“Great.....but the walls...”
Reviewed 17 March 2014 via mobile

Great location in the corner of the village, a walk away from the lively thoroughfare of Market Street. Lovely looking converted school house/church. Beautiful at night too. Great restaurant with good deals. Nice sitting area/bar also.

Only criticism is the thinness of the walls and ceilings. Doesn't make well for a lye-in, THEN the church bells start. The only reason I wouldn't go back.

Superb service. All staff very professional and friendly. Thought we might be offered a limited menu being on wowcher but no, delicious food from a varied menu. Delightful hotel full of character. Room 14 (radiator and lamps all working fine). Yes you could hear the neighbours but I have never stayed anywhere where you can't! Loved it... would definitely stay again. Thankyou

Just returned 9th March 2014 after a weekend Wowcher deal at the Chequers. Great value for money at £129 for 2 nights bed, breakfast and 2 course evening meal. The breakfasts was plentiful and hot, while the evening meal was very good in a nice restaurant with lots of choice. Staff friendly and helpful and worked really hard. The hotel nice although Dalton its self a little run down but good base for Windermere and surrounding area. We would stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms 6,7,8,9 and 10 are on first floor and probably better.

Just returned from a lovely break at the chequers. Fantastic value through Wowcher.
I stayed there with my husband, 2 year old son and my parents and we were all very impressed.
Everywhere was clean and well maintained. All of the staff went out of their way to help you and were very friendly. They were great with my little boy and made a great fuss of him which he loved!!
We enjoyed a delicious evening meal and breakfast both days. Plenty of choice and great quality too.
We will definitely be returning soon :)

We have just returned from a nights stay here (family of 4) and overall it is a nice place but can't help feeling our experience could have been better.
Staff are very nice and friendly, however some definately require some basic training in the restaurant department, we ordered a bottle of wine with our evening meal which was just plonked on the table and left without even unscrewing the top or offering to pour the wine for us which I have never in my life experienced anywhere before, but the food was nice.
The room was nice and cosy on arrival, with a real homely feel.
But the noise levels were terrible. We were downstairs in room 11 and the noise from the room above was ridiculous, mainly i think because they have laminate floors throughout, we could hear occupants moving around for about an hour whilst we were trying to get to sleep, carpet would definately improve this. We were also woken at about 2am by people in the room next door having sex! Which isn't great when you've picked a family room, trying to explain to your children what is going on. So improvements in sound isolation definately need to be made.
We stayed in a travelodge at the side of a dual carriageway for half the cost the previous night and had a more enjoyable undisturbed nights sleep.
This was a birthday treat for my wife which in General was ok, but when staff don't open/pour your wine at the table and you get disturbed sleep it does unfortunately tarnish the experience which is frustrating as these are basic requirements at this rating.

Took my husband for a birthday break. Staff were friendly but although I'd asked for a nice room we were given room 14 which was up some pretty dingy stairs. Room itself was nice enough although cold as the radiator didn't work and the light on the dressing table also didn't work. Mixed reviews of the food, some really nice but battered fish soggy and sea bass came in a different sauce than described which was really rather unpleasant! As I say staff friendly but could do with some training-not great ordering a thirty quid bottle of Chablis to have if plonked on the table without the offer of pouring it! Also long waits between courses. Oh and asked for a candle on my husbands desert but they didn't have any?!?The brown cow pub next door is a must if you do go here
