We stayed here for a visit to Perugia, all of the hotels in the town being booked (it was the week of the Umbria Jazz Festival). This is not a fancy hotel and we had some initial trouble surmounting the language barrier to arrange to get the air conditioning going and to find a way to get to Perugia (more about that below). But ultimately we came to appreciate that the rooms were very good value, as we booked a single and a double at economical rates and were given two triples. The facilities met all of our needs, and the breakfast was not too extensive but pleasant.
This hotel is a 5-minute walk from the Ponte San Giovanni train station, from which trains run every hour or so (on an irregular schedule) to the Perugia station; it's a ride of no more than 10 minutes, and from the station you can catch a bus into the center of the city. One ticket covers everything for around 2 euros, whereas (as we also discovered) a taxi to Perugia will run you more like 20 euros. If you have time, from the same station you can also take a train back the other way to Assisi. Thus there's a tradeoff between staying in Ponte San Giovanni, which is inexpensive and has good connections, and staying in Perugia where you can walk out of your hotel right into the narrow streets of the old city.
