The hike to Cascades Pass is a steady long, slightly up, no more than 10 % grade.... 33 switchbacks... If the weather is good, a great view at the pass from where you can go higher (Sahale Arm) and probably sit in snow in August. There is a downhill half-mile to Pelton Basin. Depending on fitness level, it can be a piece of cake to do it as a long day round-trip. Note: you have about a 40 minute dirt road drive each way from Marblemont, the point of civilization.
