Public transportation on Tortola is very limited, so if you do not provide your own transportation, taxi services are the best bet, especially within city limits. There are a few taxi stands scattered throughout Road Town and one at Beef Island Airport, but you can also reserve one by calling the Quality Taxi Association (284-494-8397), Nanny Cay Taxi Association (284-494-0550) or the Waterfront Taxi Stand (284-494-6362), all of which are based in the Road Town region. The airport is serviced by the Beef Island Taxi Association (284-495-1982).
Cars can be rented from agencies such as Avis Rent-A-Car (284-494-3322), Hertz Car Rental (284-494-6228), Courtesy Car Rentals (284-494-6443), International Car Rentals (284-494-2516) or WB Auto Rental (284-495-4086). Reserved cars can be picked up either from the airport or after you get into Road Town, and bicycles or scooters can be rented from sports equipment rental places around the town such as Last Stop Sports. To rent a car, you must be at least 25 years old and hold a BVI driving license, which can be obtained by showing your driver’s license from home. Remember to drive on the left side of the road. Bicycles and scooters can also be rented from sports equipment stores.
If you are interested mainly in a scenic tour of Road Town and the surrounding area, consider an aerial tour by one of the island’s charter plane companies, such as Island Helicopters (284-495-2538) or Island Wings (284-495-2002).
