“super lunch”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

Our 2nd visit since october, again went after we did the 4 mile walk from keswick to threlkeld along the old railway line.
I had steak and kidney pie, husband had gammon and pineapple. Noticing previous review I must admit there were plenty of vegetable for us we did leave some, and both had tasty, reasonably priced meals. Service was quick and efficient considering the establishment was full, waiting staff as friendly as ever.

“Our Favourite Eating Place in the Lakes!”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

Stayed for three nights and as usual were made to feel really welcome. The food is the best in the Lakes as far as we are concerned, and the prices are comparable if not better than anywhere else. The fish and chips are definitely worthy of a try out, come in a big frying basket, also had the fillet steak...brilliant, and chicken wrapped in ham and stuffed with gruyere cheese I think...gorgeous! Great ales and a good wine selection as well, all reasonably priced.Best booked as it seems to ALWAYS be busy. We were there midweek in March and it was packjed every night! Great place!

“Absolutely Fabulous”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

My partner & I booked to stay here for 4 days/nights. We had an absolutely fantastic time. We stayed in the cottage next door to the pub, and it was lovely. Centrally heated, our own private kitchen, lounge etc. It was a lovely break. We purely by chance, booked when the pub had a special offer on, which included a 2 course evening meal, and full cooked english breakfast in the price. The food was out of this world. My partner is a bit of a fussy eater, and nothing was too much trouble for them, they adjusted the meals to accommodate his 'plain food' preferences. It was absolutely wonderful. Real Ales (for my partner) & a good selection of Red Wines for me, although I have to admit, their Rioja was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were always friendly, helpful and chatty. We are definitely going to be booking to go again soon, and will definitely book for Valentines Day again. Thank you Sue & Ian, and a BIG thank you to your lovely staff.
