Rental cars are easily available from the Guadeloupe Caraïbes Airport is 6 km (4 miles) north of Pointe-à-Pitre. There are several local and a few international (Hertz and Avis) companies with service desks at the airport. Due to problems (mechanical and the like) by visitors who have rented from local agencies, it is a good idea to rent from one of the well-known international companies for additional peace of mind. Driving across the island is relatively straight forward, as in France, driving is on the right.

Taxis are also pretty easy to come by across the island as well. However, not all either (a) have a meter, or (b) if they do have a meter, there's a good chance it doesn't work. If there isn't a working meter in the taxi, be sure to agree on a fare before setting off. A taxi ride from the airport to Gosier (location of many hotels) will cost about 20 Euro; a ride to Pointe-a-Pitre will likely set you back about 15 Euro.
