The staff really is great & really try to make you feel comfortable. The food was tasty & very reasonably priced. We stayed only one night & chose a budget room on the road side. Very basic room like one gets as a private room at a hostal. The sheets on the bed smelled freshly washed and we fell asleep quickly. However, we awoke later on in the night itching because of invisible chewing things on the bed that left several rather large red itchy lumps on us both. The bites are almost gone on me almost 2 weeks later.

Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the experience at this hotel. I have passed on your comments and they will take extra measures by purchasing coverings for the mattresses on the budget rooms. It is important for travelers to always apply bug spray during hikes or when horseback riding to play is safe on all ends. Again, thank you.

Hotel Santa Fe was just right for my husband and me. We stayed 3 nights. ( We prefer small, family run accommodations, and we don't require frills.) The location is perfect. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains on the edge of the new Santa Fe National Park. The town of Santa Fe is an easy walk away, and the hikes in the area are spectacular. The accommodations were comfortable with hot showers, good beds, and air conditioning. It was quiet, the staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious. We would definitely stay there again.

After spending 2 nights in La Chia, a nice hostal at the top of the hill (too bad some backpackers have a nasty habit of leaving the shared kitchen very dirty), we decided to go downhill to Hotel Santa Fé, which has the best restaurant of the place, with Ariel, the dedicated cook. The rooms are clean, with all the needed commodities, the staff is nice and friendly, particularly so when you speak spanish. You're close to the river where you can go for a swim and collect grapefruits on the dirt road going down! A few cows were grazing behind our room, very bucolic... The hotel was almost empty the four days we were there, so it was very quiet.

Room Tip: Maybe the ones a little further from the main road to Santa Fé, for the traffic noise.

Nice little rustic motel. All basics are there but no frills. Walls are thin ( or maybe our neighbors were loud!). The food is very good. Be sure to order the hojadres for breakfast - the best we had in Panama! Ariel and the staff were great.

You do get what you pay for here. The staff was helpful, but limited in English...then again I'm limited in Spanish, but it all worked out.We stayed 1 night & had supper there as everything else in town was closed on Mondays. Breakfast is not served on Tuesday so we left early. It's plain but clean. Nice grounds and view.

This is a very simple, basic hotel - it is not a 5 star resort. You have to know that going in. The rooms are REALLY plain, but they are clean and comfortable. Same with the bathroom, no frills, but we had the best shower here of anyplace we stayed - plenty of hot water, consistent temp, good water pressure.

That being said, here's why I rated it excellent.
- The service. Some of the best we recieved in Panama. The staff is so friendly and helful! My husband doesn't speak much Spanish, but he had a terrific time playing dominos one evening with one of the staff. They are so down to earth and obviously so proud of their country and the Santa Fe area.
- The food. OMG! We ate all of our meals there and everything from the ginger fried chicken to the "Hojaldras" (Panamanian fried bread) for breakfast, to the traditional chicken soup, it was fresh, had a wonderful homemade quality and was delicious. I especially loved the salad dressing the chef made.
- Air conditioning. Simple window unit, but after a long, hot, muddy hike, it felt so good!
- The prices and value. For both lodging and food, you can't beat it.

Santa Fe is a beautiful area to explore if you love the outdoors and this is a perfect Hotel at which to base your stay.

Room Tip: Ask for #5, the shower is awesome!

It's the first hotel you see in Santa Fe and worth the cost - cheap. Note, this is a cash-only establishment, bring it; I don't think there is an ATM in Town. The rooms are tacky, but clean. There is a fan that we didn't use because the breezes were cool and nice. There is no hot water. The shower will wake you up if the loud trucks coming up the hill early in the AM don't do it first. The staff speaks no English but they are very nice and were patient with our pidgin Spanish. We had all our meals there, on the roofed patio that has a nice view of the surrounding mountains. The food was uninspired and inexpensive. The beers were the cheapest I've had in Panama. Breakfast was good. Service was slow, but that is to be expected.
Santa Fe is beautiful and hard to get to with only one long, steep, winding, pot-holed, road there and back to the PanAm Highway. I wish I could have stayed longer.
