, the wines selected with each dish of our exceptional seven course tasting menu continuously surprised us.

What characterises Goossens' cooking is his intricate yet easy to understand techniques. Tied to the produce of the North Sea and his immediate surrounding region, Goossens is a master in the use of unusual combinations. Yet, these are always used in subtle ways. Amongst one of his most impressive dishes is ravioli of ox cheeks and langoustine with Paris mushrooms and Piment d'Espelette (a variety of chili pepper). What seems like a wild combination of very different flavours is in reality a well-balanced culinary tour de force.

Goossens’ food and attention to detail ensures that the meal comes close to perfection. If you have the chance to dine there, do not miss it.

“The very best in Belgium”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

It's always a pleasure to dine in teh very best restaurant in the region currently serving the very best culinary experiences in the world (sorry for emphasising the latter... it just is :) ).

Yes it's pricy... but you are treated as royalty in return by a young and gitty folk of staff.

While the tasting menu is the must-take when visiting for the first time, more experienced go-ers will agree that going for the a la carte options creates unbelievable meals.

I would recommend the slow roasted beef-cheeks with langoustine and any dish with sweetbreads.

What a mighty place.
