Have been to Crutches on a number of occasions-new years eve-holidays-My birthday party with
50 friends for the weekend in 2009 and my wife's birthday in 2012 with 50 guest.
We travel around 200 miles to get there as do the majority of our friends' it is without doubt one of the best hotels in the world it is unique.
Ron is as mad has a box of frogs!!!!off the wall, but very very hospitable and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
Food be it breakfast or dinner is good.....one of Ireland's hidden gems and great place for a bit
of craic!!

I too attended for a wedding and that would have been special wherever we had stayed but being at Crutches made it even more so. Our room was tidy, clean and warm, the beds were comfortable and the rate we were offered was reasonable. The owners are hospitable and the service Ron and the rest of the staff provided was excellent throughout our stay. The food was divine - tasty and freshly prepared for a wedding of 60+ guests is no mean feat! Our party practically took over the hotel, and it felt like home for the 3 days we were there. Non-residents were equally welcomed.
Highlights: Breakfast went on for as long as the hungover guests required it to, we were left to our own devices, given access to kitchen and bar and helped ourselves, relaxed in the reception/lounge all day after the wedding with a constant supply of tea and coffee, the beach a very short drive away, the location, the views, the peace an quiet.
Lowlights: Its true parts of the hotel are a bit run down and occasionally there are bits and pieces in corridors and corners waiting to find a home.

If you want a typical hotel experience, this isn't for you. If you don't mind quirky, and want to return home charmed and with stories to tell, then don't hesitate.

Stayed here for 3 nights last week, my friends were getting married and all 22 rooms were taken by some of the wedding party - the other ones not so lucky to stay here found nearby accomodation. It's very different but as soon as we walked in it felt like home, Ron is fabulous, the wedding reception dinner was yummy and Ron was there when we needed ie breakfast - i was hungover from the wedding on Saturday night and woke up at 11.30am and still got a full Irish brekkie! I would definately go back in a heartbeat. Yopu can see the Ocean from the hotel and it's a short walk down to the long sandy beach, people are friendly in the locale and Tomasins pub nearby served up great tasty local fish. All in all if you're expecting to be waited on hand and foot it's not the place for you, but if you're chilled out and happy to go with the flow...get yourself a booking!!!

Dreadful hotel, rooms felt damp, ensuites were not clean. Dampness openly seen on upstairs walls. Old curtins thrown across bannisters upstairs! The bar had no beer!! The owner had to leave to get a keg, and there was no other staff available while he was gone. He set the fire as the bar was cold, but the smoke choked us in the bar. Smoking was still permitted in the bar, when I half comlpained about the place I was literally told to leave if I wasn't satisified. Because we were there with four other family groups I felt unable to make a big issue. The kids had a ball because they could run roit around the place, there were only two other couples in the hotel and were not there during the day. The weather was wet so we were stuck in the hotel and beside a pool table and a dart board there was no other facilities, so the kids plaid hide and seek around the house and even they were disqusted with the dirt they came across in some spots! The meal we did have was good, we had fillet steak and it was done perfect, compliments to the chef and the restuarant staff were literally apologising for the lack of jugs, bowls etc when it came to breakfast time.
Desperate place, just don't waste your money going there. Two night B&B for two adults and one child (Staying Free!) cost €240.

Although Crutch's Hillville House Hotel may look beautiful in the photos on this website and in the VisitIreland.com Tour Guide Book, DO NOT BE MISLEAD. The house is in absolute shambles (possibly the Irish House of Usher). I am also severely disappointed that Lonely Planet (a usually trusted source) called it "eccentric." Yes, it is "eccentric" if you note the piles of garbage in the hallway (including a used razor blade), the deserted eastern wing, the junkyard out front and the monstrous rotting wall in the lounge. "Creepy" and "decrepit" may be more apt descriptors.

A diamond in disguise, that's what Crutches is. From the moment we arrived we receceived the royal treatment from Ron and his staff. Ron's unique and individual style makes staying there more than pleasurable. In fact ,it is difficult to describe as you have to experience first hand to truely understand the beauty of this hidden treasure.
Breakfast was a meal in itself to look forward too, it surely set you up for the day and with three children in tow pleasing them was a task the staff handled with ease. They just got it so right. Evening dinner was a banquet, so fresh so good. Relaxing in the lounge after a long day was bliss. Falling into the four posterbed completed a perfect day. The location of this jewel was central to the most idylic beach and lots of other locations on it's doorstep. This is not a place to be missed. If I am ever to be missing, here is where I can be found. I am impatient to get back there again it is the best tonic you can buy and very reasonable.

I recently hosted a party in Crutches Hotel and what a fantastic night it was. Ron and all the staff went out of their way to look after everybody so well. The food served was delicious and the atmosphere was brilliant. Crutches has such a relaxing atmosphere, that it immerses you the minute you arrive. If you are looking for a place to switch off, then this is it. Situated in a beautiful rural location, right across from Atlantic, it's a heavenly retreat. I have stayed there frequently and it's the kind of place you would keep returning to. Ron makes everybody feel so at home as do all the staff. The food is delicious, the freshest produce cooked to order as is the breakfast in the morning.
My friends who travelled quite a distance, were all raving about it and are promising to return again. Thanks to Ron and staff for a brilliant night.
