“Very good choice”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

I've stayed with my wife for 2 nights in Riu Pravetz and it was relly good experience. My tips as follow:

Room: big enough, very clean and well furnished with comfy bed

Food: one of the best breakfast and dinner I've ever had (even the dinner was on block table it was fantastic). Plenty of every kind of salads, main dishes and tasty sweets.

Spa: very clean pool, big enough, it never was crowded, 3-4 different saunas, steam bath, relax room (too small I think-only 4 beds).

Activities: 2 tennis courts, bowling, very good piano bar with live music

I have only one downside but this is my opinion only: the alcoholic drinks were too expensive I think. But this is normal for all hotels :)

Very good location near Sofia, comfortable and stylish rooms, very nice Spa Center and fantastic view to the lake and the mountain. The food in the restaurant was tasteful. The place is very good for Spa holidays.

I had read the previous review and was a bit apprehensive, but turned out to be a really nice hotel. The location is really nice, on a big lake, and the overall hotel had a nice, welcoming atmosphere with a big lobby.
The rooms were nice and modern, with nice bathrooms and comfortable beds.
The spa area was impressive, with a wide array of different rooms and interesting stuff - as the previous review mentioned, a couple were not operational (a Turkish bath, something called a salt lake, and another that I believe was a mud bath; not such a big deal for me. They had two kinds of steam rooms, an ice room, 3 kinds of saunas (including one with herbs and was really nice), as well as the hot relaxing chairs.
The food was included and had a nice buffet, both for dinner and breakfast, with great assortments of food.
It's a nice getaway if you have a chance to go here and I would definitely go back!

Room Tip: For a bit more money you could have the lake view, but if you spend your time in the spa or elsewher...

Definitely Over rated hotel!!!!
Let start with good things. Food - Phenomenal! Best food i ever taste.Great veriaty, great taste View - great - but only if you are not on a top floor, which is weird. On a top floor guardrail was very high and when you sit on a terrace -you can''t see anything! Service was not on a level of a 4 star hotel. They act like you are obliged to serve them and not the inverse. At the Lobby bartenders are not very cooperative and nice! They are not willing to take your order or to bring it fast to you! I wait 35 minutes for dry martini! Night club was nice and cosy, but with very oldish songs - I was on a team building with 80 people of Romania and Germany - despise i specially ask for a little bit more dancing songs, the band did not have willing to cooperate. As much as i love BG music, 80 people from different countries did not like it so much. (and the songs were from mid 80''s and 90''s).
Rooms - very clean and nice BUT towels were ragged, and when you ask about new ones - they don''t have?!! Really ??!! Beside that where is the logic of TV in front of... Terrace door?! when you are in bed or on the sofa you can''t see TV screen in front of you, only size view...
SPA center - very good ideas, but not realized. Over have of the equipment and spa rooms - CLOSED! Only working rooms were turkish bath, 2 saunas, ice room and showers! They offered many different SPA rooms but they are not working! We were very disappointed!..

Over all - for this kind of money, we were not satisfied!

Room Tip: Ask rooms with lake view, not on the last floor! Only these rooms worth the money (sort of)

The hotel is situated not far from Sofia, about 50 km and has extraordinary view if you book a lakeview room. We choose Riu Pravetz Resort for our first holiday with out 2-months old boy. Despite it was at the beggining of October it was pretty warm in the hotel, not only the rooms, but the lobby and the restaurants as well. Rooms are spacious, beds - enormous, bathrooms quite good also. We were offered a baby-cot but we didn't used it as it was for older babies - it was with one level. We will definitely visit this hotel again!

Room Tip: I do reccommend a lakeview room.

I was invited to a conference which was held at Riu Pravet, so I had no choice of the venue, the category of room and other arrangements. Also the shuttle from the airport was fully organised. Needless to say, I did not move outside the 500 m perimeter of the Hotel.
When arriving I was positively impressed by the friendly, modern hotel. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the receptionist, by a brief “your passport please”, but otherwise she was friendly and polite. Subsequently all other encounters with any staff were friendly, in particular at the bar in the lounge opposite the reception. Staff were very attentive, polite and I was treated very courteously throughout the three night stay. While Thursday was relatively quiet, Friday and Saturday were much busier, with families staying and there was music Saturday night.
There is a large buffet moring, lunch and dinner which has a large variety of salads, mains, meat and fish platterand desserts. All food was of average or good quality, whilst the preparation and presentation were a bit on the basic side, following the style of Croatian or Greek food (the two only other southeast European cuisines I am familiar with). Wine is a red or white Bulgarian house wine of very good quality. Coffee from the machines (breakfast) is reasonable.
My room had balcony, south-facing, was impeccable, no sign of disrepair at all (which was reported by other travellers) and the room service cleaned and tidied the room while I was at breakfast. Ample space, tidy carpet, large, good bathroom, small TV (did not use it) and a large, comfortable bed.
For business travellers and those who want to use their mobile devices: The good: The speed of both cable and WIFI is excellent, I measured 50(!!) Mbit download and 10+ Mbit upload speed (shame on TalkTalk UK or BT who can bring only 5Mbit to London N1). The not-so-good: all rooms have cable (CAT5 only) which I brought with me ( having read one Tripadvisor report) but reception confirmed they had some spare CAT5 cables for guests, but this is bad news for those with tablets, netbooks, smartphones with no cable connection who just want to browse news or watch movies in the room. Also for those with a laptop who want to read in bed – they need a loooong cable. To enjoy wifi one needs to go in the lobby or outside, where there still is an amazing reception even down at the lake. The Wifi out there is as good as 4G or better!.
Overall a pleasant experience. I cannot comment on the value for money, as all bills were paid for by the organiser.

Room Tip: Saturday parties can be noisy. South facing rooms can get warm even in October. No WIFI (Cables only...
