“Makes more sense to stay in Dingle”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

I am very surprised by all the "excellent" reviews of this hotel. While it's not terrible, it's very unremarkable. The receptionist had to be tracked down each time we needed assistance. The room, while large, was musty smelling and had extremely outdated furniture - we actually pitied this poor little hotel because it looked like they were trying to make it successful but it was just a little sad. It felt like an old college dorm. The small amenities - coffee/tea in the room, toiletries, etc were so substandard they would have been better off without them. The same goes for the breakfast. One look at the less-than-clean dining room, the flies buzzing around, and the total absence of other guests in the height of tourist season, and we decided to have just the cold breakfast and leave asap. There is not much to see or do in Ballyferriter - we would have been better off staying in Dingle on our way around the peninsula.

Dear Guest,

First of all, we thank you for the time you took in writing a review concerning your stay at Ceann Sibeal Hotel. We always look for tips on how we can improve our service and your review has been most helpful.
The hotel was newly built in 2004 and furniture and decor are indeed meant to reflect an old style. The location is very close to Dingle, however, we are in a remote area and appeal more to guests who chose to be in the countryside, near nature and beaches and who are interested in local heritage.
The last week of August is also traditionally a quiet week and, unfortunately, it is economically not sustainable to have extra staff on during this period. With the hotel being rather small, most of our skilled staff is therefore multi-tasking. We regret if this was of any inconvenience to you.
As we are unsure which way you booked with us, we would like to know if you felt in any way mislead about the character and location when booking, so that we can improve or rectify the description of the premises.
Thank you and kind regards

We were a group of golfers that decided to stay in the hotel at the last minute on a Saturday night after playing a round at the nearby Ceann Sibeal golf course. We arrived at the hotel at approx 8pm and received a very friendly reception. The rooms were very impressive and suprisingly spacious. The receptionst was very helpful in arranging a taxi to Dingle for us.As it happened in rushing out the door the following morning I left several shirts hanging in a wardrobe in the room.I did not notice this until a week later. When I phoned the hotel Helenna informed me that they had recovered my clothes and would post them to me the following day.All I can say is that she was true to her word.Excellent service in this rural hotel in what must be described as 1 of the most beautiful parts of the world.

the Pub/Lounge attached to this hotel was a late evening stop as we made our way around the Slea Head loop tour back to Dingle. We stopped, took a peek inside and definitely decided to stay. The wood interior of the place was warm and inviting. The food was excellent (stew and other specials provided something for everyone). The bar was beautiful and exactly what we try to replicate in the states. We arrived here about 8:30pm on a weeknight and were worried they were about to close but several people came in after us. We don't smoke anymore but loved the old style cigarette machine!

This place wouldn't come up in trip advisor as a restaurant, so here we are. The haddock tempura is fresh, fresh, fresh with light batter, and we know our fish and are picky fish eaters. Salad very fresh, too. One of us had the leek and potato soup, liked it so much she ordered a second bowl! Good Guinness pint, another of us had the roast chicken with veggies, cleaned his plate! Service is lovely and friendly, old Irish charm but modern. The pub is spacious, you won't feel crowded at all. We called tonight 15 minutes after their posted close time, and they said they'd wait for us for another ten minutes so we could eat. We didn't stay here, but from what I could see of the lobby, bathrooms and pub, it's probably very nice, too. Great location on Main Street in Ballyferriter, minutes from Beal Ban, Dun an Or, DuQuinn, etc.

Excellent breakfast, quiet nights, beautiful bar and restaurant. What's not to like if you are willing to be 12 miles from Dingle? The desk clerk was exceedingly helpful. The wireless access lobby was big enough to hold eight persons getting their internet fix for the day.

Had a very happy 2 nights break here at Ceann Sibeal Hotel. We had bed and breakfast and evening meals. The food was excellent, there was a good selection on the menu.
We received a lovely welcome, the staff were very friendly and informative. Its a scenic and worth while drive from Dingle along the coast road to Ballyferriter. There is another road to Dingle only 7K. It's a great location for visiting the Blasket Islands - except the ferry wasn't running the day we wanted to go. Its also possible to go to the Blaskets from Ventry or Dingle.

Room Tip: Second floor with a sea view.

We tried to stay in Dingle, but couldn't get a room, so we opted for this, found in Rick Steve's book. When we realized it was over 12 miles away, we regretted our on line confirmation. However, upon arriving, Rachel made us feel like her long-awaited best friends. She was amazing. Our room was on the top floor with two fabulous windows that opened out onto the roof line. We had a panoramic view of the end of the peninsula. Rachel had recommendations for dinner, as well as other things to do. We even tried to stay another night, but sadly, they were full.

The outside looks like an Old West Saloon, but the inside is warm, friendly, new and inviting. The rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms. It was a wonderful change from the B&Bs around this beautiful area of Ireland.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a view room and try to get the front top floor. (3rd)
