“Waiting for Carrefour”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

We have used this hotel on many ocassions when returning from France (having usually stocked up with wine and smoked garlic from Cite d'Europe) as it is very convenient for the tunnel, the beach and the Dover memorial. The hotel has an excellent room for disability impaired folk and easy access to rooms. There is an associated restaurant across the road that generally (not always) does good food. Cars can be securely parked in a barn (with nesting swallows) if this is required. The breakfast is fine except for the croissants which taste a bit odd.

Room Tip: There are small but busy roads nearby- can be a bit noisy.

My husband and I have stayed there a couple of times and it was lovely every time! Staff are really nice and helpful. We often stop by the bar to have a coffee, tea, hot chocolate or a glass of wine when we are on the way back to England. We have not yet eaten in the restaurant but it is on our "to-do-list"!

We return to this hotel every year at the end of our Summer holidays. Location is perfect for popping to the supermarkets to stock up on delicious food and drink before returning to the UK ....and is just 20 minutes from the Eurotunnel and 30 minutes from the ferry port - also within a fairly easy drive to explore Belgium and Brugge .
the owners remember us each time we return and are very friendly and helpful . Rooms are generously sized, clean and adequately furnished - A generous breakfast is served in the conservatory area of the main reception - and evening meals are served in the very busy restaurant across the road (if you have not booked half board with the hotel then a restaurant booking is vital - we have seen many people turned away !) The mainly seafood meals reflect its location .

Whether a shopping trip or a longer visit to France, this is a perfect hotel to start or end your trip. It's near Eurotunnel and only 20minutes to the Port of Calais. Part of the Logis de France operation, this charming hotel is family run and shows great care and attention to detail. The rooms are a good size with modern facilities and very well maintained and the TV picks up all the main UK TV channnels. The restaurant across the road is very good and breakfast in the morning is served in the main reception area and sets you up well for the day.

Room Tip: All rooms in main hotel are very good but a room in the new block is even better

You secretly know that others from the UK have also found this little nugget before you. The number of cars with GB plates in the car park gives the game away.

We have stayed there for several years as a couple, with friends and also with our children. It does not matter what time of year one goes, in summer on the way south or north, a splash and dash booze cruise in late November to stock up in Calais or in autumn for the end of the picking in Burgundy. There will a little gaggle of 4x4s and estate cars and MPV's already there when we arrive.

The attraction is it is close to the crossing point to and from the UK, easy to get to, has a super beach and walks at the end of the road, ideal to get some exercise before supper after a few hours in the car. Chuck your wellies or walking shoes plus bag in the car before you leave to avoid the soggy and sandy shoes in the car problem on day one of your hols!

The rooms are comfortable, a decent size and good bathrooms where everything works as it should. The breakfast is always pretty good. Typical morning in France. Lovely coffee, nice breads and a choice of yogurts etc. which set you up for the morning.

Across the road is the restaurant which is the evening attraction for many. The seafood on offer is well worth trying and the portions are generous. The menu choices may need some time to consider, look at the other tables and see the discarded shells, broken claws, fish bones and the happy faces and go for it. If you are having a carnivore day the lamb is a good place to start.

The restaurant is both unpretentious and comfortable, after all you are going to be there for a while. Make it past the cheese and you have done well.

The staff in the hotel and the restaurant are very efficient and helpful. They always look as if they really do enjoy their job. Plus they have the constant entertainment of seeing the puzzled look of diners struggling with some parts of the menu in French. (It is written in English underneath as well, but that is cheating to read it!).

Always very clean and comfortable. Rooms a good size with modern facilities. Restaurant excellent. Perfect stopover when travelling to or returning from the south. We have stayed here many times and wish other Logis with same ratings are as good. Surely deserves more than 2 stars. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for one night and were delighted with our room it was spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant meal was also top quality. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. A large car park and with its location near Calais an ideal stop over.
