“Charming b&b in coolest beach”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

Nice place to stay in the cool beach of Jose Ignacio. Jacuzzi in the bedroom. Nice staff, good services, free bikes to ride around. Associate the breakfast served by the pool. Needs a little extra attention to the overall maintenance.

My husband and I stayed at this charming hotel last month, and were wonderfully surprised by the hotel's genuinely nice staff. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was served just minutes after we would call for it in the morning. It was delicious and homemade - a perfect start to the day. The rooms were cozy, casual and clean and had everything you need. The hotel's mountain bikes are a wonderful way to explore the area. We highly recommend you take advantage of using them. Overall, I am a very picky traveler and was very impressed by the grounds and the hospitality! We wish we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: We stayed in the large suite on the top corner of the hotel. It had a HUGE balcony with a couch and...

Before I get started, let me say that yes, I am totally aware that price isn't really a reflection of quality in Punta Del Este and environs, its a reflection of scarcity value. That being said, at bare minimum, a hotel is a place to sleep. If you can't sleep while paying for that very service, it isn't worth anything. Period.

Good: The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is quite good. Rooms are reasonably large. Its close to the beach.

Bad: The rooms are infested with mosquitos, and the staff are disinclined to do anything about it (like keeping the doors closed.) There are so many mosquitos in the rooms that they kept us up all night and all the guests looked like they had the measels. For $600 per night, the rooms really shouldn't be infested with mosquitos. Or any other bugs, for that matter. The closet is absurdly tiny. There are no drawers. There is one tiny table, and no other surfaces. I mean none, so if you want to put anything anywhere, you're stuck with your suitcase. For $600 per night, you should get a drawer. Or even two, let's get crazy. The shower floods the bathroom, because it isn't really designed as a shower stall, its just a concrete room with a drain. There is no light in the shower, so don't try to shave your legs in there. Speaking of flooding, if it rains while you're visiting, it might rain into your room. The ceilings all leak. For $600 per night, it shouldn't be raining onto the bed. The rooms are not decorated in any way; instead, there is a plywood slab for a headboard, a plywood slab for a door, and a plywood slap supporting the sink. (Maybe this is the decor?)

Anyway, enough complaining. There is always the option to pay more elsewhere.

Room Tip: Do NOT get a room on the third floor, unless you get the one on the corner facing the sea.

This is a great hotel and decent value for the area. It is not located on the peninsula of Jose Ignacio, but off the main road between Jose Ignacio and the Lagoon. It’s about a 5-minute drive into Jose Ignacio proper. You could walk to a beach in 5-10 minutes. Rooms are very large with Jacuzzi tubs for two in the room. Rooms also feature large balconies with views of the ocean in the distance. The hotel has modern amenities, such as flat-panel TVs with Apple TV (loaded with movies and TV shows for you to choose from), and massage shower panels (but no light in the shower, which was odd). The breakfast is fantastic, including eggs, homemade bread and fruit brought to your table. There’s a pool with lounge chairs, and appeared to be mountain bikes available for use. The staff were welcoming and professional and offered to make dinner reservations for us. Rooms were clean and quiet. We enjoyed it so much, we extended our stay.

Excellent. We are from Florida and spent two nights and three days at La Viuda de Jose Ignacio in September. The hotel is very well maintained and surrounded by lush greenery with beautiful ocean views from the balconies. The service is excellent and Javier and Celia looked after us like family members. The breakfast is large and delicious (bread, jam, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, coffee, fresh juices). Dinner down the road at La Huella de Jose Ignacio was spectacular, and Javi made all the reservations for us during our stay. The pool and solarium are a quiet space to relax or sunbathe. There are 5 excellent quality GT Bicycles in the lobby that are free for guest use, and we rode along the amazing coast to the Laguna Garzón. The hotel features original artwork and each room has pillow top mattresses, flatscreen TVs, ultramodern showers with rain showers, body jets and hand shower, a large, clean Jacuzzi for two and a chair for 2 on the balcony. This a very well thought out and designed property and a magical place for a romantic visit to this gem on the coast of Maldonado. The service was outstanding. Look forward to returning soon to La Viuda de Jose Ignacio.

Room Tip: Ocean views from almost every room. A few ground floor rooms even have private pools.

We spent Christmas at La Viuda and had a wonderful vacation there.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and we felt a little bit like at home.
Rooms are spacious and light with a big tarrace and a lovely view over the ocean.
The beach right next to the hotel was quiet and relaxing, for people watching and more action the beach in Jose Ignacio is not far and we enjoyed borrowing bikes from the hotel to go into town or to explore the area.
We would definetly like to come back to this place!
