“Great Experience”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

My experience of The Willows Garden Hotel was in one word Exceptional. Stayed there on the 15th till the 21st of October 2013. From walking into the Hotel all that i experienced was friendly and Helpful staff. Reception was friendly and helpful. Reading the previous reviews about the food of the Hotel i decided not to believe what i read and find out for myself and to my surprise the food and restaurant staff was great. Traveled and stayed in quite a few hotels in SA and abroad i must say the willows is in the same league as some of the other 4 star Hotels in the Country. The room was very standard but very comfortable, clean and spacious. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone all that you will experience is great staff good food and restful nights. Thanks so much for everything the Willows Team we will be back.

We stayed in this Hotel over the Aardklop weekend. The lady at the reception desk was very friendly but I do not think it is appropriate to eat crisps at reception and have your family and friends hang around the counter. Our room had a very strange lay out with a huge space on entry and then the beds and chairs all squashed at the back?? The bathroom is very old and it was quite a challenge to take a shower. The channels on the TV did not work and after reading other reviews we did not even try the aircon. All and all the Hotel lacks atmosphere, even a Road Lodge has more. The staff is very friendly and perhaps not well trained. It took about 20 minutes for a drinks order at the bar. The breakfast is as basic as can be and on both mornings I had to scrape to find some mushrooms in the dish. The hotel has such a beautiful location opposite the mall and on the golf course but stay there only if you need to. A lot can be done to improve this hotel and I would start with the overall impression give by the look of the entrance and reception.

Not sure how this hotel received 4 star rating - Room substandard , no coffee/tea the 2nd day of stay in room. TV set bluring most of the chanels and aircon unit not working properly. - Food horrible. Chef (lady) very unfriendly playing with the mobile phone behind the buffet section. Reception staff / manager lack customer service knowledge. Thanks for the many other options in town. They charged me for dinner which i did not have - Rather opted to take walk to Mall to enjoy dinner.

Room Tip: Please check others 1st - not 1st choice of hotel.

While the space in not bad, the general quality of the room setup is really average. The last time I had lunch at this hotel, the service was not good and the food was really not great either. I will stay here if I have to, but will probably first see if I can get accommodation elsewhere.

The room I stayed in was large with 2 double beds. Had excellent view that looked out onto a golf course and a dip in the pool was welcome in the hot weather. However 2 minus points stand out- the air conditioner was just too loud for peaceful sleep and the dinner was absolutely unappealing so it was a blessing that one could hop across to the Mall for dinner. Breakfast was mediocre. Hotel should either do away with serving meals or drastically revamp its staff cooking skills.

Large clean rooms with friendly service. The air condition was so loud that it had to be turned off during the night to allow sleep. I'm not normally disturbed by a/c or ventilation, but this was extreme. However, even in the South African summer, the room was not too hot in the night. Excellent breakfast. The pool is small but clean. The location near the Mooiriver Mall and the restaurants there allows a good freedom of choice.

Room Tip: There is no elevator to the second floor

Stayed during the Davis Cup tie between Netherlands and RSA. Beds are old, pillows poor. Bathrooms old. The breakfast and restaurant facilities are mediocre. Fortunately a new mall Mooirivier was opened accros the road from the hotel, which has ample choice of restaurants.
