Var Gard is in a beautiful setting on the Baltic sea. A very peaceful setting for meetings without the noise and distractions of big cities. There are many meeting rooms mostly with views over the Baltic and natural light.
The rooms are small and somewhat basic but so long as you don't plan to spend much time in these they are fine. I was there for a conference so this was fine.
The food was excellent, fantastic breakfast spread including lactosefree milk and yogurt, lunches and dinner were fixed menus of excellent quality, accommodating vegetarian and specific eating requirements as necessary.
Overall the experience was good

Room Tip: Rooms are small and basic, although it is in a quiet setting the hotel is badly insulated from noise...

Located outside Stockholm in Salsjöbaden Vår Gård might not be the perfect choice if you're planning to explore Sweden's capital. But if you like the seaside, or want to organise a (small) conference or a staff meeting or perhaps a family gathering, the place is perfect.

The modern main building with reception and meeting rooms etc. is attached to an older art nouveau style building with towers etc. and the excellent restaurant is located there. They also have their own bakery, yam. Breakfast is great.

The bed rooms are in three separate buildings. The rooms are rather small but very nicely furnished.

The is plenty of fresh air. The surroundings are lovely.

The staff is friendly and speaks English but strangely all the written information in rooms and in the restaurant is only in Swedish. The website has something in English but is more about feelings and ambience than facts (like if there's a haridryer or not).

It is outside Stockholm but Salshöbanan (local train) station is close and can take you to Slussen in the city center. To/from airport you will have to change to/from metro at T-Centralen and there to/from Arlanda Express or bus. It takes some time so it's good to prepare for that.

I have now been twice in this hotel for a conference. Good rooms, wonderful service and specially excellent kitchen makes this ideal place for companies to organize events. Nice view to the sea. Parking is limited when there is lot of people coming with their own cars.

The hotel is in wonderful place with grate view on inlet. Hotel consists from several buildings and looks like old fort.
Very easy to reach with train. And it's very close to train station, but far enough to not hear it.
The breakfast was excellent. The choice was very large, even with fresh juice and warm muffins.
The single room was not the best. It was very small and bed was very narrow. Bathroom was fresh and clean.

For conference organizers this is ideal as it is not so easy for participants to escape! The conference rooms are adequately equipped and wifi works well both in the main building and the annexes where the bedrooms are located. There is plenty of water and coffee is available at the bar throughout the day. The breakfast is quite good with an excessive large selection of bread (different shapes but not that different in taste) and cereal. There is however only boiled eggs. No bacon, sausage or other cooked alternatives. The lunch and dinner can be quite good but there are also misses. They will ask you if you would like to have wine etc., but if your conference organizer has not prepaid the wine or other drinks they will be charged to your room. (Almost 10 € for a glass of mediocre wine.) The bedrooms are basic and rather small; but it is rather cold even when the radiator is turned on at the maximum. My room is right next to the fire door, so everytime someone comes or goes there is a loud bang. Not very pleasant at all and this is the factor which pulls the rating of this hotel down decisively. The bathroom is recently renovated and the water is hot.

I arrived the day before the conference: this is not recommended. The hotel is about 3 km from the centre of Saltsjöbaden and there are neither shops nor restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood. The hotel bar only serves snacks and to get evening meal you have to use the same facilities as the conference guests. I had a duck breast with so-called risotto which is very disappointing and definitely not worth the 30 €, which they can charge because there is no alternative.

Yes, the place is wonderful ( I mean Salsjöbaden)
But hotel rooms are not 4 ****. May be 3 *** + the smell of mold in the building 3 is just terrible. The lavatory in my room were not cleaned properly.

We were there for a business trip, running a large meeting in the hotel facilities, and I was enchanted by the hotel's location and service. My room was small but very comfortable, well furnished and with a wonderful sea view. The small size was well-compensated by the comfort of the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and walking around the area during the meeting breaks was soothing. The common areas in the hotel are very pleasant, giving the feeling of a comfortable Scandinavian house. The wonderful landscape around the hotel also makes everything look nicer. We also used the restaurant and were happy with the food and the service. All in all is a place I yearn to go back to on a romantic trip!

Room Tip: A sea view is mandatory!
