“Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

We visit McKees regularly and have never been disappointed. This time it was the 7th Anniversary Dinner - a special celebrating seven years of service to the community. We've only missed one. Lovely food well presented with very pleasant staff. Nothing is too much trouble. All for £16.50 - where can that be beaten. Only gripe - a small one - is the difficulty of parking some times. Thoroughly recommended. We will be back in September.

“Very tired”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

We live not far from this hotel and do their 2 for 1 evenings. Good value but if busy I think the food suffers. The whole place would look so much more appealing if it had a facelift. Decor is a bit drab and old looking. Feels like you are sitting in granny's front room when in the bar and not in a good way.

“Awesome beef medallions!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

Had a meal here recently as part of a large family gathering. The staff were welcoming and attentive despite dealing with a big party. The food was excellent, although not perfect. The potted crab starter got the thumbs-down from most people and some desert choices were much better (and more generous) than others. But the beef medallions for the main course were fantastic and the 'Trio of chocolates' was inspired. The restaurant itself is clean and pleasant. The loos need a decent refurb and let the place down a bit. But overall, very good indeed.

“Great ambiance and value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Have visited this restaurant many time over the past years. Its nice, "comfortable" and welcoming. The staff are all first rate, and the younger members have obviously been trained how to serve correctly, the food is nicely presented and of good quality and acceptable quantity. The £19 for two meals is especially so (suggest you check the menu on line to ensure its to your liking). Drinks, about usual restaurant prices.Menu is changed each month, with varied choices to suit most tastes, plus, "specials nights" for example, fish, beef, etc when the menu revolves around the basic ingredient. This is an ideal location for a private birthday, anniversary, etc meal with a side room available if needed. Basically nice food, good service and a great old fashioned atmosphere , and judging by the amount of customers and a full car park they have it about right.

Car park OK but can become full at weekends.

“Inconsistent quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Four of us went for an evening meal, choosing the set menu of £19 for 2 meals. This represents good value but some portions were very small. The goats cheese starter consisted of 2 thin slices about the size of a two pence piece. The chicken in peppercorn, steak with red wine sauce, salmon with parsley cream sauce, chips and vegetables were excellent but the pork with apple and cider was overcooked. The banana cheesecake was an unappetising colour, didn't appear to contain any cheese and the base was soggy. The young staff are excellent and enthusiastic. House wine was good and a fair price. The meal was spoiled for us by a noisy party at the far end of the restaurant.

Haigs, Manager at Mckees Brasserie, responded to this review, 27 July 2014
We are disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy your meal as we have had so many positive reviews. We have taken on board the points mentioned and will address then with our staff, we are a small family run business so it is easy to rectify any possible problems as we have a small team of staff.

Unfortunately noise from other tables can't be helped, but when possible we are happy to move diners to a quieter table if one is available.
