Found the Royal Oak through the trusty Alastair Sawday website. used the hotel for one night when doing business in nearby Newbury, stayed with husband and business colleague. It was such a find. the hotel is a bit hunting set (think owned by lord of the manor) but very good combination of pub, restaurant and hotel.
Rooms were bit chintzy but in a very well done way, and charming because they had individual personality and quality furnishings. bathroom lovely with great unique toiletries. Weird having your own gun safe!
Bar was great with quality real ales and nice atmosphere, felt like you really could just go in for a drink.
We ate there and food exceptional with really knowledgeable and friendly staff, great wines. They even gave us a jug of real milk for tea in our room.
Breakfast was another gastronomic treat with quality produce.
The price was very good, think we paid about £85, for the location and quality this was very good value.
On our list to find a reason to be back in that neck of the woods just to be able to enjoy the hotel again.

Room tip: Cant remember room name but think all will be good, ours overlooked lovely rear garden so nice and quiet but this is village setting so shouldn't imagine ever a problem.

We have stayed here on several occasions over the past few years, last time being 2 weeks ago when we decided to book in last minute for a night on our way back from a stay in Oxford. We received a warm welcome, a beautiful room and dinner was divine, supplemented by impeccable service by the staff. We used to always stay here and dine at the Pot Kiln, which we also recommend, however, now we believe no visit to Newbury or the surrounding area is complete without dining at The Royal Oak! We will come again, and again.

This is our third visit to the Royal Oak at Yattendon and its definitely worth a detour. The service is outstanding, I just wish some 4 and 5 star places could offer the same standard of service as this.
It's a classic English country pub with rooms. Several specials on the board as well as a good menu. We go the food but the staff really want you to enjoy your stay, and the food. We will be back. Nice local ales on draught.
Really nice garden, if only the English weather would oblige.

We can't rate the place enough. We had our wedding reception at the Royal Oak 23rd June 2012. When we were looking for a venue we had a meal at the royal oak and we're so impressed with the food and the warm and friendly staff that we just had to have it there.

When we arrived at the Royal Oak after the service we were so delighted at the effort the staff had put into decorate the place, it looked amazing. We had a sit down meal for 59 guests. The food was fantastic. Everyone worked so hard to make it an amazing day.

We also stayed a few nights and all the rooms are decorated to a high standard.

Well worth a meal, to stay or to celebrate a special occasion. Worth every penny!

We used to lunch frequently at the Royal Oak, more years ago than I care to remember, and finding ourselves in the area decided to see if it still matched up to memories past. It did. The food, the service and the ambience were as good as remembered. Very pleasant and enjoyable. I just wish that we had maintained ourselves as well over the years.
