“charming, old-style hotel near Le Mont St. Michel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

We stayed one night in a deluxe room and it was charming. The room was furnished in old style, wood ceilings beautifully painted, the room was spacious, very comfortable and quiet. The hotel is a former mansion in old style and beautifully ranked with ivy, and has a small garden. The hotel provides parking in a garage for 5 Euro/night or there is free public parking very close by with no problem to find a free parking lot. It is an excellent starting point to explore Le Mont St. Michel (10 minute drive) - especially if you want to be there early and avoid the long queue to enter the abbey.

This old world hotel keeps some of its roots in the creaking old staircase that winds up to the top. It adds to the charm this place has which is part of the appeal. The hotel is still in the process of upgrading some of its rooms because my family and I were split between two rooms. One had newer lighting, wallpaper, and bathroom fixtures while the other had the older 70s look. The beds were quite firm, which is not my preference but may be to others. They were also quite short, and me at 6 feet tall with my feet off the ends shows how short it is. If I were to lie down with my head against the wall then my feet would be on the bed.
I seriously congratulate this hotel on being the first since I arrived in France to provide actual bars of soap instead of relying on liquid shower gel.
The rooms are sizeable and very clean, I have no complaints about the state of the hotel when I arrived. Ample free parking is located right around the corner but if for some reason thats full or you prefer to, the hotel offers an enclosed garage for your vehicle at a nightly rate.

The breakfast is a tad overpriced at 12 euros and provides the same standard fare I've come to expect from most of the hotels in France. A selection of breads, deli meats, cheeses, and yogurt.

If you're looking for a old time feel with more up to date rooms and a great location (only about 15 or so minutes from Mont-Saint-Michel) then I would recommend this place for you.
One thing of note. If you need a wheelchair accessible hotel I would not recommend this one. The elevator is the smallest I've ever been in, and there are plenty of stairs all over the place to get to many of the rooms.

Room Tip: Try and get the upgraded king rooms if you can. They're quiet and large.

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely old hotel - mainly to visit Mont Saint Michel, of course.
The rooms were individual - no generic décor here - and comfortable enough. Love a place with character, like me? This hotel had it, even the hall floor boards squeaked. Excellent value cafés for quick dinner down the street. Full breakfast one morning was a treat @ €11; a nearby bakery sufficed the other morning.
We were 2 couples on a road trip let down by hotels.com on a booking made one morning, that we were not aware was not confirmed until we arrived at the hotel in the evening. We were on the road all day with no data to receive email telling us no rooms were available - fortunately, there were rooms available and the gentleman on hotel desk honoured the price at which we'd tried to book. Would stay here again (but book direct next time).

Room Tip: Our room was up one flight of stairs with a pleasant view of the courtyard.

Excellent hotel! Great service, wonderful breakfast with variety of cheeses, cold cuts, cereal, fruit, eggs, etc. We had a big room and a bathroom with very good jacuzzi and modern shower. Nice sofa in the room, very comfortable bed, spotless clean. Plenty of free parking - very important! The area is nice with little shops and places to eat and it is less than 6 miles away from Mont St.Michel. I would suggest travellers with cars to visit Saint Malo - amazingly beautiful town with a lot of history and stunning sea coast views. Everything was perfect. We had no problems with the carrying the luggage, I do not even remember whether there is an elevator or not.

The staff were patronizing and the rooms overpriced. The man at the front desk was curt and rude. After one night we didn't want to stay and be subjected to more snobbery and went across the street where they were very friendly.

Room Tip: Go across the street or to any other hotel.

A wonderful location close to Mont St Michel. The staff were friendly and obliging making our stay memorable. The breakfast was superb provided in a beautifully presented historic dining room and evening drinks after a day of sight seeing were most welcome served with old world charm.

The building is really interesting , a very old building renovated as an hotel with a lovely garden

Thats also one of it's weak points. The room I had was really odd, had to go down one flight of dangerous stairs for a cramped toilet.

Pontorson itself is a quiet little town, don't expect much activity or restaurants opened very late.

The morning breakfast was nice, as would be expected from that category of hotel

Most of the staff were very nice, the front desk one was grumpy.

Best for a one night stop for Mt St Michel. A short 10km drive. There is easy parking all around in the street and a parking lot in the back.

NOTE: NO Air conditioning. IN that part of france, it is not often needed, but while I was there there was an heat wave and it was really hot.

Room Tip: Visit the room before committing.
