Nothing out of the ordinary but a very comfortable and professionally run hotel that makes a good base for visiting the spectacular ruins at Hampi, easily reached by bus, taxi or tuk-tuk. A large and decent swimming pool is patronised by the children of the town's elite. And there's a reasonable bar. The internet connection was down for one of the days we stayed.

Room Tip: Hire a tuk-tuk for the day to visit Hampi.

My wife and I travelled to Hampi to celebrate our 1st Wedding anniversary, during Nov 27-29, 2010. A friend recommended staying at Hotel Malligi in Hospet. We had a most memorable 3 days staying at Malligi, and visiting Hampi.

The Hotel provides easy access to Hampi, Tungabadra dam, etc.

The services of the staff were thoughtful, courteous and helpful. We shifted to the suite-rooms on the 2nd day, and found both the regular and the suite rooms to be clean and comfortable.

The hotel staff helped arrange a taxi and a guide for our sight-seeing in Hampi. The guide was a local (one Mr. Prakash), who had in-depth knowledge of the area.

There is a small bookstore at the Hotel where we can find some rare treatises on Hampi.

In summary, our experience of the trip was positively enhanced by the service we received at the Hotel.

Had very low expectation when we booked this 3 star hotel to visit Hampi, and were pleasantly surprised with the entire experience.
The hotel is located in Hospet close to the city centre and approx 15 kms from the Hampi ruins.
The rooms were neat and clean, but bathroom could use some upgradng.
The staff were polite and friendly, ready to assist with our sightseeing inspite of a travel desk in the lobby.
The lawns are well manicured, the swimming pool huge and clean and the restaurants nice and cozy.
Food as of good standard both at the restaurant and room service.
We were happy to have chosen Malligi for our holiday and would recomend it to anyone going to Hampi

We were pleasantly surprised about this hotel: the staff was very friendly, the rooms were large and comfortable and of course clean, breakfast was pretty good, dinner was very good, so all in all we had a very pleasant stay. Of course we were here to visit Hampi, but this hotel was a good base. The location of the hotel was not very good, but then again, we didn't think that 'downtown' Hospet had a lot to offer anyway. In that case it is important that you can have a good dinner in your hotel, and that was no problem: not in a chilly room (if you chose to) but outside. Good choice, eventhough it has no charm whatsoever!

I had a trip to Hampi towards the end of December. It was really cool one. The trip was an effort to uncover heritage India and Hampi is the one and best location in south India. If you are interested in photography and sculptures you should visit this place at least once.

Malligi hotel is a 3 start and has all the facility to get relaxed after a long drive and the food that we got was superb. This is really true from my side and affordable. Go guys have a cool time

We did a bit of research online before visiting Hospet and decided that the Malligi was the best option for our requirements. We chose a standard room but we were upgraded at check in because they didn't have any such rooms left. However, the guy on reception was abrupt and not very friendly, and was almost suggesting that we should have been eternally grateful for the upgrade, despite the fact that he was only doing it because the hotel was full.

The room itself was spacious and fairly well featured, but it smelt very damp and we realized that this was because the bathroom had no ventilation so the moisture always escaped into the room. The sheets on the bed felt cold and damp and it was not a pleasant experience to get into bed! There was a card in the room advertising the free WiFi, which didn't even exist - you had to pay and use a fixed computer in the reception area. Also the view from the window was out onto wasteland, which was not a problem except for the fact the every time I looked out there was one of the local workmen using the area as a latrine! Not what you want to see when you pull back the curtains in the morning!

The next day we called in at reception again and met a different set of staff who were much more friendly and helpful, so it's just the luck of the draw really!

There were two restaurants on site, one of them was like a mix between an Indian and a Chinese restaurant, with two sets of staff in different uniforms wandering around trying to find something to do. But everyone was friendly there, more or less, if a little slow. We were very happy to discover a second restaurant upstairs from that one, and although it was probably served by the same kitchen, the menu seemed more interesting and the staff were much more efficient. The only disadvantage was that the seating area was open to the air, (but covered), so anti-mosquito spray was an essential! But we ate there for the rest of our stay and always received a warm welcome from the staff.

Overall, I think the experience of this hotel is down to how lucky you are with the staff on duty at reception and which room you get! Unfortunately I'm not sure there is much alternative in Hospet. We did see a very new looking hotel on the way to the railway station, (Royal Orchid), but I hadn't read anything about that one at all before our visit so I don't know how it compares.

the only sensible price for atay in hampi and hospet is the maligi house's old wing, the room itself good enough, the old wing building looks like a jail but who cares?
nothing around the hotel, so the hotel restaurant is the only choise also for dinning.
