“A quiet park”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Tis is a lovely park right near the middle of. Latrobe. It is within waking distance of town and has some lovely river walks nearby too. Also just a few minutes from the ferry terminal at Devonport. Reception was very flexible with people arriving from and going to the ferry. We recommend this as a great stay and did many drives from here including Cradle Mountain.

Campground is very small, cramped, cabins are converted containers(!), noisy cars nearby ( race track?).
River walk ok. Never come here again! We have been camping literally ALL over Yasmania and this is the worst ! Shame - our last night before the ferry back to Melbourne. It would have been nice to leave on a positive note.

Thank you Garthallmand? for the opportunity to explain

I regret not being given the opportunity to explain in person at the time.
Your anonymity does not allow me to check my records and understand where you were camped within the park so I am finding that a detailed response is difficult.

There is a speedway track 3 klm from the park which meets twice a month and can be heard on a very still night but it certainly is not close by.

I have a variety of accommodation options including en suite cabins that sleep 4, 6 and 8 people, constructed of timber and classed as deluxe. My cabins are definitely not converted shipping containers.

Had you voiced your dissatisfaction with the 'cramped' sites I could have explained to you that you were using only half of the space allowed for you as each site has 2 power outlets which can be confusing.
The park area is 2 ha and the sites vary in length from 8m to 13m with ample space for manoeuvring large buses and the occasional semi trailer. The centre sites, which are drive through, give a parking space of 11.2m x 10.4m

I would be most grateful if you could return and introduce yourself and allow me to rectify your misconceptions.

we were 6 in a caravan reached very late in devonport after visited cradle mountain. We tried most of the places to stay overnight in devonport and we were lucky that we had a word with Latrobe Mersey River caravan park and they usually close by 8.30 pm but they understood our situation and not only allowed us to stay moreover give us the discount. We stayed in other caravan park but the facilities in this place was excellent, the internet connectivity was so good and free. Most of the places charge for the shower facilities but there is free and it was well maintained.
At last they were very nice and helpful. I would highly recommend this place.

Man on reception very nice and friendly. Cost for the unpowered site was reasonable. Bathrooms clean, showers great and kitchen well equipped. Also a hostel on site as well which is a great addition to have. Was such a treat arriving here after camping at one of the national parks with no showers or sinks and a smelly toilet! I also wasn't bitten by mosquitoes here! Bonus! Only a short walk to the river too which is beautiful! Highly recommend!

Thank you for your generous comments
It was a pleasure to have you join us and like many other guests you realised Latrobe makes for a good base to take day visits to North West Tasmania's attractions.
Hope to see you next time you visit Tassie

Great to have you come and stay and thank you for your comments as it gives others confidence when they are not sure of finding a good place to stay on their first trip to Tassie.
Yeah, I agree, Mackey's is a great pub.

While Gavin and the caravan park obviously get great Trip Advisor reviews, it would be good if Gavin noted prominently on the park'swebsite that it is not open in October. Might save others like us from a drive to book in.

I apoligise for creating that inconvenience for you.
I continued taking bookings whilst the park was closed from July until September and did not mention the closure for the winter in case it was misunderstood that bookings could still be made.
A detailed phone message was available and messages left were duly replied to.
I failed to consider those that would drive to the park to make a booking rather than make a phone call.
Hope to have you visit during the summer.
