“the nice part of barrow?”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

I stayed here on a business trip. The hotel is in a pretty location but not good if you don't have a car. My room was a little odd - added onto the side of what seemed like the kitchen area, and up some very rickety steps.

All staff were friendly and helpful - plentiful breakfasts, which is always a high point for me personally.

I'd stay here again, but would make sure I arrived by car and requested a different room.

Some time since we stayed here. Food stunning as always with an unusually exotic menu options.
Stayed in Room 11 because the hotel was full - just a touch less luxurious than the Ritz style in the main hotel. Perfectly acceptable particularly with the 7 foot wide bed. Breakfast was again the usual high standard with very friendly staff, management, fellow residents and the locals. Pick a weekend when there is a dance on and you are guaranteed great fun.
Thoroughly recommended kids and dog friendly too.,

Room Tip: Main hotel rooms for Ritz style luxury.

We rang the hotel to ask if they had disabled friendly rooms available and were assured yes they had all on the ground floor with easy access to all hotel facilities. The room was in a cottage with a step at the front door, the door was too narrow for a wheel chair, the shower was over the bath and no handles on a too low toilet. Our wedding we were attending was some distance from the main building. This was a nightmare to get to, wheelchairs don't run on chippings, large steps everywhere.
The staff were very helpful and concerned. They did everything they could to help my wife except for the lady on reception who sat in her chair insisting the hotel was disabled friendly and there was ramps to get into rooms which no one could find. People in wheel chairs or crutches are in them because they can not walk far, climb high steps or climb into a bath.
The wedding, the meal, the staff and room were faultless but PLEASE DO NOT SAY YOU ARE DISABLED FRIENDLY WHEN YOU ARE NOT IT IS NOT FAIR ON DISABLED PEOPLE.

Room Tip: Good rooms in cottages if you are not disable. IF YOU ARE DISABLED DON'T GO

We turned up on a Friday night when the hotel gets taken over by locals for a carvery, which is a weekly affair. My partner and I were bemused and did not know what to do in the restaurant. The choice of food was reasonably extensive but lacked much choice of fish or vegetarian food, though it catered well for the carnivore.
The whole place seemed spotlessly clean and well looked after with a lot of thought going into what guests might want. The hotel owner was at the cash desk when we left and she had ample reason to be proud of the place.
It is the only hotel I have ever been to that provides, blue berries, raspberries and walnuts with an extensive choice of breakfast cereals and fruits. There is of course a full cooked breakfast too. If in Furness recommended.

This place just blows me away, the steaks cooked to perfection, the waiters polite and courteous and all in a wonderful environment.
If you haven't been here you owe it to yourself to visit.
The staff cannot do enough to ensure your visit is first class, nothing is missed out, absolutely faultless.

My husband and I booked a night here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This hotel has an excellent reputation and we weren't disappointed.
Our room (1) was lovely and comfortable with plush country house decor. We sat in the immaculate gardens and enjoyed a few drinks.
We had the carvery which was superb - gorgeous and plentiful. The dining area is beautiful with quality tableware and linen. We treated ourselves to champagne ( although not the most expensive bottle which is £150).
The breakfast the following morning was the best we have ever had - I recommend the Eggs Benedict.
All the staff were friendly and very polite.
