“Only one night”
Reviewed 19 June 2012

Only stayed one night and next afternoon. Here are the highlights: Room was very nice and comfortable with an excellent view of the sea! Well appointed bathroom. Elevator! (I'm young...but it's there for our readers who want to know). Breakfast was great with made-to-order eggs. The hotel is very attractive. So they have a sunbathing area that is really nice, the kids could run around if you wanted, though I think we were the only ones with a kiddo in the whole place. The indoor pool is very nice and they have a 'hot' tub which is a nice touch. The back gate leads to the 'beach' which is a few steps away. Typical Croatian rocky beach, with beautiful vistas.
The only negative is that there isn't anywhere to eat if the mood strikes. We were not planning to eat at its resturant b/c we don't like to spend a lot on food. We have a 1 year old, so having somewhere to just get something small for her was not an option. Though, not a deal breaker.
I accidentally thought I had booked for 3 days rather than one, online. So I was thinking the price I was paying was decent for 3 days. Realizing I'd only reserved for 1 day for THAT price, I'd say that this place isn't inexpensive. You can look around the area and find better prices in a comparable situation. In its defense, Croatia is very affordable, that is why my 184 euro for one night might stand out a little.
I'd recommend this place to my friends (who don't budget on food).

Large and modern hotel with good facilities. Food quite good but unexciting - nourishing but served in a very lage dining room - hardly romantic. Indoor swimming and spa and gardens outside with comfortable recliners. Being a small island, its slightly remote location at the extremity of the furthest north-westerly village is not a real problem out of season but the narrow roads MIGHT BE a bit of a problem in high summer!

Everything people have said is absolutely true. A jewel of a family run hotel. The staff treats you extremely well, and will communicate in whatever language necessary (we kept switching between English, German and Italian and it never phased them) to make sure your stay is memorable. Our party consisted of three generations - and all were happy. The food particularly impressed us - make sure and take the half board option. You will not regret it!

The lawn/garden above the beach was another pleasant surprise - plenty of sun loungers on lovely grass a few steps away from the pool / spa area and just enough above the beach area to be "above it all".

Extremely clean water, great for snorkelling. Also a good place for someone who can not walk far. The elevator will get you to within just a few steps of the beach. Krk Town is worth a day trip, we were dissapointed in Malinska. We will be back to the hotel Pinia!

I will not repeat the previously stated positive reviews - all is fully valid. So let me just add the missing points.
The village of Porat is located as the last suburb of Malinska and the hotel is the last building, so the location is ideal for anybody looking for quiet vacation. Car is a must to go anywhere else than to Porat.
Hotel is located just by the sea overlooking the beach of Porat - small beach, partly pebble (not sandy) and reasonably accessible to sea, partly concrete plateaus or rocks - usual for northern Croatia seaside. The beach is a bit crowded in high season, but the hotel has it's own big private garden with lounge chairs and umbrellas (not a problem to get one even in high season) with few steps to access the beach.
The best rooms have direct sea view and are very big (our room 209 was over 30 m2), nevertheless even the cheaper standard rooms seemed to be reasonably spacious. The sea is located northwards, so the direct sea view rooms don't have direct sun.
Wellness part - pool, whirlpool and saunas - is just perfect and makes the hotel favorable even for off season period.
Food was definitely above average (I can't say excellent just because of already having even better in France of in Italy) and fully fits 4* hotel.
All service provided was great.
The only small minuses were the lack of free internet access, the Rijeka oil refinery which spoils a bit the distant sea view (kilometers away), and the town of Malinska itself, which is just usual seaside resort - better go few kilometers away to see Krk town.

Hotel Pinia on the island of Krk in the town of Porat in Croatia is well worth the adventure rain or shine. The hotel is family run by several generations and they are most accommodating. They have a multitude of staff and the staff treats you as though they have a financial stake in your well-being and comfort. The family is hands on to the operation of their hotel and they take great pride in satisfying your needs. They speak several languages fluently. The hotel is very cozy and elegant. The features throughout are excellent in detail. I highly recommend our room 212 since it was one of the deluxe newly renovated rooms, it is more spacious than any 5 star hotels we have visited, the balcony is very roomy and the bathroom has more luxurious features suc h as bath, separate shower, towel heater, separate private room for toilet and bidet, it will not disappoint. They have a full bath looking over the tree studded lot next door and the ocean. The balcony overlooks the lawn and the pebble and sandy beach below. The TVs are very small and only show CNN for English viewing, but they have numerous German and Italian channels. I would recommend the hotel provide pay for view movies in English or extend more English media. However this hotel will make you spend time with each other and your children in a wonderful atmosphere. The spa is tremendous: the in-door pool is fabulous and very large with pillars, the jacuzzi is perfect and they both have a view of the ocean and many relaxing lounges. They also have a spa, 2 saunas, steam room, separate relaxing room overlooking the ocean, another cooler steam room and a nice exercise room with TV and updated equipment. The decking around the outside is massive with plenty of lounge chairs. The restaurant has fantastic food, it is wholesome, fullfilling and cooked to perfection, it is not that decorative small sampling artsy food. I love that type of food on special occasions, but when you walk all day sightseeing, or swimming it is time for "stick to my ribs" eating for the next days' adventure. Eat the fish everyday because it is rare to have consistently the freshest of seafood every meal. The chef is a master and takes great care in your dining experience. If you depend on internet for business while you are away, I will alert you to the fact that you can have internet connection for 3 hours at a time, but the management is quick to set you up again once those hours have expired. The price for this ambiance is fairly priced and the hotel in my opinion should receive 5 stars instead of 4. I will warn you about the fee you must pay to cross the bridge to the island Krk, it is currently 30 KN, almost 4 Euro or 5 USD estimated. So everytime you enter the island you have to pay for the new infrastructure, which is a good thing for such a beautiful location. When you leave the island it costs nothing. The rest of Croatia needs about 3-5 years to catch up with highways and infrastructure. Must see on Croatia is the waterfalls in the southern part, it is worth the crazy driving there on back roads. The back roads are difficult to get around campers and trucks when their is no passing lanes and there are hairpin turns. Take your time driving or go by bus. Once the infrastructure is improved it should take less time getting from point A to point B and you won't notice the trucks and campers clogging up the one lane roads. But please do not be detered, Hotel Pinia makes Croatia the jewel it is meant to be one day. www.hotel-pinia.hr
