Arriving at Le Chardon our first impression was very pleasing . Surrounded by rolling vine covered hills and traditional french homes. We parked easily in the car park directly opposite our accomadation how lucky were we.
Our hosts had seen us arrive and welcomed us at the door .
We were assisted to our room and invited to have a drink in the bar when we were ready.
Our room was clean and spacious with great veiws. After a quiet nights sleep we went down to breakfast a wonderful choice of healthy cereals, yogurts, fruits, juices and coissants with jam and butter. Yummy!!
Clugny, Macon, Tournou to mention a few local towns we discovered war memorials, chocolate shops, museums and art exhibitions. Further a field we travelled to The Jura mountains and the French Alps ( Mont Blanc ) .
Le Chardon provided us with a traditional French menu which was freshly cooked onsite.By the end of our stay we had tried almost every dish on the menu( hot satisfying and filling ) very filling good size portions. Nick is a great cook and his Baileys Tiramisu is YUM !!!
Rebecca took the dogs Chablis and Channel for a walk before dinner and invited us to join her.We had a guided tour of the vineyards and meet some of the neighbours.
We will be returning hopefully within the year.
Le Chardon is great if you want to stop for one night to tour other parts of Europe or for a relaxing short break.
Nick and Rebecca are friendly and fun to stay with ,nothing was to much trouble .
Thank you for a fabulous break!!!

Room Tip: Any you will only go to your room to sleep as sitting in the bar is very pleasant.

We have visited Le Chardon previously, and have spoken highly of Rebecca and Nick to our friends. This time the friends came too! We pre-booked all four rooms plus dinner, and arrived on a sunny September afternoon to a warm welcome and a few glasses of wine before going for a walk with Rebecca and the dogs up the hills and across the vineyards where there are stunning views.

We enjoyed another of Nick's excellent dinners before retiring to our spotless rooms for a good nights sleep.....

For breakfast we had fruit, cereals, yogurt, jams, and the best croissants of our holiday...

We all had a great time, enjoyed the hospitality, and hope to return for the fourth time very soon.

Thank you both very much, our friends really enjoyed themselves, it was a super break on a long journey back to UK from the Cote D'Azur.

Our FORTH time at Le Chardon and what more can we say except it's perfect.

I just wish we could have stayed longer! Nick and Rebecca are fantastic hosts who always make you feel welcome. Nick's food is fabulous the rooms are warm and comfy. It's a great place whether you are staying one night if driving through France or for 3,4 or more days if exploring the Burgundy area and finding great wines.

We needed a place to sleep for our journey to the south of France. This is a fine place for a stopover.
Fortunately we could arrive around midnight on Saturday. The hotel is situated in a tiny village about 10 minutes drive from the highway. You can park without charge in front of the hotel, which is convenient when you arrive late.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. The room we booked (big room for four) was shown, and that’s the check-in.
You enter the hotel in the restaurant where also breakfast is served. There is a small bar, which is also the reception desk.
The hotelrooms are upstairs and we got one in the center with views at the front (which we noticed in the morning). The room (Chardonnay room) is clean and had two beds, which are good and have good bedding (sheets etc). For our purpose we got two extra (mobile) beds. These mobile beds are not the best. There is one big closet, one chair and tables next to the beds, but no tv or airconditioning.
The bathroom is basic but clean: a bathtub with showerwindow, a toilet and a sink. We got enough towels and some amenities.
Breakfast is simple, but with real French fresh croissants and baguette! There’s tea of coffee, some marmalades, yoghurts and fruit. Unfortunately no ‘jambon’ (ham) or cheese.
One tiny remark: there are two Labrador retrievers walking around (who are cuddly), but inside the hotel there is a clear smell of dogs; you don’t have this influence in your room.
We paid euro 110,- for the familyroom including breakfast.
It’s a fine stopover address, but on our return journey we slept in a Kyriad (Metz) for the same price, which had four good beds, more comfort and a more extensive breakfast.

When traveling from Paris to the coast and then when moving back, my wife and I like to split the journey in two, more often than not staying at guest house in the wine region of the Rhone valley. More often than not, almost always now, our choice is guided by the Tripadvisor's travelers comment.. As usual they brought us to Le Chardon. What can I say? The comments fit the place and the place explains the comments. This is one of those rare inns where, as soon as you arrive and put your luggage down you feel as if you have been there forever. Nick and Rebecca are the perfect guests, they have that uncanny gift for making you feel as if you where long lost and found again friends. Everything is so simple, and homy, and natural, and, food wise speaking, excellent.
So we did one thing that, for us at least, was a first. We changed our schedule and stayed one day more. It was a Tuesday and it is the hotel's closing days. Nick and Rebecca just shrugged, showed us where the wine cupboard was, suggested a few nice restaurants around, handed us the hotel keys and left. Unbelievable! Le Chardon is just on the right spot halfway between Paris and the Côte d'Azur; now that we have found it, we will for sure be back and we recommend it to anyone. And please, if you ever get there, do not forget to say hello for us to Nick and Rebecca, you'll never regret it.

My wife and I have just returned from a 3-night visit to Chardonnay, where we stayed at Le Chardon with my parents, who have stayed several times before. We were a little trepidatious staying at a hotel owned by a couple of ex pats, but we need not have worried. Nick and Rebecca made us feel so welcome, it truly was a home from home. I cannot fault a single aspect of the stay - the room was lovely (we stayed in 'Pinot Noir' at the rear of the hotel), the common areas are spotless, and Nicks food is wonderful, quality bistro French using locally sourced ingredients. The faux filet was delicious, and I highly recommend it as its on the menu as a regular dish.

Nick also gave us daily itineraries so we could go off exploring. This resulted in a superb lunch in nearby Cluny, and a great drive up through part of the Beaujolais region on 2 days, to name but two. Rebecca accompanied us on a trip to the local Cave de Lugny where we sampled and subsequently purchased some of the local wine. Her advice helped no end.

The hotel building has been renovated to a quite superb standard, but sympathetic to the buildings origin.

I thank Nick & Rebecca for looking after us, and cannot recommend Le Chardon enough.
