Reviewed 12 February 2006

We had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Samaras in May of 2005 after a quick trip up to see Meteora. Lamia is probably the most reasonably sized town in close proximity to Meteora assuming you do not want to actually stay at Meteora. With that being said, we were pleased with our experience there.

We arrived in Lamia without any reservations at all. My brother-in-law who was driving was getting frustrated about not being able to find much in the way of a potential hotel when we just happened to drive next to the Hotel Samaras. We went in and got two rooms for two people each at a rate of 75 euros per room for the night.

We went to our upper floor rooms and crashed for a bit after an exhausting day climbing around Meteora. The rooms were of comfortable size (probably around 200-225 sq feet) with attached bathroom and, I believe, shower/tub. Typical Western amenities including toiletries were nicely stocked. I was quite surprised to have a completely operable air conditioning unit with remote control at the side table of the bed. That is something I really appreciate as, although it was only May, the heat of the summer was already starting. The overall room was clean and comfortable with no complaints whatsoever.

The hotel is nicely located near the center of town. They have a parking area for guests which only includes a handful of spots. Luckily, we got one without a problem, although I could imagine having a big problem if the hotel were full. There is quite a bit nearby within walking distance. Literally hundreds of restaurants/tavernas/cafes within 10 minutes by foot.

Our room overlooked one of the main squares where we had evening drinks.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and was a fairly reasonable spread. Juices, coffee, hams, cheeses, breads, cereals, fruits, etc. in a self service breakfast room.

Overall, I was quite pleased with the Hotel Samaras. Although it is probably more geared toward the business traveler, it really worked well for us.

I do not have much doubt it would be a good place for virtually anybody wanting a good nights rest after Meteora! Please see attached photos of the hotel and the room view.
