beautiful accommodations showcasing the very talented artists in the area. Each room unique and a work of art itself! Service was wonderful and all staff were delightful--especially the general manager,Agustin and Max, who oversees the Estancia and the Vik. We had a great time, kayaking, horseback riding, trips into town etc.! I hope I will be able to visit again!

I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH ESTANCIA VIK!!!! All Vik hotels are absolutely amazing. The staff and management make you feel completely at home and you feel like you are part of the family when you leave. Food was absolutely amazing too! Each room was completely unique and made you feel artistic just being in them! This hotel is one of the most unique places to visit and gives you the option to relax and do nothing or set up as many great activities as you want. Estancia Vik is well worth every penny and will leave you with an experience that will last a lifetime! I am excited to plan my next trip to Jose Ignacio and return to my home away from home in Estancia Vik.

I'm not the type of person that that writes reviews of their vacations, takes pictures of their meals or thinks about following up on customer satisfaction issues, good or bad. However, my wife and I recently returned from our first exploration trip to Jose Ignacio, Uruguay where we had the pleasure of staying at the Estancia Vik as well as enjoying their beach front property, Playa Vik and I felt compelled to applaud them for our memorable experience. For us, our stay at the Estancia was exceptional, the property, overall surroundings and most importantly the incredibly friendly, attentive staff were perfect in every way. All staff members knew our names the first day and went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met on every level...they took the time to get to know us and when they learned we would be traveling on to Buenos Aires, took their personal time to prepare a list and make suggestions of things to do and see. We had wonderfully prepared meals at both properties as well as delightful experiences at the restaurants they recommend we try...don't miss Garzon! Most of our days were spent exploring Jose Ignacio and surrounding areas, our trip was purely based on exploring Uruguay as a potential second home (which we found). We are horse people, so having the opportunity to ride amazing horses across their expansive property was fantastic. The horse facilities were perfect and the stable hand "Gaston" was a true pleasure to ride with. His care and passion for his horses and barn was obvious. We also had the opportunity to play Polo for the first time with "Lolli," we enjoyed the experience so much that we ended up playing with her for three days in a row. We're heading back to Jose Ignacio in May and are planning to stay for the months of June, July and August just to experience their winter. Do not miss lazy days at the Playa Vik pool...if you are a fan of modern architecture you will be more than impressed. I could go on and on about VIK and the wonderful people of Uruguay. Best to Agustin and his staff...see you all soon. Tony Held

Room Tip: Our suite was perfect...you feel like you're staying with your best friend who happens to own and an amazing ranch property. Also, if you appreciate art, you live in it at both properties.

Yes. Estancia Vik is a luxurious hotel. Very luxurious.

Its location is outstanding. A 10min drive from Jose Ignacio, in the middle of an astonishing piece of land, criss crossed by the lagune and covered with horses and cows slowly grazing the day away. It is an absolutely beautfiful decor that truly shines at sunset. The evenings are peaceful and truly relaxing. Inside, the estancia is beautifully decorated - although some of the art on the walls is questionnable. But hey, it's art. The pool is gorgeous and there is a large game room for the odd rainy day. We also used the sauna, which is very nice, and went for a horseback ride which was extremely pleasant.

So overall, this sounds like an amazing place to stay.

Two or three things really break the spell though, unfortunately. The first thing is the food. It is good - but not amazing. Certainly not the level you'd expect from what is a self proclaimed 7* hotel. The prices though are definitely 7*. A green salad costs $20. A cheese sandwich is $15. Wow... Dinner is a set menu for $85 (that's per person, and excluding tax). So all in all, a day spent at the Estancia costs as much in food/drinks as the room price. In essence, double the price you thought you'd pay daily - that's your bill. And considering the estancia's location, it's not like you have many other options... Breakfast was also fairly poor. Quality food (the dulce de leche is to die for, and I probably ate the best eggs I ever had) but not much choice and a few missing items (they'd run out of croissants at 10:30, despite breakfast being served till 11:30, and the hotel being almost empty).

There are some touches that really ruin the aspect. A couple of broken bits and things like cheap air freshners in the breakfast room... Not really 7*.

The most annoying bit was the noise. You have to realise the estancia is located in the middle of nowhere. It is quiet, peaceful and relaxing. However, they managed to make all the rooms (at least on the ground floor) really noisy. The electrical system makes a buzzing noise that truly turns you mad. It certainly didnt let us sleep. If it wasnt for the mosquitoes, I would have slept outside, it's a lot quieter than inside. When we complained to the staff, we were either met with laughter (?!?) or total inability to do anything about it.

So overall, the Estancia is magnificient. But for this kind of price, and in a hotel that claims to be one of the most luxurious in the world, you'd expect flawlessness. You don't get it. Lots of things need to be improved. Service, food and a few elements of the building are under the standard you would rightfully expect. If you are willing to overlook these, then the Estancia is a place for you. If you are gunning for perfection, look away.

Highly recommend this lovely hotel. Very peaceful, lovely surroundings and good service. Only moan is that breakfast is rather Spartan and lunch options are relayed by staff whose English is poor. Would suggest a written menu in English and Spanish-most of the guests are English speaking-with more light options. It is very hot here and serving a meat main course is a trifle silly in my opinion.
Otherwise the rooms are large and luxurious and bathrooms ditto.

Room Tip: each room is individually designed, so it depends on one's taste. There are suites with one and two bedrooms but we stayed on the ground floor which was lovely. Looked out onto fields and a lake.
