As some of you might know - Bonn is not Germanys hottest spot for good hotels - mainly dominated by "Mom & Pop" hotels with poor quality, no investment over years and high price. This place - hotel “Hangelar” - is no exception – at a “deal” fee of 89,- EUR/ night incl. breakfast – which is 50,- EUR to high for the service provided.

Building & Surroundings: Arriving at 20.00 hours at night means getting part of the "Parkplatz War" with the neighbors as the very small hotel parking area was taken. I managed to park. And saw the hotel - lost in a suburb living environment build up by small houses, directly at a major "interstate" road (Bundesstrasse) and hosted in a 80ies year building which shows clear signs of old re-making and re-building. Non in recent years.

Service Experience: Clear und understandable explanations given by a drill sergant” type of receptionist. Might be an experience for some of you.

Room: Cold, window open – regarding the winter season and the -5 degrees C outside – a challenge. Of course, as we had 20.10 hours in the meantime – so the heating was turned down for the night(!) same like hot water in the Bathroom

Breakfast: ALDI (which is a famous German food & beverage value retailer) delights. Espresso only on extra fee.

Other: Possibility to use a professional fitness center in town – few minutes wlak away – no idea if free of charge.

Positive: Just two minutes drive away from the A59 Autobahn – but watch the time as you will get into traffic jam each working day between 07:30 and 19.00.

Room Tip: None - go to Cologne instead

Just stayed there for one night. Hotel looks interesting from the outside but inside needs a makeover. I had a room on second floor, staircase and hall was quite narrow and not so easy to navigate through with suitcase. No lift! Reception was friendly but didn't point out that I would need Inernet passord to use free WLAN in room so I had to go back to reception when I found the info in my room. Breakfast was an average bf buffet. Room was clean and quiet. Parking was full and I had to park on the street which was possible but not as safe. wouldn't want to stay there longer and would choose another place next time.

clearly a pleasant experience, friendly staff, sizeable breakfast buffet, clean rooms, peaceful location, economical for the facilities, parking is free for residents and there is ample space, quiet and peaceful neighborhood is the highlight and a lot of eateries are close by

I picked this hotel based on the previous positive reviews and will be more cautious in future. The hotel was clean, service was fine. Not a huge amount of service was required for one night, so not really an issue.

The hotel supposedly offered free wifi in the rooms, however the password did not work.

There was no English version of the website, so I had to make the booking using an online translation tool. Perhaps they don't have many English speaking customers, but with FIT "close by" (45-60 minute walk) perhaps it would be recommended. The TV had no English speaking channels. Again, perhaps they don't have enough of a demand, but even a token news channel would have been nice.

The biggest issue was the lack of sleep from (A) very noisy traffic from a main road close to the back of the hotel, and (B) the fact that the room had no curtains. There was material that gave the illusion of being a pair of curtains, but when you pulled them to close them they were only a few inches wide. So the sun woke me earlier than I wanted. I've never seen anything quite like those curtains!

All in all below average on things that are simple to get right.

Although I wasn't very sure when I first saw the hotel from the outside, it turned out to be a nice little hotel. Breakfast and service were very good. There is free internet in the "smoking" lounge (a little sign there shows the current password). If you can get a room close enough to there you can also use this free internet from your room.
