We needed a lunch stop and decided to drive through Phrae instead of stopping on the highway. We were just about to give up when we drive past the Gingerbread House Gallery.
We didn't see a menu but there were bowls of noodles being lined up which was just what our boys wanted. The only choice was the type of noodles! The noodles were served in a Thai broth which might not be to everybodies liking. It didn't look particularly great but was very tasty.
All sorts of hot and iced teas and coffees were available as well as soft drinks and water. There were also good clean toilets available.
What really made the place was the service and homely feel. We were made to feel very welcome and were served as if we were guests in somebody else's home.
There is a little gift shop selling clothing and bags as well as soaps and books. Upstairs has the gallery.
Whilst we were there there was a 50year old VW Beatle parked outside which the owner has had for 15years! It was in beautiful condition and our boys were very pleased when she offered to show it to them.
The owners showed us a map of the town and pointed out a couple of buildings that we should visit. We drove out of town, back to the highway, past these buildings and were very pleased we had come off the main road for a break.
