“Spring time outdoor adventure”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

Auberge le Baluchon offers a huge property to enjoy a great number of outdoor activities on a series of islands in the middle of Riviere du Loup. Hiking, taking a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, or just relaxing on a sunlit patio are some of the things to do. The resort is very eco-friendly, and it pays to be fit (no elevators) especially after enjoying a wonderful table d'hote meal in their big dining room. Resort building are spread out, but joined by well-maintained hiking paths or roads.

I brought my fiancé there for her birthday and we stayed for one night. The site is beautiful, lots and lots of stuff to do, but we only wanted a great dinner (go in restaurant review for our review) and to go hike. The room was great, we really enjoyed it. The time of the year was probably not the best, the one day it was sunny it was full of HUGE fly and the next day it was rainning, it was full of mosquito!!! Awesome experience. Beautiful site to see!

Just came back from spending one night at the Auberge. A large resort with picturesque grounds and a lot of place for walking and taking pictures - very impressive. We took the deluxe room but were surprised to find it only mediocre and in dire need of updates - old carpet, outdated bed covers and curtains. When making reservations, we were told that there was a fireplace in the room. However, it is artificial. Also, curtains were transparent and everything was open to the eye from the outside!! However, the bathroom was modern and had a large jacuzzi for 2 - a big plus for a romantic getaway. No fridge in the room. However, there is a restaurant and a cafe with excellent meal choices and snacks.

Restaurant deserves a special note - it is very rare to have such a delicious meal with many-many choices and spectacular service. This is the main reason why we would come back. If you are looking for a place with outstanding cuisine, then you should definitely go!

There are also hot tubs in every building and a spa - make sure to reserve in advance because it is very popular. Another plus is an activities center - we took a close-carriage horse ride which was excellent and gave us an opportunity to take many great pictures.

We paid $500 for one night which included the room and the meals - I think this price would warrant more luxurios amenities. Other than that, the place is great for a getaway. Cell phones have no reception there which is perfect to get away from it all!! :)

My boyfriend and I just came back from a 2 night stay at the augerge Le Baluchon and we really enjoyed the experience. I would recommend it without a doubt.

The package included a two night stay in a standard room, two diners and 2 breakfasts for the price of 612$ (306$ each).

The staff was great: very polite and courteous.

The Baluchon is composed of 5 buildings. We stayed at the Archipel. Each hotel has its own spa and sauna and the auberge de l'Île, which is the older one, also has an interior pool and a small gym (one stationnary bicycle, one "tapis roulant" (stationnary running), and one gym equipment that combines many exercises). It's a very small gym. The pool is small but very nice and clean with a turbo jet. We didn't take any massages since there was no availability (you should book in advance if you want to make sure to get one).

Our room at the auberge de l'archipel was clean (but the carpet, the furnitures and the quilts were a little bit worn off), very quiet (the air conditioning made a little noise but it didn't stop by itself like in other hotels so after a while, we didn't notice it anymore). We did not hear our neighbours at all. The room is quite large (approximately 27m2) with 2 queen bed (no king available). The bathroom is spacious but ordinary. The bed was very confortable. The room was not modern at all but old fashion. However, we felt comfortable and cozy. The tv doesn't have many channels (TVA and TQS) but you can always rent a movie at the reception for free (most cassettes were already rented so did not have many choices).

There are many outdoor activities proposed there but since we went there to get some rest, we didn't try any of them (but I saw that it was very well organized). The Baluchon is located in the middle of the country and the sightseing is beautiful. There is a rive that runs near the buildings.

The restaurant was a large room divided by many screens. It's not a pretty restaurant but it is confortable. The food was good but sometimes, the portions were small (e.g. the pork). The Sunday brunch was very diversified (pastas, veal, chicken, salmon, cheeze, eggs, snails, ham, saussages, etc.). I would not say that the food was the most refined I ever had (not a four stars) but it was good and tasty and we enjoyed our experience.

I would recommend this place to couples or to a group of girls who want to be pampered at the spa. I intend to go there again.

Bravo!
