I have stayed here twice on work related visits and have found the rooms extremely comfortable, the breakfasts are fabulous, the restaurant at the winery is excellent, and the staff are super helpful and friendly. The only downside is the lack of internet access in the rooms, and limited choice of TV - the only english language station was CNN. I couldn't hear the autobahn and indeed slept extremely well. Be careful to keep the windows closed to avoid mosquitos. The rooms are dated but in fitting with the age of the building - they have everything you need.

The Schloss Hotel Kempinski is a beautiful german style hotel. The elegant, not too modern style will provide you the basis for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was good. Dinner was okay. The location is good an the surrounding park gives a relaxing feeling to the place. Unfortunately, one can hear the Autobahn close by.

Our arrival at the Schloss for the weekend was greeted by a member of staff who immediately took our suitcase to reception and offered to park our car. His colleague in reception had our key and the registration form ready for us to fill in. He then took our case and showed us to our room. Although we had planned to explore an alternative venue for lunch, we were convinced by the staff that they could offer us an enjoyable light lunch (we had already made dinner reservations at an alternative restaurant) on their large sunny terrace overlooking the Rhein. We were NOT disappointed - food and service was very good!

We visited the spa on two different occasions in the early evening and found the sauna and pool to be well appointed with plenty of fresh towels and available chaises longues, as well as being clean and well laid out.

We had a wonderful weekend and found all the staff that we came into contact with courteous and helpful. Despite the fact that we visited in early Spring before the trees and gardens were in full bloom, the outdoor areas were very well maintained. We were not sure what to expect at this time of year, but the decor, layout, and maintenance was a clear reflection of a hotel of this calibre. In addition, the area has so much to offer! We will definitely visit again in the future.

Room Tip: Some third floor rooms seem to be/have been previously smoking rooms.

How do you arrive at a 5 star hotel and have to unpack your 5 cases yourself with zero help......then put your cases in reception, go park your car and come back to find they haven't even moved your cases? Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms clean and reasonably maintained but very dated - shower (complete with gold coloured taps) was dismal. Products very poor quality. Air con virtually non-existent. Service generally lacking - very few staff and those that were there seemed only focused on Corp events. Spa is not a spa - very old sauna and pool area and a room that looks like a converted office which is used for massages (no spa staff - they call someone to come to the hotel if you want a treatment). Only highlight was the courtyard restaurant which is independently run. Feels like a hotel nearing it's end.....

This castle is simply beautiful, we loved it.
We stayed in a suite, and it was huge, really big, even with 2 bathrooms!!!, the deco is very elegant and classy, it is an old building and the renovation has been done accordingly, very elegant and with lots of golden details.
The breakfast was also quite good, not the biggest buffet we've ever had, but good enough.
The gardens are beautiful and if you stay in this hotel, I recommend you to spend some time outside, if the weather permits.
I didnt use the spa or pool, but my husband did and he said it was really nice and elegant with stucco all over the ceiling, so they kept some of the original features of the building, but the sauna and pool are new and perfect.
The lobby is also elegant and has huge chandeliers all over, it is a great area to relax and have a drink in the evening or to have a coffee and read a book during the day.
We had dinner at the restaurant Princess of Erbach, it is an expensive restaurant, the food was quite good, but I found it overpriced. There wasnt a big variety and you had to choose between the few options.
The area surrounding the hotel is known for their wine production, specially white wine, so you can go in a wine tasting tour and enjoy some really good Riesling. In fact, the hotel has also a little shop where you can taste and buy wine.
Most of the guests were older couples, we are both 36 years old, and the average guest was around 55, so, if you dont have any problems with that, this is a great place to stay.
If you are looking for a romantic weekend with relaxation and wine, this is the right place.

Room Tip: call the hotel directly, they have good offers

This is not like a real 5 Star Kempinski – it might just rate 4 Stars.

The property is not in the best of condition. The exterior of the building needs a clean-up and the gardens are very poor – the car park is their best external feature. Whilst the foyer is looked after, the rooms are old – reminding me of the Romanian hotels. The rooms do not have kettles/beverage trays, or irons and ironing boards. Room service is charged for. Internet is an extra and is expensive. The only English TV channel is CNN.

Staff are not in abundance. Foyer staff are young and appear inexperienced, although eager to please. There are no porters or doormen.

Food is ‘nouvelle cuisine’ – so you get small portions surrounded by a swirl or drizzle of sauce. It is also not cheap – for example breakfast is 25 Euro per person. Service is average, not too many staff, again all young but eager to please.

The area is very beautiful – and tranquil. There are not too many tourist spots so it’s easy to get around. Erbach is a very quiet village – but typical southern German architecture and everything is so well maintained.

If you want quiet to relax – this is it. But take plenty of books.

While in the Rheingau area check these out:-

Frankfurt – see the city’s famous skyline and the international atmosphere. To try the regional taste have a bite of famous food specialities like “Tafelspitz mit grüner Soße” (pork with special sauce of seven herbs from the region) or “Handkäs’ mit Musik” (sour milk cheese with onions, served with bread) and do not miss out on having an ‘Ebbelwoi’ (sort of cider, drunk pure, with soda or lemonade) with it.

Schloss Johannisberg – a wonderful castle/winery overlooking the Rhine.

Kloster Eberbach - Former Monastery on top of the hill

Eltville - The City of Roses and Gutenberg

Mainz - The City of Gutenberg

Wiesbaden – capital of the federal state 'Hessia'

Room Tip: Upper rooms overlooking the gardens are best

Arranged for airport pickup but no one there when I arrived.  Called the hotel & they asked me to meet my driver at the mtg point, so found a guy with a sign "park taxi" but not a hotel sign.    I approached him & he said he was off to schloss Hotel so I started following him, called the hotel to check if this was the guy, they said the driver should have a hotel sign w/ my name.  I then ask the driver for my name, he showed me a sms w/my name, so mystery solved easily but not a good way to start out.

30 min later, at arrival, there was no doorman or bellboy, though check in at the reception was fast enough.

My room was on the 2nd floor looking out at vineyards, the Rhine river and highway on the left side, another road plus railroad on the right side, and the parking lot in the middle

was here for only one night, thought it would be a nice transit hotel in wine country but should have returned to Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt!! (thoughts of moving definitely surfaced despite prepaid night) The two restaurants (Wintergarten & Princess Von Erbach) were both closed due to a wedding.  The front desk suggested that I eat instead @ the Hotel Bar despite only the bar menu being offered.    I opted instead to try the 3rd restaurant Schloss Schanke that served regional cuisine, which turned out to be the highlight of the stay, I loved the atmo & the food was decent, though it was slightly painful having to get back to my room to get money as I couldn't charge the bill to my room!!

The room (212) was dusty, likely coz it was sandwiched between two roads.  The room (esp bathroom) looked like it was last renovated at least 20-30 years ago, the TV certainly was an antique, & had CNN as the only English channel.  The bathroom was not a space I'd linger in, shampoo was provided but not conditioner.   Aircon was noisy & not blowing out cold air so I slept with a window opened despite the traffic noise.

Not recommended.
