“well worth a visit”
Reviewed 1 June 2009

The bedrooms in the Clive are in a converted barn which is what attracted us.We were initially worrried that it may be noisy as it is on a main road but they are set behind the main building. The quality, cleanliness and decor are excellent with a very good bathroom. We were in room 212 with plenty of windows which were needed with the hot weekend. We could not hear any noise from other bedrooms.,

“Fabulous food, wonderful room - we will be back!”
Reviewed 4 May 2009

We stayed at The Clive for two nights and had a thoroughly relaxing stay in a wonderful location. We ate in The Clive's restaurant on the first night, and wish we had eaten there both nights. The restaurant is perfect for a romantic night out and for groups to get together, which is a real achievement! It's nicely furnished - clean and modern. The food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, with heavy emphasis on locally produced food. Staff were knowledgeable about the food and ingredients and they knew their wines too. The service was excellent, attentive yet not obtrusive, and very efficient. Thoroughly recommended!

“Very friendly and nice food”
Reviewed 27 April 2009

My boyfriend and I had a lovely meal at The Clive. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The service was quite slow, however, that suited my boyfriend and I as we wanted to sit back and enjoy a relaxing meal which is exactly what we had.

The people serving the food were lovely, however, I will say that the bar staff were not great but luckily we only had to come in contact with them twice!! Once being when we had the wine, the young lady was difficult to understand and was a little rude. After which we then ordered a jug of water and that took about 20 minutes to come... hmmm not great but luckily the staff in the restaurant were friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable.

The food was lovely, the starters were a little expensive, £6.95 for 5 pieces of asparagus and some hollandaise sauce and my boyfriend had some ham and figs which was actually one piece of ham sliced up and a fig cut up into as many small pieces as possible. Again this was £6.95. It was very nice however and you kind of expect those prices when going to such a high quality restaurant.

The main courses were more generous and at £13.00 and £16.00 was very reasonable and were worth it. The desserts were fantastic! Very generous portions and moreish!!! After we'd had our meal we had coffee and also some lovely homemade after dinner nibbles, no charge. It was a lovely finishing touch.

The wine list is very reasonable and there was a good selection.

The seating area in the restaurant was very smart and clean. However when we went into the bar area we were surprised to see some of the seats had rips in them and looked very old and tired. It ruined the look of the bar. I think that they should consider buying some more furniture as you'd not expect to find tatty furniture in that standard of restuarant / B&B.

The overall experience was very pleasant and I would not only recommend it, but I would also go there again.

It's worth experiencing at least once!!!!

“Comfortable accommodation, excellent value and foodie heaven!”
Reviewed 21 March 2009

We stayed on a 3 nights for the price of 2 bed and breakfast deal which was tremendous value and we ended up eating in every night as the food was so delicious, well deserving its Michelin rating, we thought. The rooms were in an adjacent barn conversion: quite spacious, very comfortable and spotless. We really appreciated the wi-fi and the comfy sofa. The hotel is two or three miles outside Ludlow and we followed the directions for a delightful circular walk across the fields and over country lanes into the town and back. Just as well considering how much we were eating! For the quality of the food, we thought it really good value. In fact the house wine, a chilean red merlot at only £15 was excellent. Service was a little slow one evening, otherwise it's hard to quibble about this place.

“Great weekend”
Reviewed 2 February 2009

We stayed a weekend with two other couples and found the hotel, the service, the food and the town all delightful. Service in particular was very helpful, friendly and efficient. The rooms, in separate buildings to the main one with the restaurant and bar, were comfortable, quite large and well-equipped - including free, wireless broadband - pricey hotel chains please note!

Thoroughly recommended.
