4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2012

First time at Irish Mountain. My husband and i wanted a quite and relaxing couple of days to celabrate our 30 wedding anniversary. We were very pleased . It was the perfect place to de-stress. The view from the balcony was amazing.Breakfast was great, really enjoyed it !!!! IF you want to find peace and connect with your inner spirit , this is the place. Being around all the Nature and away from a busy city life. We will make this an yearly visit for sure. Fall is our favorite time .

We were looking for a romantic weekend and also to kick back and relax. Irish Mountain Bed and Breakfast was the place to be! We had a romantic and relaxing time. Our room was very spacious, with a king size bed, your own washroom and your own private hot tub for two on your own deck. We also had a great view of Georgian Bay. The owners are absolutely lovely and very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas. Oh, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious and filling! This was our first experience for a b & b and we are very, very, glad we chosed Irish Mountain.

Room Tip: Lakeview suite has the view of Georgian Bay.

The views at this B&B are superb. The beds, linens, and pillows are all top shelf. The food was about a 5 or 6/10 compared to other B&B's I've stayed at (for example, Telegraph House in Port Stanley - 9 or 10/10 food!). The surrounding area boasts many opportunities for hiking, walking, sailing, etc. All lovely. The other guests were friendly, chatty, and fun.

However, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this B&B to all.

If you have food allergies, do not stay here (despite the notation on the website that if you have special food needs, just alert the host!).

If you have a non-Anglo name and don't wish to be interrogated with British, common-sense ethnocentrism about "where you are from", do not stay here.

If you are a same-sex couple, do not stay here.

If you appreciate a host who will actually let you answer their questions without speaking over you - again and again and again - do not stay here. Our host greeted us upon arrival not with "hello", "welcome", "how do you do?", or "My name is John".

No, we were greeted by an abrupt, "What do you eat?". This highly abrasive style of communication (if it can even be called that) was patently not a one-off or a bad day. Other guests noted that they also found our host to be easily confused by any food requests outside the vanilla-ordinary.

Sadly, our host was consistently rude and dismissive throughout our 3 day stay - yet took a very different tone with the other guests. Alas, we were the only same-sex couple in the B&B, and the difference in his comportment and tone was glaringly obvious.

For example, when he referred to my wife as "Your friend" and I gently corrected him with, "Did you mean my spouse?", he dismissed this with a wave of his hand and said abruptly, "Well, whatever you want to call it" - ironically, this was part 2 of our honeymoon. Not quite how we wanted to celebrate our recent marriage.

After revealing his discomfort with same-sex couples, our host then proceeded to scold me opaquely about how I was sitting in front of the wrong fruit bowl.

The exchange went like this:

Host: "That's not yours!".
Me (confused): "We've sat at this table every morning, John."
Host: "THAT'S not yours" (gesturing vaguely at my place setting).
Me (still confused): "What do you mean? This seat? This place setting? This coffee cup?".
Host: "Listen, it's a Monday on a holiday weekend, DON'T complicate things! THAT bowl of fruit is your friend's" (how I was supposed to know this when there were 2 place settings, and only one bowl of fruit on the table (which looked the same as every one I'd eaten in the previous 2 days).

I then made the gentle attempt to correct friend to "spouse" and, well, you already know how that turned out.

Take note, John: Grown ups don't like to be scolded, dismissed, talked over, or talked down to - particularly when they are paying for a service.

A saving grace: the polite and helpful gal who made up our rooms and served our coffee was lovely - she must have patience of a saint to work for the gentleman owner of this B&B! We will not be returning. Paying $200 / night is not unusual for a B&B, to be sure. However, $200 / night is far too much to pay for rudeness, ignorance, and condescension. We have stayed - and will stay again - in the area.

We are fans of B&B's generally speaking, and based on past experience, this one, unpleasant episode in our travels is an anomaly, not a sign of B&B experiences in general.

Our hundreds of regular guests tell us they really enjoy breakfast time at Irish Mountain. They tell us that they find John's banter to be fun and the cultural and ethnic exchange of views to be stimulating. We sincerely regret that Erin got upset.

We work very hard to try to please all of our guests and usually succeed, this is confirmed by the more than 60 TripAdvisor reviewers who have given us a 5 Star rating for service.

Unfortunately, we were unable to offer our full range of special diet menu items during Erin's stay, but now things are back to normal and we have a full selection of tempting, special diet dishes available, we have invited Erin and spouse back for a complimentary stay.

After 4 days enjoying spectacular fall colors and hiking the Bruce Trail, we feel compelled to write that Irish Mountain B&B only gets better and better. My wife and I have made it our "go to" destination at various seasons for now almost 15 years. While the Georgian Bay Triangle has very much to offer, it is the outstanding accommodation at Irish Mountain that continues to draw us back. While there is likely no better location from which to view the vista of the Bay with its Blue Mountains backdrop, it is the fact that it happens from your window, your deck, even your hot tub that makes this B&B unique. The quality of the accommodations, the very special breakfasts, the friendship and service of the hosts and their staff reflect an ongoing attention to detail second to none. We are already antisipating our next visit

views. My room was quite comfortable and provided me with a wonderful spot
to relax, unwind and just read and enjoy the fresh air and view.
Thank you.

When you're young, you face adventure impulsively, and accept you might get cuffed across the back of the head when mother wisdom needs to set you straight. But travelling life's journeys you hope to reach a point where wisdom and inspiration can comfortably coexist. Our arrival at the Irish Mountain B&B was one of those moments. Kids at camp north of the Big Smoke and we didn't want to face the fight through Friday long weekend traffic to pick them up. What's more, a birthday getaway in order. So why not skip town mid-week pick the kids up coming home? ...and why not at an inviting B&B, made better by the company, welcome, accomodation, and view. Impusive, yes, but wise as well, all wrapped up with an absolutely perfect morning of wind, waves and philosophy. Fair winds. We'll be back.

Escaped to the great Georgian Bay region with a luxurious room and a beautiful view. The hosts were charming and the room was better than we imagined. Fantastic breakfasts in a beautiful setting. We stayed in the cabin loft - wonderfully secluded with a two person hot tub on our own private deck. We would highly recommend this bed-and-breakfast to anyone
